Chinese hack computers at congressman's office
Houston Chronicle ^ | 6/11/08 | AP

Posted on 06/11/2008 8:00:44 AM PDT by Dawnsblood

A Virginia congressman said today the FBI has found that four of his government computers have been hacked by sources working out of China.

In remarks prepared for delivery this afternoon, Rep. Frank Wolf says he has been told by the FBI that four computers in his personal office were compromised.

The Virginia Republican says that similar incidents — also originating from China — have taken place on computers of other members of Congress and at least one House committee.

A spokesman for Wolf says the four computers were being used by staff members working on human rights issues.

Wolf is a longtime critic of the Chinese government's human rights record.

But... but... This story CAN’T be accurate. Bush and the other RINOs have assured us that the Chinese are our friends!

If only. When will people have enough of this?

I do not know how much bigger my .htaccess file can get, but I have all of their IP's blocked from my sites, and keep it up to date. It's fun to read the logs. Why they would want to bother with me is another puzzle, excepting the bot activity.

And the software was designed right here in the good ol' USA.

“have taken place on computers of other members of Congress”

Aren’t all of Congress’s computers behind the same firewall and then each Congressman’s office has its own security?

That sort of helps, but then they just use any of the thousands of systems in the US they've compromised to hit your site. Our government is starting to wake up to this threat, but I don't think they've realized that we're already fully at war with China on this front. Well, elements of the government may realize it, but there's no concerted political, diplomatic and military response that I can see commensurate with our at-war status.

Norton?

Brilliant!

Not that it actually provides any security, but it will slow the computer down so much as to make it unusable.

That'll fix 'em!

No, the firewall and other scanners stop that. A relative had a new (DUH..Unsecured..) computer for less than two days before it was taken down by a lot of things, but most of those were commercial American scum(following the money).

The website servers get hammered with SYNfloods, etc. and dictionary probes far worse.

Some people get mad when I rail about this filthy festering pesthole that IS very much at war with us, forgetting that every place on the Internet is "Next door".

This sucks. He was personally involved in preventing the State Dept. from purchasing thousands of Lenovo PCs. Going against a previous promise made to the Chinese by an Administration official for some reason.

Chinese parts themselves aren’t a threat but when a gov’t agency purchases thousands, what’s to stop the PLA from adding “extras” during assembly that make those PCs “phone home” as soon as they are connected?

Agreed. It is because the White House itself is aggressively stomping out any concerns as "inordinate" and "counterproductive" to their diplomatic posture.

Hence we are seeing Democrat-style denial in a supposedly Republican Administation. Appeasement in other words.
