On May 30th, Rush Limbaugh said he had heard a rumor that a tape exists of Michelle Obama using the word “Whitey” from the pulpit of Trinity United Church of Christ. Truth:
No such tape exists. Michelle Obama has not spoken from the pulpit at Trinity and has not used that word. Lie:
Blogger Larry Johnson wrote on May 31st that he would add “New and dramatic developments. This is a heads up. I’ll post the news Monday morning by 0900 hours. Now I know why people who have seen the videotape say it is stunning. Barack’s headaches are only starting.”

It is a sure bet that once Barry is crowned, he and the ridiculous collection of idiots on Capitol Hill will reinstate the fairness doctrine.

If Rush said that “a rumor exist[ed]” about such a tape, he had plenty of company, like Dem flack Bob Beckel.
The issue is, how did Rush treat the rumor? Was he skeptical? I’m guessing he WAS skeptical, because this Obama website just says, very plainly, that Rush said that a rumor existed. If Rush had really been rumorMONGERING, then the Obama website could have quoted Rush saying something juicy.
Political commentators, including Rush, would be irresponsible NOT to mention prominent rumors about “spouses of Presidential candidates,” esp. when those spouses regularly campaign for the candidate.
This is effectively a deceptive half-truth: Make it seem as though ONLY Rush was mentioning the rumor, when it fact it was scores of commentators, left and right. “FightTheSmear” -— by using a whitewash.

I missed a lot of Rush today, but I think that I distinctly remember him saying that “there IS no tape.” Can’t swear to that, but I’m pretty sure.
