WASHINGTON — More than 30,000 firearms are unaccounted for in gun dealers’ inventories nationwide, according to a new study by a gun control group.
Further, the group, the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence, says its finding most likely undercounts the missing firearms, since the data used, from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, are drawn from the compliance inspections that were conducted at gun dealerships in the 2007 fiscal year. Just 10,000 dealers were inspected, one-sixth of the nation’s total.

End the DROS and end licensing of FFLs. Buy guns over the counter at hardware stores like pre-1968 (pre-1934 if I had my way). No more 4473 forms. Nothing. But the BATFE out of business.

Yes, and as an afterthought, maybe it should have been the First Amendment :-)

The quote from Admiral Yamamoto (of the Japanese Imperial Fleet, at the planning of their attack on Pearl Harbor) most aptly illustrates the purpose of the 2nd Amendment: “It is impossible to invade America. There would be a gun behind every blade of grass.”
Of course, if Obama and other Bolsheviks get their way, that would change.

i find this hard to believe.
gun shop owners paid for the guns,
so i doubt that they’d allow them to leave their inventories unpaid.

We all know that Sarah Brady, like Cindy Sheehan, is using the misfortune of a loved one to further their leftist agenda.

Stop right there. It is all lies and propaganda.Even the rebuttals from both the NRA and BATFE?
Any way, letting the Brady Bunch spew their nonsense should help motivate RKBA types to vote effectively against the left in November. When so many are saying they will stay home or throw their vote away because of McCain's imperfections, they need to be reminded. The left kept pretty mum about gun control in 2006, and they took both Houses in Congress back. So what does the admin moderator do? The story was removed from the frontpage sidebar.

No one in America should place any faith in any alleged study coming from the Brady campaign, said Andrew Arulanandam, a spokesman for the N.R.A. Works for me. BTT.

Aren’t there something on the order of 5 MILLION firearms traded and sold each year? .007% loss? These guys need to teach Wal-Mart a few tricks.

If anyone is breaking the law, they ought to be charged criminally, Mr. Arulanandam said. There are plenty of laws on the books that address that issue, and all that needs to be done is those laws need to be enforced. And, yes, this part is and always has been true. The Brady Bunch and the rest know it, too. Enforcing the laws we already have on the books does not meet with the ultimate agenda, however, to just simply outlaw firearms for you and me - period.

"A spokesman for the firearms bureau, Nicholas Colucci, said that in his experience, many gun dealers did take inventory annually or even more frequently, although not required to do so by federal law.
Mr. Colucci also said shops from which most of the 30,000 weapons were missing had since gone out of business, some because their licenses had been revoked as a result of the inspections. No firearms were missing, he added, at 90 percent of the inspected businesses."
I can't believe I'm saying this, but this article from the NY Times is pretty fair reporting. Both sides were actually presented. If I were this reporter, I'd be worried about my job since he/she did not put the usual liberal slant on the story.
To: neverdem
Even if the stats are true, that represents one gun gone missing every two years for each average dealer.

We used to have an antique firearms dealer here in St.Paul about 8 years ago. The local leftist urban coalition was trying to force him out any way they could. 1st it was trying to change zoning laws. then it was claiming he sold to gang members(yep. lot of gang bangers want Civil War era weapons). Finally they claimed he didn't have a good enough security system after he was robbed. The robber turned out to be the kid of one of the leftist's who just happened to have a blueprint of the alarm system related to their previous bogus zoning claims.
These anti-gun people are shameless, lying, cowards.
