"We can't drill our way out of the problem." Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama has said it. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has said it. It's one of those bromides sincerely repeated by Democrats with such conviction that for years left-leaning audiences duly nodded their heads, never questioning whether the truism was indeed true.
Until gasoline leaped above the $4-a-gallon mark.
Now some polls show that Americans support more domestic drilling. President Bush seized the moment Wednesday when he asked Congress to lift its ban on offshore drilling.
Even Republican presidential candidate John McCain has seen the light. A long-time opponent of drilling off the coasts of California and Florida, as well as in Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, McCain has come out in favor of lifting the oil-exploration ban off the coasts. Economic adviser Douglas Holtz-Eakin told the New York Times that McCain had supported the drilling moratorium until 2006, when Washington and Gulf Coast states reached a compromise that permitted some offshore oil-and-gas exploration.
I don't care how McTeam tries to package it, McCain has flip-flopped on off-shore drilling - and it's about time.
For too long, McCain talked like a Democrat. He was in favor of greater energy independence, of reductions in greenhouse gas emissions and of no new drilling off the coasts or in ANWR - and cheap gasoline. To believe all that is possible in this global market, you essentially have to believe in a good energy fairy.
When gas prices exceeded $4 per gallon, McCain, like many taxpayers, hit the tipping point where he could no longer afford the romanticized view that oil should only be pumped from yucky places.
...Why does McCain believe in states' rights for Californians and Floridians, but not Alaskans,

So if we vote for the “dipstick” we can expect more of samo samo-with all that entails.
We can’t solve hunger by growing food.
We can’t work our way out of poverty.
All is lost.
Woe is me.
“We can’t drill our way out of the problem.” Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama has said it.
::::::
And the Obamination is a dangerous lying fool. As any critical thinker knows, sourcing more of our own crude can be a huge step toward energy independence and a significant reduction of our security risks given we source much of our crude FROM ENEMIES.
Because he doesn't believe in it at all. He is attempting to score a few political points and gain some voters. That is all.
While his "current position" on offshore drilling is the correct one, I am skeptical of his actual support and more so his ability to articulate support for it in debates and when questioned by reporters.
He also said: "This war is LOST!" So maybe he should have the decency to be shamed into silence about what we can and cannot accomplish.
“Because he doesn’t believe in it at all. He is attempting to score a few political points and gain some voters. That is all.”
Yes but due to Obamaphobia, many conservatives (myself included) are far too willing to be lied to and played for a fool. If that man keeps up this charade AND picks a conservative VP? He’s a shoe-in.
We can’t HOPE our way out of this mess!
I guess that's another fundamental difference between libs and conservatives, between 'Rats and 'Pubs. One is always saying what we can't do, the other is focusing on things we can do. I just wish the sheeple would see and understand this when they go to the polls.
How can a rational and intelligent person not see the connection between “energy independence” and expanding and developing all of the potential sources of energy that we possess? Oh, I know. I assumed rational and intelligent.
He'll need to do just a few more flip-flops first: on ANWR, Guantanamo, and illegal immigrant amnesty. But he seems to be getting... more spry ... now, isn't he? ;)
We cant drill our way out of the problem. Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama has said it.”
He also said, “We cant drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times..”
I’d like to hear someone ask Obambi if he favors the lowering of our standard of living through high energy prices.
So, “We can’t drill our way out of this problem.” Right? Besides the fact that we can; If we were starving as a result of a shortage of food or it being too expensive. Would we not be able to farm our way out of starvation? The obvious answer is yes.
So whenever you hear somebody say “We can’t drill our way out of this problem.” Question either their sincerity, their intellect, or their motives. And if said by a Washington politician, question all three.
As for McCain’s “flip flop,” I call real CHANGE. Or CHANGE you can believe in. What say you, Barack Obama?
Post of the day. Throw that right back at them.
The money line...
Not his nor any congresscritters however!
