Illegal Occupation: US Soldier Refuses To Deploy To Iraq
A month after US army reservist Matthis Chiroux publicly refused to deploy to Iraq, the former sergeant on Sunday set himself up for possible prosecution by failing to report for active duty with his unit in South Carolina. "Tonight at midnight, I may face further action from the army for refusing to reactivate to participate in the Iraq occupation," Chiroux told reporters in Washington.
"I stand here today in defense of those who have been stripped of their voices in this occupation, the warriors of this nation...", Chiroux read from a statement as his father Rob, who had travelled to Washington from Alabama to support his son on Father's Day, stood beside him.
Last month, Chiroux rejected an order calling him back to active duty in Iraq, saying he considers the war "illegal and unconstitutional."
Chiroux served five years in the army, with tours in Afghanistan, Japan, Germany and the Philippines.

Happy Fathers Day Dad, you did well raising your son to be a deserter from the military.
And being from Alabama? When you get back down South, don't expect too much sympathy.

Considering we have been at war since 2001 and in Iraq specifically since 2003, this deserter has no reason and nobody to blame but himself. It is a volunteer military and that more reason why he should be executed. And that is exactly what General Washington would have done. To think at the widespread treason going on in this country today and how we are heading into this nation’s unfortunate sunset.

If they don't, this maggot may yet regret he's a liberal.

I guess he didn’t read the fine print in the contract he signed. You know, the part about being required to participate in illegal, immoral, racist, imperialistic wars of occupation.

Funny. My Nat’l Guard daughter's getting tired of college and has put herself on a “deployment” waiting list. She was turned down from Afghanistan in the early spring ‘cause they decided it was too expensive to build separate barracks, latrines, and showers for the few women scheduled, and then she was turned back from Iraq on a somewhat similar cost-effectiveness decision.
Iraq, in ‘04 of her, was “get the job done”, while college seems to be mostly about passive memorization and submission to the erratic demands of fussy, weird, urban, liberal professorial people, she says. She feels like she needs a geek break.

As a photojournalist. This guy wasn't charging enemy positions with a knife between his teeth. If you read the link in the above post, you will find some quotes by Mattis. He heard bad stories during his time as a photojournalist, so he's afraid to go to Iraq now.
My son (USMC) has done three tours in Iraq. That's because there's a war on, ya know...

I would settle for:
1. Government reimbursement for all college expenses,
2. 5 years in the stockade and
3. Dishonorable discharge.

He was in for 5 and was discharged from Active last year. So he joined after 9/11 knowing about IRR and NOW he has a problem?
I have two DD-214s (Honorable Discharge papers), one for active duty and one for IRR. IRR has been part of the deal since at least the ‘80’s. I got the second DD-214 3 months before the first Gulf War. I knew what was happening at the time and was sweating over it...but I would have done what I agreed to and signed up for. IRR is not a “backdoor” draft.
I won’t call him a coward since he seems to be willing to stand up to the USG over this but he is a cheat, a liar, and a traitor. A Dishonorable from the IRR should take care of him for the rest of his life.

I agree. My Brother-in-Law through out his knee a week before his Iraq Deployment. His CO told him to stay behind in the hospital. He made the decision to go ahead and deploy with his unit and is out on patrol as I type this.

I so appreciate the service our men and women provide through their even ultimate sacrifices.
Guys like this make me embarrassed for those that serve with honor and distinction. His cowardliness should ensure no one ever gives him a descent job. Not only should he receive the maximum punishment our military can dish out, he should be shamed for the rest of his life for his corwardliness.

Considering we have been at war since 2001 I miss the old days when Congress used to actually declare war. An "authorization for use of military force" just doesn't quite cut it. Either we're at war, or we're not. The cowards should make up their minds.
Still, missing a movement is not a good thing, especially in times of deployment. The Dems will be right behind this "man" with no honor, fitting.

My IRR ended a couple months after 9/11. They had a short window in which to call me up, but they didn’t.

His title of Photojournalist is misleading. Army career fields have photographers. They take/process the pictures. Public Relations specialist write the captions and any articles. Combat photographers get in the dirt with the troops and provide enough detail for rear echelon mf’s (old salts know what that means, the rest of you should be able to figure it out)to write the stories. PR flaks safe and secure wherever assigned. I doubt his tour of duty in Afganistan was any more dangerous than Al Gore’s in Vietnam.
It is a courts martial offense to fail to report for duty. This jerk is just manufacturing reasons to cover his cowardice. Left wing nuts verbage/garbage is simply convenient.
