Russia's Foreign Minister Warns Against Attacking Iran

MOSCOW (AFP)--Russia's foreign minister Friday said there was no proof Iran is developing nuclear weapons and warned unilateral action against the country risked repeating the mistakes of the invasion of Iraq.

"We have been repeatedly asking our American and Israeli colleagues, who insist that Iran...is engaged in making a nuclear bomb, to provide factual information to those assertions. So far we have seen none," Sergei Lavrov said in a speech in Moscow.

"The same conclusion has been made by the International Atomic Energy Agency," he said.

Responding to a warning earlier this month by Israeli Deputy Prime Minister Shaul Mofaz that Israel could attack Iranian installations if Iran refused to halt its nuclear program, Lavrov urged Israel to act responsibly.

"We must be responsible for our policies, especially policies which touch upon the...territorial integrity of others countries. They must be based on facts," he said.

"You remember the facts, the so-called facts, which were presented before Iraq was attacked," he said, in reference to faulty U.S. intelligence used to justify the 2003 invasion of Iraq.

Russia has repeatedly cast doubt on Western accusations that Iran is seeking to possess nuclear weapons under the cover of a civil nuclear energy program.

In May, the IAEA expressed "serious concern" that Iran is still hiding information about alleged studies into making nuclear warheads and defying U.N. demands to suspend uranium enrichment.

risk the mistakes we made in iraq, and those would be...overthrowing the regime, destroying the military, establishing a democratic country, removing said country from the terrorist watch list, and developing an ally in the middle east.... ok, let’s do it

The Rooskies also had intelligence, which was given to the President, that showed WMD in Iraq.

Russia's foreign minister Friday said there was no proof Iran is developing nuclear weapons...

Sure. Either he is being intentionally mendacious or he means that others are developing the nukes for Iran.

""We have been repeatedly asking our American and Israeli colleagues, who insist that Iran...is engaged in making a nuclear bomb, to provide factual information to those assertions."

Stop right there! It works the other way around. Iran, as part of the NPT, is required to allow full inspections. The onus is on Iran, not the USA or Israel.

Of course Iran’s business partner doesn’t want them to be attacked.

Empty rhetoric.

Nothing to see here.

Exactly.

Sergei is either delusional or he’s get a cut of all the big fat contacts between Iran and Russia.

Sergei, your gravy train is going to end in the near future.....

He probably doesn’t want the killings of any of the Tudah Commie pigs that have been mucking things up in Iran since the revolution. Not that they would be involved in nuclear proliferation in any chaotic nation/state. Nahwwww just the paranoids dreamings of some fiction novelists.

Bet Israel ain’t buying it though.

As much as I would like to see Israel kick Iran’s ass, I worry it could be the beginning of the end. I guess as a Christian I’m suppose to look forward to it.

The Russians are still POed that we kicked their asses in the Cold War. They are looking for revenge by undermining us in any way they can and helping our enemies in any way they can. The US needs to tell them to go to hell.

Gog and the Prince of Persia are on the same team...why should we be surprised? Take a look-see at Ezekiel chapters 38-40. Ends ugly for the Russo-Iran alliances and their evil plans. Beginning of the end...for them!
