WASHINGTON, D.C. —

In the wake of Tim Russert’s death, Brian Williams will host NBC’s “Meet the Press” this Sunday, Access Hollywood has learned.

Russert had hosted the political forum since 1991, making him the longest serving host of the program.

Russert, the NBC News Washington Bureau Chief, died on June 13 inside the bureau. He was 58.

Although Williams, who is currently the anchor of “NBC Nightly News,” will moderate the program, no decisions on a permanent replacement have been made.

Among the names speculated as a possible successor to Russert include Williams, Andrea Mitchell, David Gregory, Chris Matthews, Keith Olbermann, Katie Couric, and perhaps Tom Brokaw as a temporary replacement though the November presidential election.

“Meet the Press” is the longest running series in TV history, having been running on the air continuously since 1947.

I don’t know whether its Williams or Russet that ticked me off more, theyre both a bunch of sniveling liberals.... Russet was a tad smarter, so maybe it was Williams.

This I will believe when I see it.

But since MTP was all about opposition research, which was done by staff, I doubt it will make much difference.

Williams is the dimmest bulb in the pack, tho.

Wonder what Brokaw is going to say about this.

Fawning eyebrows Williams is disgusting. He the master of: “many people believe...”, “undisclosed sources have said...”, “ polls have shown that...”. He’s the King of Hyperbole.

I don’t think there’s anybody there who could fill Russert’s shoes. He was actually a real journalist. The rest of them are nothing but purveyors of marxist propaganda.

It is a recognition that the NBC News brand has NO bench. Russert was a liberal, but he was to the right of Olberman, Mathews, and Lauer. Williams is probably every bit as liberal as Lauer, but he was just an anchor who has not had the opportunity to yet define himself. Now, he will. I predict this boy is in WAY over his head.

Brian has to spend a lot of time preparing for his evening news reading job (like hair styling, makeup, pronunciation, etc.). He would hardly have time to also prepare for the tough questioning at MTP. You would think they would chose an obvious non-partisan for the job. People like John Kerry, Michael Moore, Chris Dodd, and Barbara Streisand come to mind.

Tim Russert maintained the MTP standard set 6 decades ago.

IMHO there is NO ONE on the list of replacements remotely qualified to fill Russert's shoes nor up to the MTP standards.

MTP may go on but it will never be the same.

I was very impressed with Luke Russert as well, considering that he’s probably as liberal as his daddy was—at least they seem honorable and dignified for liberals, unlike a lot of these other boneheads.

It will be interesting to watch him ‘grow up’ and see what career path he takes. He seems to have his dad’s gift for speaking publicly though.

Agree. MSNBC has his Monday morning interview. It went on for 5-8 minutes, at least. Completely poised though obviously hurting, very articulate. He just grew up fast. The loss of a father, no matter when it occurs. is traumatic. But Tim was there for Luke's formative years, when it was most crucial. And Tim did a darn good job.

It just shows you how important a father /son relationship is in forming young men. Let’s be honest boys need a loving dad. Tim and his wife obviously did a great job raising Luke. He’s a very impressive young man.

Assuming you're referring to Olberman, he would be perfect.

It would change the program from a "pretend fair journalistic dialogue," to a reality show about a wierded out, hate filled, leftist demagogue in on-air self-distruct mode.
