Catholic adoption agency to close due to pro-homosexual British law

London, Jun 7, 2008 / 09:32 pm (CNA).- A Catholic adoption agency in Britain has ended its service of placing children in new homes because a new anti-discrimination law forbids the agency from turning away homosexual couples. A Minister of Parliament has said the new law “smacks of a secular attack on the Catholic Church.”

The Equality Act, which will come into effect on January 1, outlaws discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation in the provision of goods and services. Then-Prime Minister Tony Blair, who has since converted to Catholicism, wanted Catholic adoption agencies to be exempted from the rules.

Directors of the Catholic Children’s Rescue Society (CCRS), which has been in operation since 1886, say the new legislation forces them to stop recruiting, assessing, or approving couples who want to adopt children, according to the Telegraph. While other British adoption agencies have cut their ties to the Catholic Church to continue their service, the CCRS cannot do so because it is closely linked with the Diocese of Salford.

“The decision has been taken with regret by the trustees who have been fully informed all the way along,” said CCRS director Kathy Batt. "We did not want to separate from the diocese as other agencies have, though that is no criticism of them."

The CCRS will become the first adoption agency to stop offering its services. It will merge with local Catholic welfare groups to provide care homes for children, homeless shelters, and support for adoptive parents.

Jim Dobbin, a Catholic Labor Party MP in Manchester, lamented the action.

"It is a tragedy,” Dobbin said, according to the Telegraph. “There is a shortage of people willing to adopt generally in the country and there is something very wrong when some of the better and more efficient agencies feel they have to close because they can't conform to what the Government is demanding.”

"I don't think there was any need for this legislation at all. It was forced through and was all done to avoid discrimination but all it has done is to introduce discrimination against agencies that operate according to the principles of a religious faith.

"The Government will rue the day when it pursued this line of action. It smacks of a secular attack on the Catholic Church."

It thought the actions of homosexuals were between consenting adults in private.

When does the child (not an adult) get to “consent” to be brought into this relationship?

I think you’re a bit off in your view. Western civilization may ultimately cease, but civilization in the world will go on. I seriously doubt that the mohammedans will tolerate this baloney.

Again and again, the homo-activists are constantly asking us: “what harm to anyone’s marriage is done if we get married? If you’re not gay, don’t marry someone of the same sex.” All the while, they are willfully blind to the mounting evidence of what redefining an established, natural relationship does to society. When government changes the definition of marriage for them, it changes it for everyone in society as well, including those of religious convictions that reject this aberant lifestyle in both concept and in practice.

Two people the same sex are not parents! They are units, at best guardians. I am not religious but agree with the Catholics on this one. I will never accept same sex coupling as marriage. I teach my children it is not normal behavior but that it does happen.

Homosexuals have a right to other peoples’ kids, especially the boys, according to representatives of a San Francisco community of tolerant deviants. The P for pedophiles is yet in the closet of the GLBT alliance. Homosexuals have made huge enroads to child access but are not yet satiated. The drumbeat for access beats louder with every year. The Romans allowed said behavior, so why can’t the contemporary world?

Between what is going on in the EU and what is going on in Canada I can only conclude that this is the direction we are heading in in the United States.

Christians better be prepared for living under oppressive conditions that will make today’s anti-Christian environment pale by comparison.

I believe the goal is actually to eliminate Christianity and they see the lead pin as the Catholic Church. Silence the Church and you have taken the first, and most difficult, step in eliminating the influence of Christians on the social and political agenda.

Unfortunately, there are quite a few useful idiots on the right that hate the Church enough to assist the leftists, as evidenced by a small but vocal group of anti-Catholic bigots on this forum.

Once homosexuality is taken out of the closet, it's inevitable that "anti-discrimination" laws will be passed. Libertarians don't think ahead. I've had libertarians tell me that open borders would be okay if we didn't have a welfare state. But if we had open borders, we'd inevitably end up with a welfare state. Once enough third worlders flooded in here and became citizens, they'd vote in a welfare state and no one could stop them.

Likewise, once homosexual acts are recognized as a "fundamental right", and once states begin placing their endorsement on such "relationships", it's inevitable that laws will be passed forcing everyone to capitulate to homosexual demands. Is there anyplace on earth where this isn't happening? Is there a place where uncloseted homosexuals leave everyone else alone and don't try to force their agenda on others? There is no such place.

Take homosexuality out of the closet and you'll inevitably end up with a multitude of dictatorial laws forcing private citizens not to "discriminate", controlling people's speech, harassing private organizations who refuse to sanction homosexuality, and so forth. The reason liberals are pushing the homosexual agenda so hard is that it's the biggest opportunity for them to expand government power and restrict people's speech and freedom of association in decades, not to mention to marginalize people of faith and shut them out of the public sphere in a whole array of areas.

I can't disagree with anything you said. I was simply pointing out that if we took seriously our constitutional right to free association, and outlawed anti-discrimination laws, the gays could hold their Sodam and Gommorah parade 365 days a year, but they couldn't do much real damage to the social fabric. Or at least a lot less.

After all, John Adams stated that “Our constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other".

It seems that as farsighted as the founding fathers were, they intentionally or unintentionally left massive holes in the constitution with which we could destroy ourselves.

Of course there were voting restrictions back then. I believe in those days only literate white male landowners could vote. I would change that around a little bit, but it is no doubt to me that going back and limiting the vote to literate male taxpayers who can pass not only a literacy test, but a civics test, would cure socialism and the suicide of western civilization in the U.S.
