Gingrich: Jindal 'Best Candidate' for VP
newsmax.com ^ | June 16, 2008

Posted on 06/16/2008 7:55:23 PM PDT by Free ThinkerNY

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal is “far and away the best candidate” for John McCain’s running mate on the Republican ticket.

Appearing on CBS’s “Face the Nation” on Sunday, Gingrich said former congressman Jindal has been a “spectacular” governor and predicted he would be a presidential candidate in the future.

Asked if Jindal, 37, would be ready to take over the presidency if he had to replace McCain, Gingrich said Jindal’s “experience in the executive branch and in the legislative branch is greater than” that of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama.

Gingrich opined: “It strikes me that it’s going to be very hard for Obama’s campaign to explain that Jindal, as a governor, who has served as an assistant secretary of Health and Human Services, has served as a congressional staffer, has served as a congressman, is not qualified but Senator Obama is qualified.”

The problem with Obama, Gingrich added, is “not that he’s inexperienced,” but that “his policies are wrong.”

“Gingrich said Jindal’s ‘experience in the executive branch and in the legislative branch is greater than’ that of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama. “

By not much. I mean, it’s really splitting hairs with that kind of statement. I like Jindal, he seems to be a rising star for the GOP, but it’s just not his time yet. Let him live up to our expectations with his current office and then go for the white house in 2012.

Yes, if you want to destroy Bobby Jindal’s career. Pick someone else, Bobby Jindal is the future and let’s not waste him on saving McCain. Serve a couple of terms as Louisiana Governor, keep your nose clean and take care to clean up corruption and run in 2016.

Bobby Jindal was born June 10, 1971.

He was 5 years old when Carter got elected. He was 9 years old when Reagan was elected.

Some day, Jindal might be old enough to have the experience needed to be one heartbeat away from the Oval Office. That day will not be in the year 2008 A.D.

He is a very promising rookie pitcher. But, he is still a rookie.

P.S. So is Barack Obama ..... "rookie" that is .... not "promising".

We need Jindal to stay right here in Louisiana. In regard to his experience, he doesn't have a little more experience then Obama, he has far and away much more experience then Obama. You obviously don't know much about Bobby.

I doubt if McCain would make it thought this term. Even if he does I don’t think he will go for round two. Being the VP would surly set Jindal up for a good ‘12 run.

I agree. Once Bobby has a track record of cleaning up Louisiana, he can do the same thing for the mess President Obama leaves behind.

Sometimes you gotta go through a Jimmy Carter to get a Ronald Reagan.

Nope, too soon. Let him get a track record as governor. Also, don't hitch his wagon to McCain's falling star. It would also be somewhat lame, as it would look like the GOP is saying, "See? We have people of color, too!". Now just isn't the time.

McCain's job isn't making it through his first term, it is getting elected. Ever seen his mother on TV? She's 97 and sharp as can be. She'd make a better president than McCain.

I'm no fan of McCain, but the fact is that the age issue has been beat to death. I'm far more worried about his desire to please the enemedia which has led to horrible legislation such as McCain-Feingold and McCain-Kennedy.

It is not my concern that McCain won’t make it through 2012, it is that whomever is elected President, Obama or McCain, will be faced with inflation as high as Carter’s (17-19%) and gas at $10 a gallon. They might even institute the double nickle speed limit.

If interest rates even get close to 10%, the mortgage meltdown of today will look like prosperity.

It will be Carter II, and whomever is associated with it will be done for, VPs included.

Newt was one of America's greatest Conservative revolutionaries.

By 1996, however, it was tragically obvious that he lacked the senior leadership skills to compete against the Democratic Party and the MSM.

Time and again Newt has carelessly inflicted damage on the Conservative movement.

Jindal is a 37 year old youngster who has never been tested or vetted by the national MSM.

Newt's unqualified support for Jindal is reckless bluster.

Newt craves the spotlight, and someone needs to tell him to get off the stage.

Just wait when McCain picks Hillary.

I find it hard to believe that anyone who wants to live would pick Hill as a running mate. Even putting aside the idiocy of Hillary as the Rep. VP, I can't believe that McCain would be that devil-may-care. It's not that I don't believe McCain is brave, but that crosses the line between bravery and foolishness.
I mean, come on: is our memory so short that we don't see what happened to Tim Russert?

HOw long has Palin been Gov? I like her a lot as well - Yup, I like the sounds of a Palin/Jindall ticket in 2012 if Obama wins in 2008. If McCain can’t beat Obama on his own merit, then there is no hope. Why would McCain pick a true conservative for VP? That’s sure not John’s agenda. I can’t think of anyone he would pick that will excite anybody.

Gingrich is a global socialist fool...

Wow. I am not defending Newts faults, but when you call a conservative icon a socialist fool, you must have impossible standards...

I think conservatives are going nuts this year. People who think that letting Obama win is going to be better than voting for McCain are betting this country they can predict the future. BS. There is no end to the damage that Obama can do in 4 years with a Dem congress. If conservatives would put as much energy into pressuring a McCain admin to 'listen' as they do to whining here, they would get conservative policy.

Every day I hear McCain saying reasonable things now. Yes, he says stupid things too, but hardly anyone compliments him when he gets it right, like he did today regarding the definition of marriage, like he does every day on the war on terror, like he does on appointing judges, like he does on taxes, like he does on nuke power, like he does on lifting the offshore drilling ban....................
