Carla Bruni admits she 'has problems'with conservative Nicolas Sarkozy

French first Lady Carla Bruni-Sarkozy has admitted being "instinctively Left-wing" and having a problem with "conservatives" despite her husband's Right wing politics, in a frank newspaper interview.

The Italian supermodel turned singer expressed relief that her husband, President Nicolas Sarkozy, had toned down his "bling-bling" love of chunky watches and Ray-Ban sunglasses in favour of her "more austere tastes."

She also admitted organising dinners with artists to "cultivate" her husband, a TV-addict whose musical tastes stop at Elvis Presley and his French equivalent, Johnny Hallyday.

"Perhaps I can help him to enable him to better communicate on the things that he loves, to give more room to culture," she said. The Italian supermodel turned singer

"My instinctive reflexes are Left wing ... I am not joined at the hip with (my husband's) politics," she went on. "I get the impression that people who are completely one side or another only think with one part of their brain."

But despite their political differences, she added: "If he ever stood for election again, I would still vote for him."

She’s not with him for his politics, he’s not with her for her brains. Sounds like a fair deal.

Nick should send her to a Muslim part of town to live for a while to get her instincts in order.

In an exclusive interview in the far Left newspaper Liberation, Carla added “But my husband doesn’t correspond to the idea I had of conservatives. He is not conservative at all. Nor does correspond to a large chunk of those people who make up his party,” she said.”

It is only a question of time.

> It has been claimed that Carla Bruni was involved with Louis Bertignac, Mick Jagger (Jagger's wife acknowledged his affair with Bruni was a reason for their separation), Eric Clapton, Donald Trump, Léos Carax, Charles Berling, Arno Klarsfeld, Vincent Perez and former French Prime Minister Laurent Fabius.

Baby, baby, I've been so sad since you've been gone
way back to New York City
where you do belong
Honey, I missed your two tongue kisses,
legs wrapped around me tight
If I ever get back to Fun City, girl,
I'm gonna make you scream all night.

Honey, honey, call me on the telephone,
I know you're movin' out to Hollywood
with your can of tasty foam
All those beat up friends of mine
got to get you in their books
And lead guitars and movie stars
get their toes beneath your hook.

Yeah! You're a star f**ker, star f**ker, star f**ker, star f**ker, star
yeah, a star f**ker, star f**ker, star f**ker, star f**ker, star,
a star f**ker, star f**ker, star f**ker, star f**ker star.

(Lyrics from "Star, Star" by the Ronlling Stones)

I couldn’t marry somebody of an opposite ideology, no matter how hot they are. He should’ve just spent 6 months or so shagging her rotten and then moved on to a nice, respectable (and hot) right-winger. :-)

I would be VERY lonely if I limited myself to women of the right in my part of the world. Interestingly enough most of the conservative women I have spent time with have been from outside the US (Iran, India, and Peru).

I could not do it either.

I think those idealogies should be important enough that it matters to you if your spouse understands where you are coming from. I would be hurt if I married someone who had contempt for christianity or conservatism.

For the life of me, I cannot imagine putting up with a guy who wore an OBama t shirt and talked about the great ‘changes’ that were coming.

Maybe for a few years but eventually I would burn all his Obama merchandise and put the ashes and the rest of his belonings in a box outside in the driveway and lock allthe doors.

lol. yep. that’s me too exactly, although I’d only last about 6 weeks. That is the documented time where the raging hormones begin to soften in a
‘relationship’. Truth be told theses days I could probably only handle him for a couple of nights tops. I dig my conservative men :-). The liberal men are the worst misogynists around and rarely have class and manners.

I like men who believe in honor and duty. Who have some sort of standards and are god fearing.

I also like men who do believe in true love and finding one woman for life.

I also think men should know how to fire a gun well. I don’t know how to fire a gun so maybe this is hypocrisy *laughs*. Anyway, I think that is a skill a guy should have.

Bingo. I'd feel as though I were being undermined. For some people, the politics (and the religion) are somewhat minor issues (indeed, some guys have a benchmark that their women have to root for the same sports teams, and if they don't, it ain't gonna work. That to me is really ridiculous) so that won't matter so much, but for me, we have to be on the same page with a lot of the ideological stuff at least 85% of the time or it's gonna get ugly really fast.

"For the life of me, I cannot imagine putting up with a guy who wore an OBama t shirt and talked about the great ‘changes’ that were coming."

Changes like he'll be sleeping on the sofa and talking to the hand if he wants his jollies.

"Maybe for a few years but eventually I would burn all his Obama merchandise and put the ashes and the rest of his belonings in a box outside in the driveway and lock allthe doors."

No, no. Don't burn it. Sell it. You wouldn't believe what the Obama crap sells for on eBay. Take the money and donate it to your right-wing candidate of choice (or Bob Jones University) in your guy's name. ;-D

It's easy to learn to shoot - and it's a ton of fun.

If you go down to the range and sign up for a class, you'll have conservative guys lining up to teach or practice with you.

And you'll meet lots of good people, especially if you wind up competing in some form of match shooting. The Cowboy Action people here are as nice as folks could be - salt of the earth, funny, generous, kind. It's the same way with the retriever training people, although the guns there are kind of peripheral (we do have a Sporting Clays shoot every August). I think folks who enjoy a sport enough to get together and train or compete tend to be worth getting to know.

Well...only on stuff that doesn’t really matter, like Supreme Court nominees....

Thank goodness for conservatives who stood up to Laura and sent that b*&^($ packing. What was her name? Harriet, or something like that. In any event, she’s long gone and NOT on the court. Thanks, but no thanks, Laura. Next time, focus on your library stuff.

Laura is a lovely lady, so as long as she doesn’t get mixed up in political decisions, who cares? As far as we know, she did so only once. She and Andy Card were the insider proponents of Harriet Miers, and she made a bit of a fool of herself insulting the base on TV, saying that anyone who objected was a stupid, right-wing woman-hater.

But that nomination was shot down, as soon as Bush recovered his common sense, so there’s no point in holding it against her. No harm done.

Most of us have the greatest respect for Barbara Bush, as well, although she appears to have been in favor of a woman’s “right to choose.” As long as she didn’t call the shots, it’s better ignored. I don’t think Bush senior was a strong pro-lifer either, unlike his son, but he did walk the walk because (unlike McCain, I fear) he understood that his support rested on doing so.
