Chertoff Says Border Will Be Secure 3 Years After Bush Leaves
CNSNews.com ^ | June 10, 2008 | Penny Starr

Posted on 06/10/2008 3:48:27 AM PDT by Man50D

Secretary of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff on Monday blamed tightened security on the U.S.-Mexico border for increased violence there, and he said the border probably will not be fully secured until 2011, three years after President Bush leaves office.

"(Increased violence) is what typically happens when you start to enforce and make it harder to fight over the shrinking pie, so to speak, and who gets the best opportunity to exploit the additional space that's left," Chertoff said at a news conference at the U.S. Customs and Border Protection headquarters in Washington, D.C. on Monday.

"That's a good sign," he said. "The bad news is, it's created a lot of violence and created a lot of havoc, particularly in Mexico."

Chertoff added that quelling the violence will require working with the Mexican government - and millions of dollars from American taxpayers if Congress funds the Merida Initiative. The multi-year proposal would give Mexico $500 million and $50 million to Central America in 2008 to fight the drug cartels - another $450 million and $100 million respectively will be given for fiscal year 2009.

"We simply do not have enough workers at both ends of the spectrum," Gutierrez said, "from low-skilled field laborers to high-skilled technology workers."

That's a bunch of bull! Oklahoma's unemployment rate decreased after it passed more strict anti illegal immigration laws. There are more than enough American IT workers! The problem is Congress increased the number of H1B working visas a few years, due to influence from lobbyists on behalf of large IT firms, in order to bring in cheaper labor from India. The result is displaced American IT workers.

Chertoff doesn't get it.

Obama's lawless society won't have a need for border security.

McCain's amnesty will grant all of the criminals the right to stay here.

Either way, individual Americans had better utilize their Second Amendment rights to stock up while they still can.

McCain is lukewarm to the 2nd Amendment, and Obama is a Stalinist toward the concept of self-defense.

Either way, I don't see any type of true border security or immigration law for the foreseeable future.

It's up to the states, cities and individuals to defend themselves against the horde of criminal invaders, because the federal government doesn't give a rat's ear about us.

A noble effort Mr. Chertoff, but unless the Border is effectively sealed by Jan 2009 you may as well start job hunting right now.

Maybe if we offered citizenship to illegals who join Border Patrol and receive bonuses for how little traffic passes through their assigned section of the border...

Admission of guilt. Border Security is one of the major functions the Founders created the Fed for in the first place. There should have been enforcement all along. The Fed reniged on there responsibility.

Wow, that was a great interview. His comments about the judge appointments conflicts with his "Gang of 14" past, does it not?

Why does McCain receive lukewarm grades on the 2nd Amendment, then?

Gunowners of America gave him an "F-"

What's the deal?

CHERTOFF LEARNED NOTHING FROM HISTORY

THIS WAS SAID IN 1986 TOO!!!

IN 1986 THEY SAID THE BORDER WOULD BE SECURE BY THE END OF THE DECADE.

CHERTOFF THINKS PEOPLE ARE THAT STUPID.

Chertoff must be using vitural logic to go with his virtual fence.

Chertoff was a great Bush appointment. Remember it’s his job to make America look like an uninviting target to our enemies. He’s one creepy looking dude to people who evaluating our vulnerability. I’m saying he’s a good fit for the job in a lot of ways. Who was the guy before him, the big jocular feller? Not a good choice.

Also, interestingly, a couple of border cities were listed in the top 10 real estate markets. El Paso and McAllen made the list based on real estate transaction data from the most recent polling. Not sure what it means or if the border enforcement is already having that sort of salutory effect.

It's nonsense that there aren't enough workers to build the wall. Does anyone remember a few decades ago when thousands of men went voluntarily to Alaska to work on the Alaskan Pipeline?

Chertoff Says Border Will Be Secure 3 Years After Bush Leaves

Won't matter one bit. Little Juan spouted a load of crap about "learning his lesson" in regards to amnesty for illegal aliens and he was lying his azz off. The defeat of the amnesty bill was one of the biggest smackdown of politicians by the American public in history. But little Juan is right back on the side of the illegals AGAIN in his open support for amnesty.

After adjusting his immigration stance when his comprehensive immigration bill died last summer, John McCain, now with the Republican nomination in hand, has once again ruffled conservative feathers on the immigration issue by returning to the position that almost stopped his campaign dead in its tracks.

Mr. McCain joined California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger last week in supporting a "comprehensive" immigration plan that would address the problem "in a humane and compassionate fashion."

"Sen. [Edward] Kennedy and I tried very hard to get immigration reform, a comprehensive plan, through the Congress of the United States," Mr. McCain stated. "We must make it a top agenda item."

Chertoff is out of his ever loving mind. Much of the violence taking place on the borders are clashes between drug gangs and cartels.

The illegals may be getting caught in the cross fire but Chertoff is one doofus. Lately, some of the people Bush has surrounded himself with have turned out to be incompetent buffoons.

Absolutely, there are so many construction workers out of work right now, they’d do a voluntary temporary relocation to help build that sucker, thereby earning some money now and securing their future, as there will be less illegals later to steal their jobs!

Oh I think he does.

Every pronouncement he’d ever made about the fence has been an exercise in evasion and dissimulation.

If you look carefully at the numbers, almost NOTHING has actually been built.

The 700-mile Alaska Pipeline was built in three years start to finish at a cost of about $25 billion in 2006 dollars.

I remember the polls here at FR where McCain was in the bottom .02% and was out of money. It is clearly evident that someone took over the entire election process and got their man in. I do know that Soros donated to his cause.

I fear for the future of our country with either nominee (McLame or Osamabama) in office.

We can no longer speak with our vote, that is lost forever unless we revolt and start over again. We have once again been offered the choice of the lesser of two evils. Not this time for me. Twice for Bush is enough. I would not cast my vote for McPain at gunpoint.

The Lame one is running behind the MUSLIM in the most recent polls. I’ll bet he is wishing he didn’t cast his Conservative base aside for the likes of Feinstien, Kennedy and the rest of the libs he has cuddled up to lately.

Let me know when the revolution to take back our country begins.

"It is clearly evident that someone took over the entire election process and got their man in. I do know that Soros donated to his cause."

The larger question is this: how is it that our great and wonderful country found itself with these three candidates for President: the wife of a draft dodging, impeached, accused rapist of a former president, who belongs in federal prison for her many misdeeds; a hate-America Muslim who has refused to say the Pledge of Allegiance or wear the American flag pin; and a liberal Republican NWO internationalist who attacked the First Amendment and about whom many unanswered questions still exist concerning his Viet Nam experience?

This is the best our system has to offer? These three losers?

Something is drastically wrong here, no doubt about it.

"We can no longer speak with our vote, that is lost forever unless we revolt and start over again." No longer quite so unthinkable.

Secretary of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff on Monday blamed tightened security on the U.S.-Mexico border for increased violence there

Success will fix this!

Once our Southern border is truly secured, the drug cartels and their violence will leave Northern Mexico since they know that they and their product are not going to get across the border into the USA.
