Malmö firefighters demand police escorts
The Local ^ | 16 Jun 08 | Claudia Rodas

Firefighters in Malmö in southern Sweden are demanding police escorts on calls. The firefighters have had enough of threats and violence in some of the city's rougher areas.

After being attacked by stones on a recent call, they are threatening not to take calls to Rosengård without a police escort. They are also demanding shatterproof windows and surveillance cameras on their vehicles.

Bertil Ahlgren, a spokesman at Jägersros fire station where two of the men worked, told TT that their work situation was "completely unacceptable".

The firemen were attacked twice last week during calls in the city's Rosengård suburb.

In one case a youth pelted a fireman with stones, while another fireman was attacked by a barrage of raw eggs. Attila Jensen, district chief for the Jägersros rescue services told TT that they view this very seriously.

"One shouldn't need to find oneself under a stoning attack when one is out performing one's job".

Attacks on rescue services staff and police have increased in recent years, but so far there is no central data recording the incidents. Kenneth Carlsson, a spokesman for the firefighters' union described this trend as nasty.

"We would like to see a central register created so that we could get an overview of all the incidents".

The rescue services in southern Sweden have now agreed to put in a series of measures to improve fire fighter's working conditions, including stronger cooperation with the police, reinforced vehicle windows and the possibility of surveillance cameras.

Other more long-term measures include the recruitment of firefighters with immigrant backgrounds.

The rescue services have also put in almost three million kronor ($496,500) into a three-year research project at Malmö College to raise awareness and understanding for the reasons behind these type of attacks.

"The point is to create a better dialogue between the authorities and certain population groups", Per Olof Hallin, project manager at the Malmö College, told TT.

If that be the case, and they are attacking firefighters, coming to fires in their neighborhoods....then I say to the firemen....let the damn place burn down!

So the answer is to spend $ on "research" to "understand" these hooligan, lawbreaking "immigrants", then hire some of their thugs to join fire fighters team? Oh for pity sakes!

MSM: Dancing around the truth as usual.

We all know it is just poor immigrants who need work. For some reason they seem to burn cars or attack firefighters.

There is the first hint as to WHO is behind the attacks. Save the money on the 3 year study to figure it out. As for solving the problem, assuming its not too late, you’ll need to kick them, all of them, out of the country ASAP. Either that, or try giving them land so they won’t kill you for a few more years. You haven’t done anything wrong, they just hate you. Deal with it or die.

Unlikely, the housing is probably provided by the government for free, burn it down, get another one, no big deal.

(... banging head against wall ...)

No, genius, the point is to not let "certain population groups" that have no respect for civilized society into your country in the first place.

Unless Sweden and other European countries wake up and decide to take their culture back by rounding up and DEPORTING every camel-humping Muslim animal back to its Third World hellhole of origin, they're screwed. Never mind trying to put out fires: may as well let the whole country burn down, because that's what 'multiculturalism' and 'diversity' have wrought on their society. Plain and simple.

Dead wrong. During the 16th and 17th Centuries -- definitely post-Viking -- Sweden was an important military power. Do a search on "Gustavus Adolphus" for details.

Well that is what normal people would think but.......hubby retired 3 yrs ago, 33 yrs as a firefighter. Was a Captain of a 3 man crew in one of our local ‘immigrant’ (illegals) towns.
They had a drive-by shooting at the station. They had beers thrown at the engine as they cruised an alley between bars. They were issued, and wore, bullet proof vests. He worked that station (busiest in the county) for about 10 yrs. He used to tell people he worked in Lamont, where murder is still a misdemeanor.
Yes there are places like that in the good ole USA.

That’s just stupid. The firefighters should not demand police escorts.

They should (a) refuse to enter those areas or (b) demand military escort, preferably US marine if some applicable treaty can be invoked. (Not that our guys should have to go, but make it a voluntary post? Think Swedish Bikini Team as an incentive.)

Not quite since Viking times, which ended circa 1000 AD. I seem to recall a certain Swedish king kicking up a ruckus in Germany almost 650 years later. Fella by the name of Gustavus Adolphus...

Oh, it's been a much more recent thing. For example:
Gustav II Adolf (Gustav II Adolf / Gustavus Adolphus)
1611-1632
Died 6 November 1632, in the Battle of Lützen, definitely not a REMF type.

At the time of good-time Gustav, the Swedes were a prominent military power, and not adverse to using it.

A quick google shows a list of Swedish Military adventures, they were quite involved in the 30 Years War. http://home.swipnet.se/~w-42039/Slahist.htm

A second link shows more fighting later still, apparently started by the Swedes. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russo-Swedish_War_(1788-1790)

I still hold out no hope for their survival.

The interesting thing in their history is that they didn't go pacifist back in 1809, or so. They went neutral, as the wars their kings had drawn them into had bleed them dry.

How that armed neutrality (they do build Viggen jets, Bofors artillery, etc.) has degenerated into a silly pacifism is an interesting question, though I didn't find anything on a quick google that directly answered the question.

This is a quote that seems to relate to the Swedish view of neutrality. "When neutrality began to appear as a conception in international law it was roo ted in the view that war is a legitimate contest and that no distinction should be made between an aggressor state and the state attacked. ... international law no longer implies a sovereign right to go to war but moves towards a distinctio n between an unjust war of aggression and a just war of defense. All this means that the states attacked are not likely to look upon impartial neutrality as a matter of course and a proper standard of conduct."
http://www.jstor.org/pss/2703569

I don't know how much credence to put on www.jstor.org, but it does match what other history I've read.

It seems to me that the psychology of Swedish neutrality, and their sense of superiority about it is reminescent of the Amish and they rejection of things like buttons. Buttons were related to the military back when the Amish started, but it's kind of silly and a useless distinction now I would think. Likewise the Swedish obsession with neutrality that once extended to only foreign wars, has become downright suicidal when applied to the current insurrection they face.

My Grandparents, now departed, lived in Malmo. From annnual visits I watched it go from a nice Swedish city to having parts look like French suburbs.
Between the Muslim rape gangs and the general crime, I am shocked at the influx of Danes thinking it will be a nice suburb of Copenhagen.

Hmmm.

In other Swedish news, we have this;

Sweden approves wiretapping law

Sweden's parliament has approved controversial new laws allowing authorities to spy on cross-border e-mail and telephone traffic.

The country's intelligence bureau will be able to scan international calls, faxes and e-mails.

The measure was passed by a narrow majority after a heated debate in the Stockholm parliament.

Critics say it threatens civil liberties and represents Europe's most far-reaching eavesdropping plan.

"By introducing these new measures, the Swedish government is following the examples set by governments ranging from China and Saudi Arabia to the US government's highly criticised eavesdropping programme," said Peter Fleischer, of Google.

Checks and balances

But those who support the plans say such measures are needed to protect national security from those increasingly using such technology to plan attacks.

The government insists that it will filter out domestic communication and monitor only international calls, faxes and messages.

Some experts insist that it is impossible to differentiate between domestic and international traffic.

Under the new law, Sweden's intelligence bureau will no longer need a court order to begin surveillance, unlike the police.

The former head of the country's intelligence agency, Saepo, said the law failed to safeguard individual rights and should be scrapped.

"I think the law needs to be re-written. It is not enough to create a few checks and balances... It is the law itself, there is something wrong with it," Anders Eriksson told Swedish radio ahead of the vote.
