The drilling issue can, and hopefully will, kill the Dems in this election.

They are on the wrong side of the fence and, since they are liberals, can't see the error in their ways.

Between that and the improving news from Iraq, I don't think they will be shoe-ins for the next election by any means.

Meanwhile, I hope their false confidence leads them down the primrose path to defeat.

Obama says drilling will have no immediate effect...same can be said of the alternative means of producing energy.

From listening to Dana Perino just now on FOX it sounds as though he’s serious. $4.00 and not going down seems to be penetrating the fog in D.C. (except for the libs of course).

We’ll see..

If President Bush were smart, and that is a stretch, he would have McCain standing next to him during the annoucement and give him credit for getting this started. But again that would require some smarts on the part of our republican leaders, which unfortunatly is in shorter supply than oil.

Thanks for the heads-up. I certainly would have missed it otherwise.

This is the first time in three-and-a-half years that I actually have been interested in hearing what he has to say in a TV speech or press conference.

He still has a chance to be the "Comeback Kid", heheh.

I would rather they drill in the godforsaken WILDERNESS in Alaska first

ANWR alone won't help enough. We need to be drilling ANWR and the continental shelf as well as open up the off limits oil shale areas. We have enough oil for quite a while, but we need to go after it everywhere. We also need to be building nuke plants and rapidly developing algae to diesel/gas and supercapacitor technologies. Forget about ethanol.

This is too little and way too late to save the stupid party from a terrible shellacking. Except for the RINO philosophy we would have had millions of additional barrels being produced domestically five years ago. But now in the middle of a economic crisis it is way too late. China is taking all the oil the world can produce and buying it with the billions of dollars that they have hoarded from their massive sales to the United States. The entire West is going to pay big time for the shortsightedness brought on by the Environmental Wackos that have invaded all western political parties.

Conservatives, alone, crying in the political wilderness have urged the exploration and production of domestic oil for decades. Now it seems that the rest of the world is about to wake up to the need for same. But because the reputed leader of the conservative movement refused to pound this message home, we will be blamed for the crisis that is now happening.

Bush administration bars drilling in Arctic wetland

If he was REALLY serious, he would declare our oil to be a matter of Strategic National Security and open drilling by presidential order.

He has that authority under existing laws that grant that very same authority to ... Saudi Arabia and all of OPEC.

That is how OPEC is allowed to operate a monopoly in restraint of trade, contrary to all international trade laws that pertain to everyone else who has not done so.

yes, there, the gulf, off the coasts, digging into the oil shale/tar sands of Utah etc....digging our rich coal deposits and building lots of nuke plants.

We need to DO IT ALL!

Thank you!!! Bush had made energy independence one of his main objectives...and couldn’t get anywhere in the ‘just say no’ Democrat-led Congress

Give McCain credit? The idiot was forced into into flipping his flopped position! Forced by the realization the American people are coming to their senses about our resources since their wallets are being drained!

The following, in one form or another, has been sent over the last few months to VP Cheney, the White House, and several news outlets. It took a while, but some of it is coming to fruition.

My Energy Manifesto:

* Cease all ethanol-fuel production. It takes away from food production and the unintended consequence is higher food costs. As diesel prices go up, the cost of farming tips the balance of cost to make ethanol a bad idea. Just say "no" to ethanol! Even Jimmy Carter says that diverting farm production from food to fuel is dumb – even HE gets it. This will create only ONE "blend" of gasoline and will cease regional "boutique" blends (gasohols) which are stupid, costly, and meaningless. Trucking custom blends around the country is wasteful. Ethanol blends may actually lead to fewer miles to the gallon, and adds to the cost of production and transportation. Newer cars do not need oxygenated fuels.

* Lift the restrictions in order to drill for oil in Alaska, Gulf of Mexico, and other sites in the CONUS as a matter of national security.

* Encourage the petro industry to construct state-of-the-art refineries and/or retrofit current and dormant ones and crank up production for our newly-accessed oil in the CONUS.

* Make all “carbon credit” scams unlawful. Discrediting Algore should have been a slam-dunk a long time ago. Stop electing Reps who buy into the Global Warming / Global Cooling / Climate Change Hoax. CO2 is not our enemy!

* Construct SEVERAL, regional Pebble-Bed Modular Reactors (or other similar modern designs) that are rechargeable, and cleaner than any current nuclear generator design. Refine spent nuke fuel for recycling. DO SOMETHING NUCLEAR to resolve energy problems.

* Use the residual heat from the reactors above to process motor fuel from coal and/or shale. Even though Clinton "stole" some of the best coal reserves, we still have a lot to use.

* Become independent enough to make the cartels (i.e. OPEC) inconsequential.

* Convince local taxing bodies to lift or cap the sales tax on gasoline so that as gas prices go up, the local tax collectors don’t see a windfall revenue jump at the expense of the consumer. The Federal government could compel the states (and locals) to cap the fuel taxes.

If you squint real hard, and read between the lines, the ‘manifesto’ will require fewer RINOs and LibDems and the election of some clear-minded conservatives to even consider the above.
