I hate cancer. I hate what it does to people and to us loved ones.

My mother is having her cancer surgery at MSK in June by the very best surgeon in the field.

Least creative spokesperson ever.

Really? I thought that his PR guy was very creative. In fact, where is the Iraqi guy, y'know the one I'm talking about. The guy who was saying "all is well, the invaders have been beaten back." While a US tank brigade is doing a "Thunder Run" right behind him.

He puts his money where his mouth is... He puts his life out there for all to see. Marriage has been good for him! His politics is just one side of his life. Could you imagine Bubba & the Mrs. doing the same with their $$$?

I'd like to second this sentiment. If more lefties were like Paul Newman this world would be a much better place. He is certainly a great example of how to use your talent, fame and fortune and he makes damn good salad dressing.

‘He was once asked why he has never cheated on Joanne Woodward in their nearly 50 years of marriage and he said “Why got out for a hamburger when you have steak at home?”’

I think he’s used that line early and often. Once my mother heard him say that, she became one of his biggest fans - and she adored Joanne as well. She always bought many of his products and cookbooks since the proceeds went to his charities, even though they were a bit pricier - the quality of his products are excellent.

I wish him and his entire family nothing but the best. They certainly are well-regarded in my neck of the woods.

As a former hockey player, I can say that nearly EVERY hockey player just loves that movie...all the stereotypes just crack us up.

As a former goalie, I have always found the Frenchy goalie, especially the part where he is describing the different penalties in an intervew, completely hilarious! To get the most humor out of this, you really have to make yourself hear the heavy French accent in the goalie:

INTERVIEW FROM “SLAPSHOT”

INTERVIEWER: Denis, I know that some in our audience don’t know the finer points of hockey. Could you tell them, for example, what is icing?

GOALIE: Well, icing happen when the puck come down, bang, you know, before the other guys, nobody there, you know. My arm go comes out, then the game stop then start up.

INTERVIEWER: I see. What is high-sticking?

GOALIE: High-sticking happen when the guy take the stick, you know, and he go like that. You don’t do that. Oh, no. Never, never.

INTERVIEWER: Why not?

GOALIE: Against the rules. You stupid when you do that, some English pig with no brains...

INTERVIEWER: Denis, what is slashing?

GOALIE: Slashing is like that, you know?

INTERVIEWER: Mm-hm. And there’s a penalty for that?

GOALIE: Yeah. And for trip also, you know.

INTERVIEWER: Oh?

GOALIE: Like that. And for hook like this. - And for spear, you know, like that.

INTERVIEWER: Mm-hm.

GOALIE: All bad. You do that, you go to the box, you know. Two minutes by yourself, and you feel shame, you know.

INTERVIEWER: Mm-hm.

GOALIE: And then you get free.

Cancer after aged 65 is not considered remarkable and by aged 80 nearly everyone has some substantial abnormal cell growth.

I gotta admit, I'm having conflict feeling sorry for these commies. No one wants to be bitter, but after a lifetime of being a pain in the butt, now that their ticket is about punched, everybody wants to me “nice”. I can't wait to hear the allocades when Miss Fonda gets her ride to hell. We'll see how nice people are here then. When her ex Ted, gets all the water rights in the farm belt and wants people to pay for “his” water, we'll see their Christian charity. Bob Redford already owns thousands of acres in the west just to keep people from cutting trees and being able to enjoy the land. These people use capitalism to push their Marxist agenda and we are supposed to be devastated when they move on to the gulag in the sky? Like I said, I'm having trouble. Whenever someone says “Kennedy” I think “Mary Jo” and justice. It's like a reflex. I don't think I can ever just forget about this stuff. I'm too old to just “get over it”. If I can ever "just move on" it will strictly be a Jesus moment. I can't seem to muster a tear on my own.

Indeed. Living to 83 is a pretty good accomplishment. And if he chain-smoked to boot, I'm impressed at his longevity.

Still, sad news. Great actor. I'd say Hud is my favorite Newman film. Everything about that films is great-acting, direction, photography.

What a great actor and he starred in many excellent, entertaining movies. As far as I know was always a gentleman and he’s made our world a better place.

Prayers for Mr. Newman and his family.

Great artistic talent, race car driver, husband and father not to leave our philanthropist

___________________________________________

Not sure about the father part. The great tragedy of his life was the overdose death of his son Scott from his first marriage. Newman didn't have much to do with the kid after the divorce and felt that this contributed to the death. This was when he started his philanthropic work, forming the Scott Newman Foundation.

Newman is a gentleman and a scholar. If he’s a leftie, he’s a leftie in the right way, personally supporting charities, donating Newman’s Own brand profits to charities, and making really good stuff under that label. Try their ginger cookies and sesame ginger salad dressing. Quality all the way for Paul.

My prayers and best wishes for his health and comfort.
