Senate to Skip Debate on Climate Tax and Vote on Final Passage!
EagleForum.org ^

Posted on 06/05/2008 4:56:21 PM PDT by Man50D

Call your Senators and Urge them to Vote NO on S. 3036!

After promising to allow an open and lengthy debate on America's Climate Security Act (S. 3036), Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) filed cloture to proceed to final passage, allowing NO AMENDMENTS and only ONE DAY for debate of a massive energy tax increase on American consumers. The Senate will vote on cloture tomorrow, Friday morning, June 6th!

The latest word is that Senator Reid is actively working to gain over 50 votes for cloture. We cannot allow this many Senators to vote YES. Environmental groups will spin this as a victory. We need your calls to get your Senators' phones ringing off the hook in opposition to this bill!

This chart, constructed by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, illustrates the massive increase in bureaucracy as mandated by an amendment which was offered by Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA). The amendment contains over 300 new regulations and mandates.

If this bill passes, not only will gas prices increase by at least $0.53 per gallon, jobs will be lost all over the country, with the South being hit the hardest. This chart, constructed by the Heritage Foundation, details the economic effects this bill will have on each geographic region of the U.S.

The Lieberman-Warner-Boxer cap-and-trade bill certainly proves that green is the new "red." It aims to deliberately cripple the American capitalist system and destroy our economy as we know it!

The Senate will vote on the cloture motion to proceed to final passage tomorrow morning, June 6th! Call your Senators' Capitol Hill offices now and tell them to vote NO on the Lieberman-Warner-Boxer bill today!

There’s no way Bush would sign this IMO. I think its great they are giddy with excitement and sending these bills through now, before the election.

I agree. Passing junk like this gives the GOP a better chance in Nov.

maybe it’ll open a few people’s eyes about what things could be like.

Found this one in the rules:

EPA shall exclude from emission compliance petroleum based liquid fuel imported from a NAFTA country that has enacted
GHG emission reductions.

ie none of this bull applies to Canadian or Mexican oil.

I strongly disagree. When November comes, it is only the fact that Republicans were on board that is remembered, as in 2006.

This is the first attempt at this bill. Chances are, it will not pass this time and will be vetoed if sent to President Bush. However, it will test the opposition, see where the roadblocks are and give the libs something to shoot at. If they can get enough votes to pass this the next time, both Presidential contenders will allow if elected President.
Our only hope is with Congressional Conservative Republicans and getting more elected.

Republicans are on board where? The Dims control Congress.

They did acknowledge this bill would raise gas prices but said it they had some concessions for consumer relief in it.

Why shouldn't they vote without debate? It's only 7 TRILLION out of the economy for no good reason, in the middle of an energy crisis, war, and economic slowdown.

Friends, this is exactly what you will get all year long with a dem prez and congress. I live in NJ, and they just keep doing stuff that makes no sense at all and they just love doing it.

Tell them to vote yes. Don’t tell them to vote no. The faster their plans are allowed to destroy the U.S. economy the less painful it will be in the long run.

The only thing voters seemed to remember about amnesty before 2006 was that some Republicans were for it (tainting the brand.) The fact that Democrats were for it did not seem to matter.

The word ‘auction’ appears more than 30 times on the chamber of commerce chart. So where is the trade part? It sounds like the govt is in firm control of allocation rather than letting free markets work. Recipe for disaster.

Alexander seems to me to have the right idea on energy policy—a new Manhattan Project, he calls it.

More nuclear. Less nonsense. Sounds good to me.

Corker is opposed to this, but he seems a lot more open to cap-and-trade than I’d like to see.

They don’t have the votes. Reid is hoping for more than 50, so he can claim he had “a majority to save the planet”, but that the Republicans hate the world and want to destroy it.

I also am guessing that they found out there were a lot of good Republican amendments that were going to make democrats very nervous, and a few that might pass, so they couldn’t very well let THOSE come up for a vote.

There was also an interesting fight over some judicial nominees, which I think ended up with Reid deciding to cancel a vote on some department head. Reid is like a petulant little boy who doesn’t get his way and stands in the middle of the room with his eyes closed holding his breath and jumping up and down.

Except that Reid controls the second-most powerful body in the world.

If the Republicans can't convince a solid majority of voting Americans that this bill is garbage and thus hang it around the necks of democrats as tax and spenders who want higher gas and heating oil prices then there is little sense in ever again supporting the Republican Party.

We'll have to find something else to do.

It was always to be a market-place solution within the government guidelines for reduction.

McCain's plan isn't as drastic as the Dims, but it will still hurt.

John McCain Proposes A Cap-And-Trade System That Would Set Limits On Greenhouse Gas Emissions While Encouraging The Development Of Low-Cost Compliance Options. A climate cap-and-trade mechanism would set a limit on greenhouse gas emissions and allow entities to buy and sell rights to emit, similar to the successful acid rain trading program of the early 1990s. The key feature of this mechanism is that it allows the market to decide and encourage the lowest-cost compliance options.

Here.

When McCain says he doesn't know much about economics, he really means it.

Called my harebrained Senators, Biden and Carper, twice this week on it.

McConnell at least showed some b@lls yesterday and made the clerks read the entire bill—took about eight hours.

They recieved the bill yesterday at 11:30 am, and were being asked to vote on it at 11:00 am.

McConnell took the floor and basically told Harry Reid, that since Reid reneged on the voting of judges deal, he could forget it on the Climate Bill.

We may need to revise the Constitution and just get rid of the Senate. These clowns are beholden to no one anymore.

Except themselves.
