Poll: Obama leads McCain in swing states

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Sen. Barack Obama is leading Sen. John McCain in the crucial swing states of Ohio, Pennsylvania and Florida, according to a new survey.

Obama lost the Democratic primary in Pennsylvania by 9 percentage points. But a Quinnipiac University poll released Wednesday shows him leading McCain by 12 points, 52 to 40 percent.

In Ohio, a state Obama lost to Sen. Hillary Clinton by 10 points in March, he's leading McCain 48 to 42 percent.

And in Florida, where he did not campaign this primary season and lost an unsanctioned Democratic contest, he leads McCain 47 to 43 percent.

The Ohio and Florida results are reversals from Quinnipiac polls published a month ago, when Clinton was still in the race and McCain led Obama in hypothetical match-ups.

In the waning days of her campaign, Clinton argued to voters and superdelegates that she should be the nominee because she was the stronger candidate to beat McCain in these swing states during the general election.

Democrats in all three swing states say they'd like to see her on the ballot this fall, but independent voters give the idea a thumbs-down by margins of 9 to 16 percent.

Keith Olbermann was playing this up tonight, which is weird since when Obama was BEHIND for the last 2 months in the Quinnipiac University poll of these swing states, ah, Keith didn't know it.

Someone should let him know he can throttle back a bit, he's already a shoe in for that minster of propaganda job in the Obama administration.

As for the polls? they stink.

Now the phony polls for Obama come out to try and shore up support for him. As much as 30 to 40% of Hillary supporters will not vote for him. Research PUMA, NOBAMA and dozens more of democratic voters springing up everywhere. The rural white vote, Hispanic, Asian and Jewish vote will not go to him. McCain will trounce Obama.

I wonder if some of these early polls are phony? In past years early polls frequently favor the Democrats.

I remember in 1976, Jimmy Carter was about 30 points ahead of President Ford right after the convention. Jimmy won, but it was one of the closest elections in American History.

In 1980, polls all through summer and fall showed Jimmy slightly ahead or tied with Reagan. Reagan won in a landslide.

In 1984, Mondale was tied in polls in the summer with Reagan. Reagan won a landslide.

In 1988, Dukakis was 17 points ahead of Bush 41. Bush won over 400 electoral votes, in close to a landslide.

I just remember these off the top of my head; others may know other polling data early on that turned out to be way off the actual results.

But if you are skeptical, you would think that liberal leaning pollsters would put out polls showing their man doing better than he really is, to try to change voters perceptions.

You can't get an accurate poll during the summer much like you can't get an accurate poll over the weekends.

Republicans are away enjoying a hard earned vacation camping, fishing, touring the national treasures. There's so much to do it's mind-boggling.

Democrats are hermits dwelling in their parents basements smoking dope, scoffing down ding-dongs and posting hysterics about the economy to Leftist websites when the truth is they never paid a single bill in their whole miserable exsistence.

So you can't get an accurate poll in summer because Republicans are away while Democrats are pouncing on their ringing phone eager the justify their presence on earth.

They are not going to get the Hispanic, non liberal White, Asian or most of the male vote, so I don’t know where these polls are getting their information from.

IMO people are sick of polls and lie on purpose to people taking them these days.

Polls aren’t accurate.

I like it. The more they fool the rats into believing in Obama's strength as a candidate, the less likely Hillary will have a chance to mount a fight at the convention. The more "bitter" her supporters will be. Obama is "Carter Redux" win or lose...

Quincy’s poll are crap, they claim that Bush has around 22% approval ratings in all three States. I believe his approval is closer to 28%, nothing to cheer about but higher than Quincy’s numbers. Mac probably has very small leads in FLA and OH among Most Likely To Vote, but he is probably down by 7 - 8 points in PA if you use the same measure.

I am sure they called people only in government subsidized housing at 10:00 AM on Father’s Day and ask to speak to the head of the house. You’d have to lean a poll sample that much to give Obama a lead in PA.

Polls aren't going to mean squat this political season.

Obama's numbers will be inflated by voters who respond in his favor simply because they don't want to be perceived as "racists" by the pollster.

This phenomenon has been noted in every minority run for high office -- e.g., Wilder in Virginia, Jindal vs Blank-oh in Louisiana.

The media, of course, will make much more of any favorable Obama numbers than they deserve -- consciously trying to demoralize Republican voters.

Consequently, the polls (and the reporting on them) will be close to worthless.

Yeah,I wish Rudy would be running against Obama now.He would be a much better opponent. Are you being sarcastic? After running the most INCOMPETANT campaign I have ever seen (blowing off all states for Florida) and campaigning with all the enthusiasm of a manatee, you think Greasy Rudy would be more qualified? Lets not forget his ethically bankrupt associates, his LIBERALISM, and his overall weirdness.

Only a fool or someone from Staten Island (I repeat myself here) would think that Rudy would be a "strong candidate" right now. I don't believe you are either of those, just misinformed.
