'Aggressive Action at Home' (CFR Urges Climate Change Legislation)
Washington Post ^ | 16 June 2008 | Editorial Staff

A29-MEMBER independent task force of the Council on Foreign Relations released a report Friday that adds another authoritative voice to the clamor for U.S. leadership on climate change. Co-chaired by former New York governor George E. Pataki (R) and former Iowa governor Tom Vilsack (D), the bipartisan document makes an argument that has fallen on deaf ears at the White House. "As the United States takes increasingly aggressive action at home," the authors correctly note, "it will be in a stronger position to ask more of others."

"Confronting Climate Change: A Strategy for U.S. Foreign Policy" endorses a reduction in U.S. greenhouse gas emissions between 60 and 80 percent below 1990 levels by 2050 through a cap-and-trade system. This puts it in line with the 60 percent goal of the Climate Security Act that failed in the Senate last week and with the 50 to 85 percent target of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. The task force insists that the successor agreement to the Kyoto Protocol include developing nations, such as China and India, and it calls on the United States not to sign an international climate agreement without them. And if the United States doesn't sign, the task force urges it, the European Union and others to create a smaller emissions trading pact that could link up with another global pact later.

Elmer, Go away. You ruined New York, you are the epitome of an empty suit, and your corruption was only matched by Boss Spitzer. Gnu Yak is in a state of Hades and there is no hope for survival. Your three terms were a travesty and your cronies continue to raise havoc in Albany. Your march to Socialism through this STUPID “Cap and Trade” system will just enslave the Middle Class and ruin Liberty. Vilsack and you are IDIOTS to think that we are the cause for climate change. This just verifies that the Council on Foreign Relations are a bunch of Elitist Socialists who want to ENSLAVE the middle class. I don’t buy it and Elmer, go back to your farm and SHUT UP!

Excuse me? Why should we listen to a bunch of politicians about a scientific dispute?

Who is paying for all these politicians to get together and push this socialist nonsense?

For all the manipulative, disingenuos, liars at CFR:

1. Average surface temperatures around the globe have not increased in the last 10 years.
2. Ocean temperatures have decreased in the most recently measured 5 years.
3. WATER VAPOR comprises over 90% of all “greenhouse gases”, and ALL attempts to ACURATELY model causes in variations in water vapor in the atmosphere have FAILED!
4. CO2 is a LAGGING component in global temperature cycles, NOT a leading indicator!
5. Human behavior is NOT a factor in global climate change, BUT you might consider THE SUN!
6. If you’re serious about controlling global atmospheric pollution, talk to India and China and leave me alone until that mess is cleaned up.
7. 11 of 13 Polar Bear populations have thrived over the last 25 years, so quit USING them as some kind of tear jerk, political pawn.

Who is paying for all these politicians to get together and push this socialist nonsense?

PRECISELY.

Just as it has become impossible to have a conversation about "race" in America, we can no longer discuss where the weight of proof rests in the "Global Climate Debate."

Just to ask such a question means you are on the payroll of "the oil companies."

People must understand that "Green" campaign spending dwarfs nearly all other "special interest" spending, creating an advocacy industry not unparalleled, by unprecedented in size and influence.

If you're looking for the source of this insanity, look no further than the Sierra Club, and quit sending money to these people.

They are no more politically neutral than AARP.

By the way, there's no such thing as being "politically neutral." MNJohnnie - You keep asking these "inconvenient" questions.

The CFR is just another club where people get together to talk. They can’t influence our government. /sarc
