BERLIN (Reuters) - U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said on Monday the United States was determined to reach out to the Iranian people despite quarrels with their government over Tehran's nuclear ambitions.

...

"The United States has been for some time trying to reach out to the Iranian people in various ways," Rice said. Iranians could travel to Dubai to get U.S. visas, she said, but acknowledged it might not be convenient for them to do so. "We want more Iranians visiting the U.S.," she said, adding that she favoured cultural exchanges such as visits by artists and athletes. "We are determined to find ways to reach out to the Iranian people."

I wonder if Truman would have tried to get more Japanese to "visit" the US during WWII.

I used to be impressed by Ms. Rice.

I stopped being impressed during the August, 2006 Israel / Hezzbollah war because of her lackluster performance.

Just great...the Iranians are all over the place in L.A. and they want to ADD to the population.

Where’s Leonidas when we need him.

We’re all Bozos on this bus.

Rice, however, is the driver.

If Ms. Condi-the-Piano-Player had the sense that God gave a goose, she would realize that the United States and Iran are in a technical state of WAR, because the Iranians invaded, violated and occupied our embassy in Tehran in 1979, and that embassy was and remains U.S. soil.

Just because that phuckwit from Georgia didn’t have the balls to do anything except to wring his hands and hide in the Rose Garden doesn’t mean that we are not now, even damn near 30 years later, STILL in a state of war with Iran, and with their persistent and continuous provocations against the West and our ally Israel, we’ve had more than enough justification to let the bombs start falling.

Of course that would require that our current illustrious President step up to the plate and do what John Bolton has been recommending which is to wipe the deck with those Islamofascists and put an end to this diplomatic dance of the seven veils once and for all.

This will be spun as an idiot remark by Rice. However, having a somewhat academic bent, I'm sure she is struck by the sharply different attitudes of most Iranians from their out of touch, backward government. More and more The Revolution is looking like a mistake, or at best, has long lost its way.

Rice is no idiot. She is no doubt deeply frustrated with Iran, as is nearly the entire planet. She knows what the stakes are if Israel makes a strike on them, and knows that there are much better alternatives if the people can only pressure their government to move, even a little.

I am convinced that a strike on Iran could get uncontrollable in a hurry. I think the international moves today shows that everyone else is realizing this out too.

Do you really think that Israel would make a preemptive strike against Iran without first getting the 'green-light' from the Oval Office?

Are you telling me that the about 50 Muslim countries now wish Israel well? The Europeans are all telling Israel they really are OK? What is it that you see changing? All I see are Western politicians telling Israel to give in return for nothing but an empty promise of peace. Rice is one of the ones pressuring Israel.

I agree with your statements. If more Iranians VISIT us, not come to stay, they might take some useful insights and information home with them; things that will help them and their friends better understand that their leaders are full of it and are lying to them. And that we are not devils. Most of the population has had enough of The Ayotollas and their religious police goons.

Of all the folks from the middle east that I’ve met, done business with, worked with and lived near ——— the Iranians - both Muslim and Christian that I’ve known have been fine people and VERY unlike the images we see from their “leaders”.....

I deeply believe that more Iranians desire peace and cooperation with America than Jihad against America.

She’s OFF HER MEDS!

we have some 40,000 terrorists/suicide bombers in the USA and Canada already and she wants MORE?

Abbas Fakhravar, a planted infiltrator by the Islamic regime in Iran is a darling of State. AntiMullah managed to get an abstract of his Islamic MOIS (Mininstry of Information and Security) file, which clearly shows his infiltration path.

Dep. Sec. Burns (the previous one) was a total pro-Iran Dhimmi and put in place some Mullah suporters into the higher echelons of State before he was asked to leave. Including the Iran Desk chief.

Good holy grief. I rarely get worked up but this is insane.

When will we stop shooting ourselves in the foot with this liberal college professor nonsense that has crept into her attitudes as she leaves office?
