Swedish tax authorities have informed a couple in Stockholm that they may not keep the name Elvis for their five-month old daughter.
(Excerpt) Read more at thelocal.se ...
They told the parents: “Don’t Be Cruel” to your daughter.
The tax authority has “Suspicious Minds.”
I don’t understand why any parent would want to name a girl, “Elvis”. Stupid parents. Most kids don’t want to be a joke.
LOl1
Maybe the parents have in mind a gender change down the road ... you never know today ... .
Not that I like the name they chose, but doesn’t Sweden pride itself on its liberalism? Freedom of expression and all that?
Makes me wanna cue up “Monster Mash.” :-)
There is a long standing tradition of parents giving girls boys’ names, or at least a boy’s nickname (Sam for Samantha). The book “Beyond Jason and Jennifer” (1st ed.) chronicles various names that were boy names that almsot stopped being boy’s names when girls started getting them:
(off the top of my head)
Ashley
Leslie
Jan
Morgan
Alex was in danger for a while, but the trend ended in time.
The problem with “Elvis” is that the name is too closely associated with one man. Of course, that man being Los Angeles Rams running back Elvis Peacock, a 1st round pick in the 70’s who immediately injured himself in the off-seaason and never amounted to much as a running back.
Socialism: Coming to an American city near you if Obama is elected....
If the parents want to name their kid something, that is THEIR business
that being said, WTF are they smoking, naming a girl that?????
The TAX AUTHORITY told them??? The tax authority has dominion over the people’s freedom to name their children?
Remember folks, Europe is on the leding edge of societal “development” which is likely to come our way sooner or later...
I just feel sorry for the girl.
Yeah, the Obomination pulled it off!
THe media gave us the Obomination and McPain.
That “tradition” has picked up in recent years.
It’s all part of the gender blending.
How about Fatima?
That’s a common Swedish girl’s name now. . .
Moon Unit, Dweezil, Ahmet, and Diva.
“You-Named-Baby-WHAT?!” Ping.
I think it’s significant that parents are giving girls boys names and not the other way around. It would take a whole book to explore all the ramifications.
I don’t know, if the government could ban Liquishia, I think it might be a good thing.
And we wouldn’t have to worry about racism, we would just staff the department with working class blacks. The secretaries I used to work with would go off whenever they heard any of the more creative names.
I agree. They should name the child "Che" or "Mao."
It is here and growing whether Obama, Clinton, or McCain is elected. Not one of those three will do anything to stop it. On the contrary, all three will encourage it.

What do you think of Sweden's proposed wire-tapping law?

A necessary measure to keep the country safe : 42%
A senseless trampling on individual privacy rights : 49%
No opinion: 9%
That would be Elvis Costello, who sang the definitive version of "Let's Misbehave," in the movie, "DeLovely."
Are you dense? It is from one man alright, but it is from that singer....What's his name? Oh, yeah, Elvis Costello. That's it.
Well, the parents could always just name the kid ‘Metallica’. The tax authority wouldn’t have any problem with that.
Tell it to Elvis Herselvis.
They could name the girl Elvisa or Elvisetta. That would fix the problem.
