HRC Issues Sharp McCain Warning

On the same day that Barack Obama clinched the Democratic nomination for president, the Washington-based Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the nation's largest LGBT lobbying group, issued a dire warning about John McCain, the presumptive Republican nominee.

HRC vice president David Smith, in a telephone press conference, argued that the November election presents a clear choice between "an ally of our movement or someone who pushes back consistently against our interests." Only a week earlier, HRC endorsed the incumbent US senator from Maine, Susan Collins, a Republican, because of her record of support for LGBT issues. Smith emphasized that the group's objections to McCain were a wholly separate matter from his party affiliation.

McCain opposes federal laws ending workplace discrimination against LGBT employees and extending penalties for violent hate crimes to include queers. He supports Don't Ask, Don't Tell, which in practice has allowed the Armed Forces to conduct witch-hunts to ferret out gay service members. He also embraces the Defense of Marriage Act, which denies federal recognition to same-sex marriages legally entered into in states like Massachusetts and California, denying those couples, like all gay and lesbian couples in the US, access to Social Security survivor benefits.

Obama stands on the other side of each of these issues and HRC argues that McCain's posture is at sharp odds with his carefully-groomed image of moderation and his oft-repeated pledge to work cooperatively with Democrats.

And here is a counter-warning to LBGT activists:

Careful with your precedent of ruling from the bench — it’ll bite you in the butt one day.

Aren’t they synonymous? Human Rights Campaign my ass. Liberals disgust me in how they can compare the plight of Human rights to the sexual behavior of someone. People in China, North Korea, and Cuba know what human rights being denied is. The fact that in the US human rights discussion has become so trivial indicates exactly how empty our body politic has become especially from the left. How anyone can place a man beaten to near death because he spoke out against tyranny alongside a sexual deviant that wants to march their lifestyle all over the public space is beyond me. It indicates a certain level of insanity that goes beyond anything contained in the vile behavior.

May not be the best metaphor to use with this group...

Did no one notice the following...? ...a clear choice between "an ally of our movement or someone who pushes back consistently against OUR interests." Proverbial slip of the tongue, Hillary?

HRC in this case stands for Human Rights Campaign (the gay lobby), not Hillary.

“HRC Issues Sharp McCain Warning”

So his tokens of Light Loafers Lindsay and Closet Crist are not enough to offset being attacked by the queer lobby.

How odd.

“Liberals disgust me in how they can compare the plight of Human rights to the sexual behavior of someone.”

Amen.

All they have to do is shut the hell up about their sexual “preferences” and live their lives.

No one is going to put a bullet in the back of their heads for practicing their “lifestyle choices”. At least not here in the US.
