INDIANAPOLIS -- Three Indianapolis Metropolitan Police officers accused of running a marijuana distribution ring resigned from the department Thursday evening.

A statement released by IMPD said the three submitted their handwritten resignations in jail after being served with notices that the chief was moving to fire them.

Federal investigators said James D. Davis, 33, Robert B. Long, 34, and Jason P. Edwards, 37, used their jobs as police officers to divert marijuana and the cash from illegal drug sales for their own use.

An indictment unsealed Tuesday charged the three with using fake search warrants to enter private homes and apartments, and it said other times they just broke in to private property.

The officers face counts of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm during a drug trafficking offense. Each could receive a maximum 20 years in prison and a $1 million fine if convicted.

Yeah, when they run in packs, it is a little disturbing.

The linked story and two previous links had no pictures.

Gosh, could there be a racial dimension to this crime?

Had to click back to 10 March to find one pic of one defendant.

Those men have no officer qualities. They are thugs. Always been, always will be.

As a police officer when I see stories like this, and especially when I see pictures of the individuals, one of the first things I ask myself is: What hiring standards does that police department have?
I mean, holy crap, either those guys were super-spy-moles like Matt Damon in The Departed movie, or as I suspect, the Indianapolis Police Dept. hires just about anybody off the street to be a cop with no psych eval and no criminal history checks.
Nothing like these idiots giving me a bad name.

I always thought nobody would hate a bad cop more than another cop, and it always amazes me when some cops will come on threads like this one and defend any kind of criminal behavior by a bad cop. One bad cop can turn hundreds of people into cop haters. I’m very glad you’re an exception, and I suspect most LEOs are the same.

Does the term “AFFIRMATIVE ACTION”? come to mind?
Back during VN a lot of inner city yutes went into the Military because they thought they could to the “Golden Triangle” and get into the export business for the stocking of their ‘business ventures’.
This was part of McNamara’s 100,000, almost as big a disaster as the CONTINUED use of Affirmative Action....

The simplest method of fixing problems like this....is urine samples on a unscheduled basis. Once you let a guy know that he could be called a dozen times a year, with only 90 minutes notice to come and give a sample....they all start fixing their issues. I’ll guarantee you that none of these guys arrested...have had a urine sample done while working on the police force. If you took a sample...they’d all fail.

I watched this in the late 1970s in the Air Force. Once they came back with the sampling business...they really cleaned up a huge mess.
