Czechs resist pressure to ratify EU treaty

The Czech Republic resisted pressure on Monday to quickly ratify the European Union's reform treaty after its defeat by Irish voters, and kept its options open on how to proceed with the charter... Czech Republic... eurosceptic President Vaclav Klaus and some others in his ruling Civic Democratic Party said the Irish vote meant the treaty was dead and should be abandoned. Prime Minister Mirek Topolanek, a Civic Democrat who signed the treaty for the Czech Republic, said there could be no hurrying a decision on how to go forward but it was clear the treaty would not enter force on January 1 next year as planned... "I do not think anybody has a completely clear idea in respect of continuing the ratification process," he said, adding the Irish vote had to be respected the same way the French and Dutch referendums which killed a previous treaty in 2005. The Civic Democrats have sent the treaty to the Constitutional Court, expected to rule on it around September... European foreign ministers were meeting in Brussels on Monday to start picking up pieces of the Irish vote, and the overwhelming opinion was that the ratification should continue... France and Germany have pressed other countries to go ahead with ratification to keep up momentum during the French presidency of the EU in the second half of this year. The Czechs will hold the rotating presidency for the first half of 2009.

President Vaclav Klaus wants to check the Euro Treaty/Constitution against the Czech Constitution

We, the citizens of the Czech Republic in Bohemia, Moravia, and Silesia, at the time of the renewal of an independent Czech state, being loyal to all good traditions of the ancient statehood of Czech Crown's Lands and the Czechoslovak State, resolved to build, protect and develop the Czech Republic in the spirit of the inviolable values of human dignity and freedom, as the home of equal and free citizens who are conscious of their duties towards others and their responsibility towards the whole, as a free and democratic state based on the respect for human rights and the principles of civic society, as part of the family of European and world democracies, resolved to jointly protect and develop the inherited natural and cultural, material and spiritual wealth, resolved to abide by all time-tried principles of a law-observing state, through our freely elected representatives, adopt this Constitution of the Czech Republic.

LMFAO - now the charter doesn’t only contain anti - anti - abortion law and anti peating law now it will also prohibit voting.

I bet it also contains a law that every chech has to wear his underpants as a hat.

A respectable ammount of bovine excrements are attributed to a paper work that was made to strengthen local parliaments influnce on brussels and to build up economic freedom.

He’s better than most politicians here. He’s challanged the GoreBall to a debate on GoreBall Warming.

How many politicians here have done that?

Czech president says EU's Lisbon treaty finished - Jun 13, 2008 - "The Lisbon treaty project ended today with the decision of the Irish voters and its ratification cannot be continued. ...The result is hopefully a clear message to everybody. It is a victory of freedom and reason over artificial elitist projects and European bureaucracy." - Vaclav Klaus

Thanks! The desperation of the fascists shows, as someone noted — there was an attempt to make it illegal to oppose ratification, a profoundly anti-democratic (and therefore, profoundly European) reaction.
