Brokaw to lead 'Meet the Press'
Politico ^ | 6-22-08 | Staff

Tom Brokaw will replace Tim Russert as moderator of NBC’s “Meet the Press” through the November presidential election, the network announced today.

Brokaw, 68, filled in for the first post-Russert week. “NBC Nightly News” anchor Brian Williams was the host today, and revealed Russert's interim successor during the broadcast.

NBC News President Steve Capus said: "A lot has been said in recent days about what 'Meet the Press' means to NBC News and to the nation. To have someone of Tom's stature step up and dedicate himself to ensuring its ongoing success is not only a testament to his loyalty to Tim, but his enduring commitment to NBC News and our viewers."

NBC’s plans for a successor to Russert, who died two weeks ago after collapsing at the network’s Washington bureau, have been the subject of hot speculation. The interim plan gives network executives time to figure out how to preserve the show’s prestige and profitability for the long run.

The show’s executive producer, Betsy Fischer, said: "Some of my best memories from covering the last several presidential elections have included working closely with Tom, so I know just how lucky we are to have him step in as moderator for ‘Meet the Press.’ His intellect, focus and calming presence is exactly what we need to move forward smartly and remain the No. 1 public affairs show on television as we head into one of the most pivotal elections in our nation's history."......."

??? If only because it is not quite as bad a choice as selecting Cris Matthews? Still have a biased moderator.

I stopped watching MTP a few years back when Hitlery got a major lovefest from Russert. I do not plan to start watching again, especially with that jerk Brokejaw there.

It’s all about opposition research and it seems that when Russert wanted to spread the trash around he sent tidbits to others to report on their stations.

Of course, the trash he wanted spewed always seemed to be against the republicans.

I’m thrilled with Tom’s selection. Tom is an Excellent choice. With that said, he is head and shoulders above Prissy Chrissy, Kittty Oberflush, Danny Blather and Perky Colonic!
But for full time after Nov.4th, Lets have Brett Hume and/or Michael Savage;-P

I guess the “A” list anchor talent gets created at the rate of about one person every 35 years, across a population of nearly 300 million people.

The “future presidents” bench is much deeper than the “future satisfactory-to-the-networks anchors” bench.

"This is a sharp move on NBC's part I am sorry to say."

Is there any other person in the entire employ of NBC that is not overtly partisan? At least Brokaw attempts to hide it. No one else does. They will have to go outside their ranks after November if they want to pretend to be neutral.

It must chap a lot of asses at NBC to have Browkaw come out of retirement to do this. That is a big “Scew You” to a lot of NBC talent.

"Dang. I was rooting for Olbermann." To tell the truth, I was too. I wanted either Olberman or the spitting and drooling Krissy Matthews to get the chair and show America what liberals are really like in time to help bring some sense to the undecided voters.

Now we just have a completely biased democrat interviewing everyone from a democrat point of view just like the last completely biased democrat interviewing everyone from a democrat point of view.

--- Awww shucks.

and after the November election NBC will cease to exist.

Actually, I think that the permanent host for “Meet the Press” should be decided by a duel between Chris Matthews and Keith Olbermann......staged at the Hidden Iman well in Qom using tactical nuclear weapons.

Yeah, real sharp if you want half your audience nodding off by the first break. Brokaw has a all the charisma of a wet mop.

He’s 68 years old. Good grief. Is on air talent truly that hard to find.

No way will it be Brit Hume. He hardly ever interviews anyone. He did a fluff piece with GWB a while back, but on FOX News, Chris Wallace is the closest thing to Tim Russert. He uses the same style, presenting quotes or video clips and asking them to respond. He's polite and genial, but he asks pointed questions. I don't think Brit's asked a tough question since he was on the WH beat decades ago. No offense to Brit, he's a likable guy. But he doesn't fit the job decription.

I don't think it'll be Chris Wallace either, but I think of anyone on FOX, he'd be the best choice.
