Hero porker survives 36 days in China quake rubble

Mon Jun 23, 12:31 PM ET

A pig that survived for 36 days buried beneath rubble in quake-hit southwest China on a diet of charcoal has been hailed as a symbol of the will to stay alive, state press reported Monday.

The pig, who weighed nearly 150 kilograms (330 pounds) at the time of the magnitude-8.0 earthquake on May 12, had lost two thirds of its weight when found last week, the Chongqing Evening Post said.

"It didn't look like a pig at all when it was saved. It was as thin as a goat!" a witness told Xinhua news agency.

It won't be a challenge to make one, but finding somebody willing to eat it should be.

This reminds me of an imprisoned Irishman some time back that went on a hunger strike; where his British captors allowed him to go without eating.

That Irishman’s last act was letting the World know that those of Irish descent can survive for about forty days without food.

Hmm. Something tells me the earthquake saved him from a certain fate and the rescuers saved him from another fate. Now, fatten him up and barbecue him.

He'll be on the media circuit, attended to by numerous white-coated attendants, restored to the pink of juicy health...

...and then eaten. As was intended!

And the meal will be very very expensive. Maybe he will be auctioned to raise funds for the EQ victims.

Ironic a pig’s will to live should be celebrated by a country that forces women to abort after a first child.

After 3 weeks on a charcoal diet, it must be the only non-toxic pig in China!

Can’t eat a pig like that all at once.
