HAMPTON, Va. — Former Virginia Governor Mark Warner has accepted the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate and taken himself out of the mix as a possible running mate for Barack Obama.

Warner made his announcement Saturday at the state Democratic Convention in Hampton after accepting the nomination.

Warner said, “I have not sought and I will not accept any other opportunity.”

The Messiah's having a bit of trouble finding a willing running mate, it seems...shades of 1972 and McGovern again.

I’m kind of wondering that myself. We now have had two governors in key states taking themselves out of the VP race. I’m not ready to starting counting my chickens yet, but this could be the start of a trend (one can only hope).

regardless, this will make Virginia officially a blue state. When your governor and both senators are rats, that’s pretty much the high profile statewide positions. Don’t know about their sec of state or atty general, but Virginia will be even bluer than Oregon after this election.

Our Atty Gen'l and Lt. Governor are both solid conservative Republicans. Normally in a situation like this (like back in 2001) there would be a contest for the gubernatorial nomination, but our Lt. Gov (Bill Bolling) has decided to run for a 2nd term as Lt. Gov, while allowing the Atty Gen'l (Bob McDonnell) to pursue the nomination for governor unopposed. McDonnell would be a great governor if elected.

As for Gilmore however, it look like our illustrious VA GOP picked the weaker of the the two candidates (Bob Marshall being the other). Marshall is a staunch conservative that could still win in liberal northern VA (NoVA), but Gilmore is a party hack and is sure to lose with the baggage he carries from his term as governor.

Naw, Mark Warner has his own version of an "intern problem", plus he was the Governor in Virginia when former Governor of New Jersey, Jim McGreavy, was cruising down to Manassas Virginia regularly to partake of homosexual sex at an Interstate rest stop on I-66.

The State and local police were making massive raids of the place at the time, and McGreavy never showed up in the public arrest records.

It's impossible to believe he escaped arrest while all those other guys were hauled off for booking and fines.

Warner really does need to address this issue.

Obviously Obamasama has no problem with a VP who might be a tad soft on homosexual behavior.

You can erase the Great Left Hope of Virginia’s 13 EVs this November. They just lost them.

You know, I've said this before. I just ~love~ it when people all the way across the country tell us everything there is to know about Virginia. And what people not from Virginia don't understand is, that until the late 60s, and really even later, Virginia was a solid Democratic state in spite of the way we voted nationally.

Mark Warner will probably win the Senate seat. And it's possible, though not as probably as some thing, that Obama could take the state. But, November is still a long way off, we don't know who the Veeps are, McCain will still get a large portion of the military vote.

Virginia does not follow a national pattern. If there's any pattern to follow, look at the fact that, since 1977, when electing a Governor, Virginia has elected the opposite party of what was in the White House.

Yes, absolutely the Virginia GOP has had it's head up it's butt for a good while now. But with a new chair at RPV, and the life that the Marshall campaign kicked back into the party, you shouldn't count Virginia out, not just yet.

Granted, if voting for McCain didn't require barf bag dispensers in the voting booth, I'd be a little more upbeat about his Virginia chances. But don't give Virginia to Obama yet.

Nah, same skeleton(s) that caused him to back out of presidential race would cause him to back out of VP race.

"...don't give Virginia to Obama yet."

Exactly...Virginia has not voted fer a RAT fer POTUS since 1964, and 2008 will be no different. In the end, I expect Obama to lose VA's EVs by AT LEAST 8-10 points.

Virginia doesn't elect full-fledged, unabashed Marxists for President...Dave
