A pro-family activist and former presidential candidate says it is outrageous that military personnel in uniform, who use public transportation while traveling to the Pentagon, are being publically harassed by anti-war leftists.
The Air Force recently issued a security advisory, relating several incidents where military personnel have been approached by individuals expressing themselves as anti-government and shouting anti-war sentiments.
Gary Bauer, Chairman of American Values, says in one case a woman in uniform was followed as she exited a Washington, D.C., subway train and a left wing thug continued to berate her as she exited the metro station. Bauer believes there is a limit to free speech.
"Freedom of speech, like all our liberties, has limitations on it. You can't drive a car down a suburban neighborhood at eleven o'clock at night with a loudspeaker on the top of it. And this fits into that category. When somebody is in a public place, they have a right not to be harassed," Bauer explains.
In fact, Bauer notes, harassment itself is against the law. "And in this case I would call it traitorous. If I'm on a subway or at an airport and see something like this happen, I for one will take action. I think this is an intolerable thing to be happening in our country," Bauer contends.
Bauer believes these protestors are being constantly urged by left wing blogs and websites to harass the military. And he says left wing politicians who compare U.S. troops to Nazis bear responsibility, too – as do those in the media who constantly present the troops in a negative way.
PING!
yes they are eager to fight their own
but would never serve in uniform
People who do this are the devil’s spawn and not worth defending.
This is very unfortunate.
This is every where too.
PING
This sucks.
Discrimination against British soldiers in uniform to become a criminal offence (U.K.)
And I have to agree with Bauer, it IS traitorous. I certainly couldn’t stand by and do nothing either. B@stards!!
“Freedom of speech, like all our liberties, has limitations on it.”
Wrong. Leave (all) our rights alone.
However, I can tell you a left-wing group will never harass a n American Soldier if I’m in the vicinity.
DC Chapter ping.
Leftists harassing military in uniform on DC area metro.
This is outrageous!
Amen! Not on my watch!
They may harrass them but they are still “patriotic” and they still “support the troops.” Just ask them, they’ll tell ya! Scumbags!
Yes, you’re right. I LOVE this quote, I got it off a Free Republic article the other day. “War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.” John Stuart Mill, English economist and philosopher (1806-1873) Apparently still true today. Pass it on. God bless our troops!
I think I am of a similar mind. I hope I am put to the test.
I would think this would fall under citizen arrest.
I’m a small person - 5’2, 100 lbs., but I’d be right there with ya!
INFINITE GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
Me, too. And I’m big enough to not to have to. I just wish I didn’t have to work Monday through Friday, so I could ride the DC subway and stop such foolishness.
They ought to pass a law that says that a service member under verbal or physical assault while peaceably going about his business may respond by pounding the crap out of the offending party.
All I can say is...WOW!!!!
I would give her few lessons in “krav maga”( free of charge):-))
My son used that quote next to his senior pic in his HS yearbook 4 years ago. He just graduated from VMI...now a 2nd Lt. in the Army.
I’m a big guy. 6’ 5” and 255 pounds. And I would stand with you.
I just finished one of Louis L’Amour’s westerns this morning. In those days people were polite, or else they were liable to get shot.
Unfortunately, few of our children are taught anything about proper behavior, honor, or the classical virtues in public school, still less religious values, which have been outlawed by the Supreme Court.
And it shows when they grow up.
Considering the training our military receives today, I think I would be afraid to hassle anyone in uniform. Stupid is as stupid does, I guess. ;-)
Thank him for his service, please. God bless him and your family. These young people never cease to amaze me. I am so, so very proud of all of them.
“Considering the training our military receives today, I think I would be afraid to hassle anyone in uniform.”
It would do more harm to the Military and the Servicemen to start a fight in these cases, unless there was a physical threat. The fact that we are NOT hearing about these people having the Cr@p beaten out of them, says alot about the courage and dedication of these soldiers.
Thanks, I would probably need you, lol! I just absolutely LOATHE these people who do this! I’d like to put them all on a slow boat to Iran.
From the looks of your tagline, you, your son and your family deserve some thanks too! We are truly lucky to have the military that we have. Which is why stories like this one just make my blood boil.
there is more support for our troops in the country than there is these scumbags - the traitors in the Halls of Washington have tried for years to whip up another Viet Nam scenario. They have failed - as they fail to understand this is a voluntary military. BIG difference. AND they know why they are where they are and they believe in what they are doing.
My grandson recently had a short leave home from Afghanistan. He was apprehensive about what kind of reception he would encounter. He was greatly heartened - here's a little of what he experienced:
He was surprised that everywhere he went on his leave (He was was in Texas and California with parents, other grandparents and siblings, ) he continually found people at restaurants, stores, hotels, on the street - letting him know how much they appreciated him and his fellow troops.
He even got the royal treatment from other troops on the plane coming stateside when they saw his insignia: "You're BATTLE COMPANY!" = Drinks were being sent from everywhere and his hand got sore from shaking.
From Houston to Corpus to California - he was treated like royalty everywhere he went. He was blown away.
Here's a couple 'excerpts':
Last week, he and his dad went up to Austin - my grandson is an accomplished guitarist, even played a full set on stage, when he was only 12, with the famous Blues man, Phillip Walker - so he wanted to check out the Blues bands in Austin. He was having such a good time, he suggested to his dad that they stay over night.
The hotel wanted $298 for one night. My grandson said: "Well, it's not that I couldn't pay that, it's that I wouldn't pay that to sleep anywhere for one night." (He had on a BATTLE CO. tee shirt) He asked: "Do you, by chance, have a military rate?" A smile lit up the clerks face. "Just a minute," he said.
He came back with the manager, who shook his hand and ... the results were that they got a top story, $498 room, for $98.
And when he got to the airport yesterday morning for the trip back, he was taken out of line by the airlines reps - he asked: "Is there a problem?"
"Yes," they said: "You do not stand in line. Come with us."
And they put him in First Class! He was stunned. But what a wonderful "icing on the cake" moment for him as he heads back to hell.
I tear up just thinking what this all meant to him as he feared the worse before he came stateside, what with what they hear in the media.
(an aside: he has one of his guitars with him at the his firebase and is their "official" entertainer..)
Note: Just talked with one of my son's who is a long-hauler. He was driving through Colorado today and was on the highway side by side with a convoy of troops who were head and shoulders visible to motorists.
He said every vehicle going past was cheering, waving and high-fiving them. He said the soldiers were waving back and grinning ear to ear.
Eat you black hearts out, you traitorous liberals. America is with our troops.
During the bubba years the troops were told to say they were from Canada when travelling in Europe.
Pray we don’t go back to a dem CinC
What a great inspiring story maine-iac7!!
It’s time to defend our military and our country.
You are absolutely right and I thank you for pulling me and my temper back down to earth.
I remember reading in a local NYC rag about a similar incident a few years ago.
Seems that some maggot infested hippy types were harassing a young soldier in uniform on the subway. Suddenly this old geezer of WWII vintage jumped between the long hair protesters and the soldier, stuck his finger down his throat and upchucked his breakfast on the leader of the jerk squad, turned around and saluted the soldier. Great story. ;-)
Time to implement asswhooping technik no.1 on said dirtbags.
Gary, go pound sand dumbass! Do you think for a second some brave American service woman gives a rat ass about getting bawled out by some left wing nutcase? I beleive they are a little bit more thick-skinned than Mr. Pussywhipped Bauer wants to give them credit for. The left wing thugs aren't worth the time of day.
Eventhough we don't like it sometimes, Free Speech is Free for everyone.
Heart warming to be sure. Thanks for posting.
Following someone out of a train while berating them is...free speech?
Why go slow? Just strap ‘em to some rockets and fire away!
“You are absolutely right and I thank you for pulling me and my temper back down to earth.”
don’t pull it down too much. there’s nothing stopping YOU from opening a can if you see it happen :-)
Trust me, it wont. Had enough of this crap back in the VN era been waiting years to vent! ;-)
>>I would give her few lessons in krav maga<<
Exactly. Although :) I can’t say it’d be appropriate to spank idiots with big mouths, as deserving as they may be.
(Not to derail) but I am disappointed that Krav Maga instruction is hard to find in rural areas. The few classes I attended, I loved.
I recognize it's rude, tawdry, assholic, and completely devoid of respect, but yes, it is free speech, unless you can prove it's stalking or some other form of ordinance breaking.
The point I'm making is in this country people have the right to basically say whatever they want to anyone else without the fear of legally being harmed or thrown in jail for their speech. Now with that being stated, disorderly conduct comes to mind. Authorities have a broad jurisdiction to use this law for a host of unordinary circumstances.
Your post made my day ~ Thanks!
