Canberra, Australia (LifeNews.com) -- Abortion advocates say the use of contraception is an excellent way to reduce the number of abortions and have demanded that taxpayers fund more contraception efforts. However, a new Australia study shows two-thirds of the women seeking abortions did so because their contraception failed.
The study included 3,400 women who went to an abortion business in Adelaide over the course of a decade.
Conducted by Flinders University professors Wendy Abigail, Charmaine Power and Ingrid Belan, it found 70 percent of the women seeking abortions used birth control.
About 36 percent of the women and their partners used condoms to prevent pregnancy, another 28 percent used hormonal methods such as the birth control pill and three percent were relying on natural family planning.
Although the study makes it appear women still become pregnant and rely on abortions when contraception fails, the authors spun the results to the Adelaide Now newspaper by saying it proved abortion isn't used as a method of birth control.
"It is often reported in the media that women are irresponsible with contraception usage and that pregnancy terminations are used as a form of contraception," they said. "The majority of women in this study used some form of contraception at the time of conception."
The study will be published in the Australian and New Zealand Journal of Public Health.
It also found a significant increase in the number of women aged 30 to 50 who are having abortions -- mirroring a trend in the United States.
While younger women more often account for abortions, older women experiencing an unplanned and unwanted pregnancy are more frequently having abortions when they are through having children.
And I bet incorrectly includes errors like skipped a pill or just failed to use the contraceptive they had with them.
I have to disagree - do you think that these women, who felt that abortion was an acceptable decision to make, would have aborted their children if they were pregnant and not using contraception? To put it in your words, I bet if they were slutting around without a pill or condom, they still would have killed the child, and possibly got pregnant more frequently, cause women and girls (especially teenage girls) will still have unprotected sex even if they don’t want to get pregnant and know it could happen anyways - they seem to have an ‘it won’t happen to me’ mentality, and I think that’s the underlying problem here.
This is, actually, completely consistent. The use of artificial contraceptive technique is 100% in line with an abortion attitude, as both totally reject the authentic view of sex as being both unitive and procreative.
All contraceptions have a failure rate. By multiplying the contraceptives used you can radically decrease the failure rate, but it can happen (a God child of mine was born to a family on the pill!).
Many women and men are not 100% in using contraceptives. Which can result in pregnancy. That is part of the PP money making plan.
They are just lying about it so they can play the victim.
Just curious but where in the article does it say they are sluts? Or is this your learned opinion? The sister in law of a good friend was married, had the two kids she wanted and used abortion for birth control. Was she a slut? Nope, just a murderess.
A co-worker was told after her IVF baby that she could not pregnant because of a preexisting condition. She was on the pill and got pregnant. She kept the baby and then had her tubes tied.
I was using the example of an unmarried woman who has sex twice a week for a year to demonstrate a statistical likelihood of pregnancy. I suppose there are lots of ways to describe such a person. I used the term that I thought appropriate.
Two of my brother-in-law’s five children were condom babies. But yet, we have scads of secularists, libertarians, liberals, hedonists, etc. etc. who always manage to pop up like whack-a-moles and screech that any questioning of the dogma of the 100% success rate of contraceptives is tantamount to establishing a theocracy.
Sorry, I was just trying to put it in someone else’s terms (which I tried to make clear that those were their words, not mine) to try to make it easier for them to understand my point of view... at least, that was the general intention.
Um, if they did use contraception, then WHY are they pregnant?
Seems to me that they either didn’t take it properly, or maybe they all used the same contraception that has some major MAJOR problem with it? Again, seems like the first explanation is most likely, since they knew they had abortion to fall back on in case they got pregnant anyway.
Highly irresponsible women, in any case. And an awful lot of dead babies because of that irresponsibility. :-(
