Most of the conversations will be about Russert.

That's assuming that there will be any conversation that WON'T be about Tim Russert. Until he died, I had no idea how tough he was when questioning liberals. I have to have my lying eyes checked.

Let us give condolences to the Russert Family today.

The driveby media has been overtly partisan for many years, especially these past several decades, and we spend a lot of time discussing it. However biased Mr Russert’s analyses and interviews were, he is far removed from that now. We wish him God’s Great Peace.

Rest in Peace, Tim.

Morning AB and thanks for starting this thing so early! Now I will get a chance to freep a little before I have to go to the kids house in Key West. Thanks also for providing the thread and happy Father's Day to ya buddy.!!..........

The DBM will be unglued about Russert's passing and it is a shame for anyone to go that way.

What is uncalled for however will be the rewriting of just how fair and balanced he actually was or wasn't.

No one's passing is worth rewriting history.

His passing was a shame but that doesn't give anyone the right to redo history.

I am posting the thread from the hotel lobby in Orlando, Florida.

In a few minutes we’ll be loading up the van and heading back to Alabama. I met up with Phsstpok at the convention for far too short a time, and will post more when we get home and settled. Pray for him, also, his health is poor but there might be good news afterall.

See you later tonight!

Hello, everyone.

I usually just read this thread, but today, I felt compelled to post my condolences to the Russert family.

I came home from work on Friday and my husband was on the pc. He said, “Tim Russert had a heart attack.”

I didn’t realize he had died until yesterday, when I was reading the news. I couldn’t believe it.

I’m so sorry he’s gone—I remember his bantering with Rudy Guiliani, they were talking about the Yankees.

R.I.P., Tim. You made a difference.

Great catch Cindy and thanks once again for your hard work on the threat assessments!

Hugo Chavez is a perfect example of incrementalism, destroying countries a little at a time, employed by the left.

If it was more expedient for him to give 300 million in arms to the rebel FARC commies in Colombia to help their drug dealing and taking over of the Colombian govt. he would do it without hesitation and did.

Now if he has to throw them under the bus a few months later to preserve his power--no problem-- they were useful at the time and now he obviously does not need them any more.He is keeping his eye on the goal of nationalizing Venezuela.

The left and-- we are talking far left here--will do anything necessary to look good, stay in power, and slowly but surely nationalize what ever nation they are in the midst of destroying.

Look what our left does vis a vi energy security.

Hopefully someone will ask them somewhere at what price gasoline would they allow drilling in Anwar, the Gulf, oil shale, new nukes etc.

They won't have a good answer and will result to the oil lease chatting points they were given by the dnc last week. But anyone with half a brain should realize those lease are worthless or the oil companies would already be drilling there.

The hard left is a force to be reckoned with and will stop at nothing to destroy free market capitalism. It's up to us to expose them every chance we get. And we will!

I happened upon the tail end of NBC Nightly News the day Russert died. David Gregory was grinning ear-to-ear. It was creepy, as though Gregory was the happiest man alive the day Russert died.

Like minds, they have to go with him or possibly bring Brokaw back. There are few other choices. We could only hope they would pick Chris but even nbc is not that vacant.

Tim. You made a difference.

I'll agree with that... but the difference he made was in skewing reality. Russert was a master propagandist... sorry that he died so young but relieved that he's no longer a weapon for the DNC/DBM.

I caught one segment on MSNBC with Andrea Mitchell going on and on about how 'fair and balanced' Russert's interviews were.

I thought -- all these years of watching MTP, and I missed those (few) interviews.

[That is the problem with the lib media. For them, perception is reality; their perception is that they are fair and balanced. Therefore, they don't perceive how slanted their 'journalism' actually is.]

If one were to review the videos over the years, I would bet Timmy showed more 'frowny faces' when interviewing Republicans and when interviewing Dems.

Mitchell doesn't have enough DNC "gravitas". They need someone openly left wing yet professing subtly they are fair and balanced.

the only drawback with stretch is that he is a lot dumber than Russert.

They need a well know face with a half a brain who is a lefty but can pass for middle of the road. Brokaw, Chris Wallace ten years from now, not a lot of obvious choices. They usually pick a well know rat lawyer who is a media personality as well, few fill the bill.

Isn’t Dan Abrams the head of MSNBC?

Even though Gregory has subbed on MTP, he might be a hard choice for permanent host.

They may run a few ‘test’/guest hosts in the coming weeks to see how the viewership numbers look.

Of all the talking heads on TV, Russert asked the toughest questions of liberals compared to other interviewers. Forget the fact that he was equally hard on conservatives. Finding ANYONE in the MSM who asked liberals tough questions was something we conservatives should have appreciated. Especially after decades of criticizing the liberal bias in the media and the softball questions that get thrown to liberal politicians.

My thoughts, exactly. Rest In Peace, Tim. He at least made an attempt to appear neutral, but that was not always possible from his perch in the swarm of liberal wannabees in the DC NY corridor. Its hard to look purple, when every one around you is blue. Now, if NBC were really smart, Tony Snow would appear on the scene.

Andrea Mitchell can’t even just technically do the gig. A local weatherman would be better than her presentation skills. Is it just me or does she really just stumble around, miss the teleprompter, etc.

While I sympathize w/Russert's family, his colleagues, and their sorrow at his untimely loss, I wish the media would end their 3 day orgy of fond memories and praise and give the public a rest.

Russert, THE icon of excellence (according to them), had the same format Sunday after Sunday: quotes from the NYT and WP, the questions (accommodating or gotcha types), and the frown or smile (depending on whether the guests were liberal or conservative).

I fully expect MSNBC to erect a Tim Russert statue similar to the Lincoln Memorial in their lobby.

LOL. And they keep extolling his crack staff for being able to find those quotes. I mean, really, how hard was that. Does no one realize or think about the fact that they never went beyond those quotes to dig up some actual facts?

Either the pundits or we are suffering from the condition called “cognitive dissonance” when we remember the interviewing style of Tim Russert. Since I think my brain is okay, (LOL!) they must be the ones who are having the trouble understanding reality.

It's hilarious that the DBM still haven't figured out that when they say or do ANYTHING publicly it doesn't just DISAPPEAR into the great cosmic beyond FOREVER (as it was in the Spivakian era), and for the past, oh, 25 years or so we, the great unwashed, can (and do) record it and decide for ourselves whether or not they're biased.

If it was just Andrea Mitchell and a few people on his direct payroll, it would not have been so bad. But it was everybody, from all sides of the spectrum.

"He always tried to convert people to be fans of his beloved Buffalo Bills..."

"He brought his Jesuitian ( I think that has something to do with going to Jesuit schools) training with him..."

"He brought Buffalo with him, and his working class background with him..."

But his career development as a hack for a liberal Senator from New York, and as a hack for a liberal Mayor of New York City and liberal Governor of New York State? That all got left behind in his fair and balanced times.

A miracle that approaches the current miracle of a politician spending 20 years in a pew never being affected by the hateful and racist remarks coming from the pulpit. No wonder James Carville talks about Judas Iscariot; he must be waiting for the help to clear the table from the Last Supper so the liberals can be seated.

Exactly. And - when you hear Matthews, Olbermann, Schieffer and others use this praise, arent they in fact saying that they are not and cannot be as tough as Tim was? They dont realize that they are admitting they are soft on their guests while Tim was "prepared, did his homework, tough etc.

With that said - I feel for the Russert family and pray that, with God's help, they get thru this as best any family could.

Another example of “fair & balanced” reporting, this time from the “non-partisan” CSPAN -—

I happened to see this on their home page:

RNC’S ROLE IN CAMPAIGN 2008
Today

This Sunday, Republican Nat’l Cmte. Chair Mike Duncan discusses the current presidential race. He examines the McCain campaign, how to oppose Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL), and next September’s Republican convention. The interview was conducted by political reporters from McClatchy Newspapers and the Politico.

but when I went to their schedule to check the time so I could actually hear what the RNC Chair has to say, and what he actually looks like!

I found:

10:00 AM EDT
0:30 (est.) Roundtable
Republican Election Agenda
C-SPAN, Newsmakers
Steve Thomma , McClatchy Newspapers
Jonathan Martin , Politico, The

http://inside.c-spanarchives.org:8080/cspan/schedule.csp

00000

Anyone who just looked at the schedule page would have no idea that a Republican was actually a participant in the interview.

This kind of bias is consistent - perhaps, just by the IT folks that post the schedule who are charter members of MOVEON.org, but it is definitely not F&B!

Yes, condolences for the Russert family are very much in order. This has all been reminiscent of the Paul Wellstone memorial, and is probably an MSM rehearsal for the Ted Kennedy event, when his inevitable passing happens. We already saw some of that with the announcements about the tumor.

Even when they get the schedule right, they still end up with moonbeams in the interview chairs and moonbats on the phone. This morning there was some liberal blogger who made the claim that 1 in 6 women in this country have been raped. Steve the moderator gave him a funny look and repeated, "1 in 6?", but did not follow up with a request for a source.

Maybe the C-Span show could outsource Andrew Levy to offer a Half-Time Report on the guests and the callers. That would require fact-checking, speed and accuracy.

NBA Dance Team Entertains, Shows Appreciation For Troops

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2031183/posts

The Seattle SuperSonics Dance Team visited troops deployed to Contingency Operating Base Speicher, located in Tikrit, Iraq, June 11.

“Every day, this place and the Soldiers, everyone, has exceeded the expectations that I had,” explained Jillian, one of the Sonics dancers. “I have learned so much [more] by talking with a Soldier for one minute than when I listened to news stations or radio stations.”

.
“Everything that we see in the United States and everything we learn is completely opposite,” said Sabrina, the dance team coach.

Thanks for the thread - I have BBC on today watching the President. AF1 just landed at Heathrow and awaiting the President and First Lady to disembark.

He is off to see the Queen for a social visit which is being billed as a farewell visit and also an indication of their warm friendly relationship. So much for the President not being liked in our neck of the woods.
