Bruce is my wife’s favorite...he’s the closest thing Hollywood has to John Wayne these days.

Yes he is....one of the very few “good guys” left in that “career field”...

Are you watching?

I don’t really follow “movie stars”....so had no idea about Bruce Willis’ upbringing, background, career - except to remember he was a good comedian in Moonlighting ....and then all of a sudden he was a good guy/tough guy movie star! lol

Talking about Moonlighting now - Cybil Shepherd....
He was brought to the network execs 11 times before they accepted him for the part....ABC - no one wanted himexcept Glen Cameron - finally was told to put him in the pilot but “don’t let them get romantically involved” ...no one would ever believe that..

The banter between these two - the chemistry - in that show was the best thing on TV at that time..

Showing him playing his harmonica....was written into that show...what a character!

(thanks for being on this diversion from the serious news thread which I guess doesn’t qualify in breaking news...I understand, mods)

Madonna was set for the lead in Die Hard - she didn’t feel comfortable with Bruce Willis - they released Madonna from contract - and Bruce got

Die Hard: He was not the first person they came to for lead role - everybody else turned it down....

He was the first lead actor to get $5 M for a movie...all other actors’ salaries went UP after he got his negotiated deal for Die Hard...

Are you watching?

No... but he's proven himself to be a very, versatile actor. He even made Brad Pitt palatable in Twelve Monkeys.

His ex, Demi, is a Republican too. I have the feeling Ashton’s became one too (or as Hollywood will consider it “guilty by association”). I actually remember Demi in the 80s talking about Reagan, she was amazing.

Demi is a Republican? Talked about Reagan (admiringly)?

See, you learn a lot on these “non political” threads...

OH - I didn’t see that movie - not a big Brad Pitt fan ...but I do hear he is spending a lot of his own money to rebuild parts of New Orleans - a rare thing for a movie “star” to do - spend THEIR own money for a good cause...if one considers rebuilding N.O. a good cause.

It’s too early and I am too lazy to search for some of her speeches but I will look them up later on and post them :) She has been quite quiet and keeps a low key since her divorce from Bruce so you cannot make any assumptions about her currently but again, I do remember in the 80s, her and Bruce, quite determined. I was a young girl going gaga over them both so I was paying attention :)

Talking about Demi now....moving out of LA on behalf of their children...to a small town in Idaho...great place to reaise kids......(his brother said Demi is reason Bruce Willis is alive today - she reigned in his wildness).

He says everything in comparison to raising kids is just stupid....

He is a great father...

Then the Divorce - very painful....but they are friends ....who put their kids first...

great - thanks....

Talking again about having children changed him for the better - his kids have been in films with him....(again, I don’t “
follow” movie stars and their lives...so I did not know this).

Good to know Bruce Willis is such a good dad!

Talking about Bruce with Meryl Streep and Goldie Hawn in a movie (that I ever saw...)....Death Becomes Her

playing a milquetoast character....overweight, Republican....!

(Streep - sort of what was going on in his life at that time..)

I went on a date with Bruce Willis years and years ago when he was a “nobody” working as a bartender in NYC. Very nice guy, definitely had something going on, you knew he wasn’t an ordinary guy. So years later when I saw a TV commercial for Moonlighting and did a double-take it wasn’t entirely surprising lol.
