Throughout history, warriors have been given grace to remove their dead or wounded from the battlefield..
This has not always been observed, but in most cases it has been - in the often mistaken belief that the enemy would reciprocate and allow us to do the same...
There were cases of both being true in Vietnam.
Depending on the forces or units involved — sometimes they allowed to pick their corpses off the wire or from the killing field — and sometimes we didn’t.
The NVA, particularly noted for their cruelty to POWs or the ethnics — were rarely afforded any “considerations”....
