Temperatures Rise In IL Town Over Window-Mounted Air Conditioner Ban

Addison, IL (AHN) - It will be a hot summer in this Chicago neighbor this year, not only because of the rising temperature but a ban on window-mounted air conditioner units.

The prohibition is the result of an ordinance approved by the village board in March. It specifically banned the installation of window-mounted air coolers on walls that face the street or in side windows 12 feet or less from the street.

The law seeks to improve Addison's aesthetics, according to Addison Mayor Larry Hartwig. Violators of the ban will be given warnings this year, but next year they would be fined up to $500.

Addison is the home of several large U.S. firms which includes Pizza Hut, Mary Kay and Palm Harbor Homes. Its stringent landscape regulations even defines plant heights in certain locations.

Addison has about 36,000 residents who live in multifamily dwellings that are quite old. Some residents have questioned the correctness of such a law during summer.

Look for riots in Addison later this summer. Smart thinking, Mayor! Crowd a whole bunch of people into hot little boxes, ban their only relief from the heat and see what happens, LOL!

Stupid Socialists.

Addison Mayor Larry Hartwig.

Is this the same person who owns Larry Hartwig Central Air Conditioning Company? (Ok, I made that last part up.)

This is just the beginning. With electric vehicles and more demand on the electrical grid we we next have an electrical shortage. There have been no new power plants built in years and that is going to bite us next.

Good golly Miss Molly! Everything is going to declared illegal at the rate we're going.

Every time any new law is passed, two existing laws need to be repealed.

When will government meddling into our lives stop? When will these "controllers" stop? These good citizens need to go in front of their elected officials and speak their minds. As Rush Limbaugh said on his show this past Monday, "It's time to stay, 'STOP!'"

The stench of dead people in hot houses is more aesthetic than air conditioners in windows?

Awe, Man! Don’t let my Dad see those. He’s already obsessed with those “ceramic” room heaters. He runs those for 10 months of the year to keep his apartment “slightly below broiling.” I have to wear shorts and a tank top to visit him in the middle of February!

So if he discovers these A/C units, I’ll need to wear a Parka in August, LOL!

I’d like to get a portable A/C to use when there are power outages. Just hook it up to a generator and stick the vent out a window and you’re good-to-go when the central A/C isn’t available. Then put it away when the electricity returns.

I agree, that is an easy workaround to the ban.

Not just the people that live in that area but everyone should ban together from all over and voice their complaints. Every time this type of thing happens, everyone should complain to the local governments.
