White Looters in Iowa (Mike S. Adams)
Townhall.com ^ | June 23, 2008 | Mike S. Adams

Posted on 06/23/2008 12:17:39 PM PDT by EveningStar

During the week after Father’s Day, I received a number of interesting emails from readers asking me to write about the dearth of looting after the recent floods in Iowa. Specifically, they wanted me to write about the reason there was so much more looting in New Orleans after Katrina hit the “Chocolate City” in 2005. Of course, the problem involves so much more than race – a factor most people are thinking about, even if they won’t admit it...

you still need to eat during a natural disaster.

Especially during sporting events you’re trying to watch on the big screen you just stole and can’t power up for some reason.

And completely aside from the issue of the impressive and beautiful music black culture has given us in the past, when was the last time you heard of a barbershop quartet being involved in putting a cap in someone's @$$?

You're suggesting that barbershop quartets are somehow reflective of mainstream "white culture" (whatever that means)? How many barbershop quartet-playing radio stations do you pick up in your neck of the woods?

My guess is that about as many whites 18-35 listen to barbershop quartets as blacks -- approximately zero, give or take.

Making racial arguments here is simply demented.

We don’t have such a rule at FR. I think we should. I use excerpts as teasers.

And what’s wrong with going to a site to get the story?

It looks like they pulled the column. Not available from your link or from Townhall.com. Must have offended too many sensitive types.

“Maybe another factor is that people have been free to leave the affected portions of Iowa”

People were free to leave NO also. They had the wherewithal to leave before they were trapped in Iowa

"If I were imprisoned in a city, I'd probably loot too."

It's amazing and sad - how ANYONE can rewrite history to rationalize one of the most criminal and uncivilized episodes in our history.

For days before the storm - the Federal Government issued WARNINGS of the impending danger---advising INCOMPETENT CITY and STATE Government (all of whom were elected by these same citizens) to LEAVE the city.

They were not "imprisoned" by anything but their own lack of initiative and DEPENDENCE upon others to care for them.

At some point -- those who wish respect, must demonstrate a character and behavior deserving respect under ANY and ALL circumstances.

Doesn't sound like they were "imprisoned" before they became marauding mobs and folks responded to keep them from entering their neighborhoods... or the storm whose warnings they ignored washed out streets and drowned the buses their ignorant Mayor never put into service...

What excuse or rationale will you offer for the NOLA thugs who were welcomed into CHARITABLE host sanctuary cities -- and immediately showed their gratitude by raising their crime rates to all time highs?

What explanation would you offer for the completely different citizen response in areas that were FAR more damaged by the full force of the storm in Mississippi and Alabama???

I live about 60 miles from CR, right on the Mississippi. Throughout all of this flooding, the only looting that I heard about was that bar-fly boosting booze from that tavern. I know that there were quite a few reporters around looking for looters/oppressed minorities/suffering children/citizens demanding government help as well as other sorts of VICTIMS but they couldn't find any so they more or less packed up shop and got the hell out of Dodge.

All areas of America are not the same. The people in this part of the country don't spend a bunch of time waiting around for the government to come in and do what we can do ourselves. I'm not saying that looting could never be a problem in these types of situations or that the government may never be needed, but it's just not the first thing that comes to mind when a "tragedy" strikes.

The idea expressed in your tagline was the beginning example for my column this week. People who assume that the law doesn't apply to them. That goes for criminal law, but it also applies to natural law, including the law of supply and demand.

Cordially,

Congressman Billybob

[Ok, I give it to you that NO has 4 times larger population, but the notion that in 120+K city is “a tightly knit community” is ludicrous. ]

You obviously are not from the midwest.

When the DC10 crashed in Sioux City, Iowa in 1989, the roads were filled with people trying to help, not loot the airport bar. My niece was a photog for the local rag and managed to get down there. Her pix were seen world wide. She later had her work stolen by the MSM.

A fellow classmate of mine at USD was in the Nat’l Guard there at that airport and had the PLEASURE of video taping the autopsies of the victims. He watched as the med. examiner pealed the body of an infant from the breast of his?her burned to death mother.

He later went insane of at least needed serious counseling. I haven't heard of him in 19 years. Closeknit, YOU BET.

".....you still need to eat during a natural disaster."

I really must ask.....

How were those thieving bastards planning to cook those TVs, Stereos, shoes, tires, cigarettes, clothes, furniture and cash -- before washing it down with all that stolen booze?

You can say that about any site.

I don’t like taking the risk either but that’s why God created pop-up blockers and anti-spyware programs.

“We all have to be PC now. I wonder why this has not been mentioned in MSM?”

No need for us to be PC. I’m sure there are river rats out in boats looting abandoned homes and businesses. Show them for the world to see

If I were imprisoned in a city, I'd probably loot too. It's not like Wal Marts were open for business -- you still need to eat during a natural disaster.

Imprisoned??? LOL. Nobody was imprisoned in NOLA. Those people and a-hole mayor all had 3 days notice that Katrina was coming and that it was going to be bad. If they'd had an iota of personal responsibility they would have gotten themselves and their children the hell out of there. But they didn't...they sat around waiting for someone to do it for them.

Imprisoned my ass.

In the Soviet Union, was stealing from someone rich considered wrong?

It probably got you a one-way ticket to Siberia. In the old Soviet Union the only rich people were government folks.

Terrific column. It’s always nice when somebody has the guts to speak simple, if difficult, truths.
I have to admit, I don’t get the title, though.
