Lieberman-Warner Debate, Senator Rohrabacher: “Do you really think the world is filled with morons?”
House.gov ^ | May 14, 2008 | Congressman Dana Rohrabacher

Posted on 06/05/2008 1:39:34 PM PDT by Straight Vermonter

I'm sorry, fellows. Do you really think the world is filled with morons? When it comes to bait and switch, used car salesmen are paragons of virtue compared to this global warming crowd. Excuse me. It's not the ``global warming'' crowd now; it's the ``climate change'' crowd. Of course, they don't want any of us to own automobiles; so what the heck. They can act like used car salesmen because there will be more jobs for them as being advocates in the climate change arena.

I'm surprised this did not get more attention. The congressman really gives it with both barrels in this speech.

It is fairly long but worth a read.

The Dems hope so. It’s the only way they’re able to exist.

My favorite motherinlaw is a big lib, but she asked to borrow my Thomas Sowell “Basic Economics” book... you can’t read and understand that book and remain liberal.

Anyway, I was explaining the state of most of the universal health care systems throughout the world and asked her if she assumed that the people running them were stupid and that it would be “done right” in America. She actually admitted that the government wouldn’t be the best entity to run such a system.

I would like to point out that before the introduction of cattle, millions upon millions of buffalo dominated the Great Plains of America. They were so thick you could not see where the herd started and where it ended. I can only assume that the anti-meat, manmade global warming crowd must believe that buffalo farts have more socially redeeming value than the same flatulence emitted by cattle.

Damn! Right between the eyes!

What an excellent article! I particularly liked what Rohrabacker said about Algore. As part of my effort to assist in building a “farm club” of congressmen who can become a conservative force in the future, I’m sending him a donation to his re-election campaign.

Thanks for the thread, Straight Vermonter.

This is an excellent speech -- very well written & substantive. (Not that the last point matters in the era of Obamamania.)

One quibble: there are twenty odd populations of polar bears (not "species").

And, unfortunately, the world is filled with morons -- or, at least it has an abundance of them.

This is a great line

"I would like to point out that before the introduction of cattle, millions upon millions of buffalo dominated the Great Plains of America. They were so thick you could not see where the herd started and where it ended. I can only assume that the anti-meat, manmade global warming crowd must believe that buffalo farts have more socially redeeming value than the same flatulence emitted by cattle. Yes, this is absurd, but the deeper one looks into this global warming juggernaut, the weirder this movement becomes and the more denial is evident."

Yeah, great speech, and well thought out. If it was a typical day in the chamber, maybe 25 people were in earshot, and of that number the clerks and janitors probably have better listening skills than any of the congressman’s fellow house members.

This will get Rohrbacher a few attaboys and a pat on the back or two from his constituents, but the sad fact is the RATS have their minds made up and it will take more than logic, reason, and eloquent reasoning to defeat this crap of a bill.

History will record that the late, great U.S. of A. was destroyed by a group of incumbent politicians as millions sat idly by awaiting the next barrel of pork out of D.C.

I'm surprised this did not get more attention.

Are you really?

A few weeks ago the Oregon Institute of Science and Medicine announced that 31,000 scientists have signed their names to a petition rejecting the man-made global warming hypothesis, and it got virtually NO COVERAGE in any mainstream broadcast or publication.

The announcement of the petition was made at the National Press Club in Washington DC, no less, and still the big snooze.

“How did this guy get elected from CA? He makes waaaay too much sense.”

He’s from back in the days when Californian’s still had some sense. Following is an excerpt from Wiki on him:

“Rohrabacher served as assistant press secretary to the 1976 and 1980 presidential campaigns of Ronald Reagan.[1] From 1981 to 1988 he was one of then President Reagan’s senior speechwriters. During his tenure at the White House, Rohrabacher played a leading role in the formulation of the Reagan Doctrine. He also helped formulate President Reagan’s Economic Bill of Rights, which were a series of policy proposals President Reagan introduced in a speech at the Jefferson Memorial.”

The following amendments must be added to the Loserman/Warner bill.

Cities and towns will substantially cut their carbon emissions by eliminating Friday night high school football and all night time basket ball. If we are going to save the planet from this grave threat we are all going to have to make changes in the way we live.

No government official except the president should be allowed to fly on a private plane. The government will pay for the lowest fare coach travel for official travel only and any upgrade will be counted as an illegal corporate campaign contribution or a bribe. Air Force 1 should be replaced with a more fuel efficient small jet. All private jets should be banned from the air.

The congress must ban all expenditures of government funds on any car bought for an elected official that gets less than 40 miles per gallon. They must also make it illegal to spend tax generated, or campaign, funds on carbon based fuel of any type.

The air conditioners in all government buildings and offices will be set no lower than 85 degrees at any time. Heat will be set no higher than 62 degrees at any time.

These common sense actions will show leadership by our government officials and show the country they are serious about global warming. The problem is so grave our leaders must set the example.

Also they should demand that Obama and McCain set the example by giving up their private planes and Suburbans while on the campaign trail. They should fly commercially and drive themselves in Hugos, or the equivalent, when traveling on the ground. If they refuse, they should face questions and demonstrations everywhere they go about why they aren’t doing their part to stop this global catastrophe.

Why would a speech made by a congressman to an empty room, televised to a microscopic cable audience, need to be excerpted???

We need a danged President that could deliver something like this at Prime Time on all networks!!!

A few days later, the report touted by the Senator was found to have been based on faulty data, data collected by one so-called researcher flying a single-engine Piper Cub with limited technology and not much expertise. Senator Gore was demanding emergency shutdowns of factories and manufacturing plants in the Northeast.

What a fat stupid idiot.

Global warming would reduce the number of hurricanes in the Atlantic.... Rohrabacher quoting a scientist on this.

Al Gore fired Dept. of Energy SEC in 1993, because the SEC stated he was "open-minded" re the case for global warming. Ruh-roh.

There are more polar bears now! [Hmmm....]

Car salesmen, by the way, are paragons of virtue compared to this global warming crowd. :):)

(Love the irony and sarcasm in his delivery.)

Stories about massive breaks in polar ice caps are fake, created with special effects using styrofoam.

First time Rohrabacher met Gore was when Al barged into a Congressional committee meeting and demanded that Pres. George H.W. Bush declare a "state of ozone emergency!!" [ROFLMBO]

This is a marvelous speech, but no major leader with the guts to deliver it. Too bad.

He mentions the left wing BS picture the China Syndrome. I asked some liberals at the time the picture was popular, what was the China Syndrome, they told me that if a nuke plant melted down the core would burn through the earth and melt down into china. I pointed out that if the core reached the center of the earth then gravity would be up from there and that the core of the nuke would not melt down because from the center all directions were up. They screamed and shouted and finally told me to just shut up, they didn’t want to hear it. Such is the liberal mind.
