(CNN) -- A top U.S. evangelical leader is accusing Sen. Barack Obama of deliberately distorting the Bible and taking a "fruitcake interpretation" of the U.S. Constitution.
~~~
Responding to Dobson's comments Tuesday evening, Obama sharply disputed the suggestion he was distorting the Bible.
"Someone would be pretty hard pressed to make that argument," he told reporters aboard his campaign plane. "It is a speech that affirms the role of faith not just in my life but in the life of the American people, that suggests that we make a mistake by trying to push faith out of the public square."
"I do make the argument that it's important for folks like myself, who think faith is important, that we try to translate some of our concerns into universal language so we can have open and vigorous debate rather than having religion divide us," Obama said. "And I do suggest that the separation of church and state is important. But there's no, no theological work being done in that speech in terms of the Bible."
How can Obamessiah distort the Bible????? Obamessiah is the Bible.
Says the man who sat in Jeremiah Wright's church for 20 years of God Damn America sermons.
CNSNews.com) - Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) told a crowd at Hocking College in Nelsonville, Ohio, Sunday that he believes the Sermon on the Mount justifies his support for legal recognition of same-sex unions. He also told the crowd that his position in favor of legalized abortion does not make him “less Christian.”
fake Messiah does a whole lot better with the Marxist/Leninist material.
Those hill folk over in Hocking County are such forward-thinking, peace-loving types, donchaknow. Old time religion and target practice ranges moved to Perry and Tuscarawas Counties some time back.
Dr. Dobson is not an “evangelist.” He is a Ph.D. who practiced psychology for years before starting a radio show.
He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Southern California (1967) in the field of child development. For 14 years Dr. Dobson was an Associate Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Southern California School of Medicine, and served for 17 years on the Attending Staff of Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles in the Division of Child Development and Medical Genetics. He is a clinical member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy and a licensed psychologist in California.
No one has come forward to endorse and run with my ‘08 Fruitcake’ line of cookies, cakes and candies. I am thrilled about the sucker.
Notice that Hussein always claims that his opponents are dividing people and not his buddies like Rev. Wright.
The man is a phony! Obama is starting to make the Clintons look good.
It would be more headline worthy if someone would identify just when/where Obama was baptised as a Christian and just what evangelist CHRISTIANS support same sex couples and the sacrament of aborting a baby outside of the womb when clearly the mother’s health is no longer an issue.
What it all basically comes down to is that Obama is banal.
Ah but the tactic is plainly obvious for those who’ve been following the elections.
The Left has tried to co-opt Christianity. They keep losing to those voters who “cling” to religion over the issues of abortion and homosexuality. The Left says that these Christian voters vote morals even when the other issues are not to their financial advantage.
The third component to this Religious Left argument is that the Bible instructs us to have a charitable government funded by the taxpayer to give socialism to all.
Of course there is no CHARITY in forced taxation under penalty of law.
And if you are an atheist, or non-Christian, or do not follow the DNC’s brand of Christianity, you are not permitted to opt of of the official State religion.
The ACLU lets the DNC slide on this.
but those are the arguments as they’ve made them in 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004...
Obama's head would have to open up and bats fly out before he'd lose the demonRat vote.
Obama is a phony? They all are phonies. And they all offer the same agenda. It is just what package makes the medicine go down easiest?
They tried “war hero” (of course the man they selected lied to Congress and supported the North Vietnamese troops after his service was over and even was a member of a radical organization that plotted to assassinate elected members of Congress).
They think with a “black” man, that is enough to call anyone who challenges his administration a racist. They think this is a better response than saying he’s being swiftboated. They will just say he’s being lynched. Jeremiah Wright has already made the claim that he was “wrongfully” treated in the media.
Hillary, Barack. They are both Marxists. Any different from that and the agenda Howard Dean was pushing in 2004? He got pulled off the stage not because he screamed, he was unelectable. They traded him the office of DNC head honcho in exchange for letting them substitute a “more passive” radical. “Reporting for Du-ty.”
Allah’s Apostle {Muhammad} said, ‘Some eloquent speech is as effective as magic.’
I would like very much for my president to be a born again Christian, but the worst kind of unbeliever is the hypocrite who falsely claims to be a Christian for political or monetary gain. I don't think McCain claims to be a bible believing Christian, but at least he isn't a cynical hypocrite professing a faith he doesn't have for political gain, and unlike Obamessiah he does have a pro-life voting record. I would much rather have an unbelieving president who doesn't make a public profession of faith but supports every baby's right to life than one who does make that profession but doesn't have what he professes.
Dobson is the Bo Snerdley of the evangelicals.
Bactrac Hussein Yomama........a Christ-like figure for the masses
It’s Obamessiah vs. the dowdy Pepaws of the conservative movement, that’s how this thing is being framed. Where are our bright young warriors?
Yep and thanks for the ping, F15 Eagle.
Dobson bump.
Obama isn’t a Christian. Christians don’t kill babies.
He's a (very) liberal DemonRat, they all take fruitcake interpretations of the Constitution. Strangely enough, they are always such as to allow, or even compel, the government to do just what they want it to do.
Note to CNN: Dr James Dobson is not an evangelist. He is not even an ordained minister - he is a psychologist. BTW - I am a supporter of his, and my wife works for him.
Not really they like bats a lot. Moon bats.
“Evangelist accuses Obama of ‘distorting’ Bible.”
(For a second there Eagle, I thought it was an article about you!:))
Good for Dobson. There have been a number of articles about how many “Evangelicals” (whatever that means anymore...sigh) are supporting O. Either the articles are distorted or even church folk are drinking in the circus act.
As you keep saying, “Pray”!
Amen! Dr. Dobson is one of the most trusted men, and of the greatest repute of our times that I know!!!!!He would be the last to twist words, or to misrepresent the Holy Scriptures, and he is well versed in all of God’s word.
A bunch of them are drinking the Obama koolaid without knowledge.
My own pastor’s daughter, with a master’s degree from a very conservative Protestant seminary (read that as “fundamentalist” as I generally am) was going to vote for Obama.
That is, until he sent her all the links that I sent him.
He told me he appreciated how I didn’t do the tabloid stuff. I told him I’d only forward things with reasonable credibility.
She is now totally opposed to Obama, once she found out he wasn’t what he was portraying himself to be, to the mainstream public.
I saw his phony commercial two nights ago about his midwesteran “values”.
I left a church where majority of the people were big liberal Democrats who loved to pitchfork “Bush” (or any Republican President) in Sunday School class. I would think they were secretly glad when I left so they would be less “inhibited” about praising their liberal abortionist candidates and griping about “Bush”. - Ironically, the preacher was supposedly a “conservative”, but wouldn’t preach against voting for abortionist candidates for public office lest he insult his contributors. “Fellowshipping” was really an exercise in futility for the most part. I have never seen such mean and nasty attitudes and behaviors among a group that was supposed to be big “Christians” either. Again, not addressed by the pastor. - Another irony now is that they are also the type in general that wouldn’t vote for either a bi-racial man or a woman (even a Clinton)for President. I don’t know how they’re handling this situation; but I do know that their kind of people created the “Clinton” Dynasty, and now they’re getting what they evidently wanted.
Four years ago, at my former church, two of us tried to get people involved in supporting the Federal Marriage Amendment. The pastor didn't support what we were doing (didn't want to get involved in “politics” even though this was a clear moral issue). At the time I said, “Pastor, if this doesn't pass, one day there will be “gay marriage” in CA and it will be too late. Silence.
Some of it has to do with fear of the IRS, but we are to please God rather then man. We are in dire need of strong Godly leadership in the Church because it is greatly lacking.
This is the kind of post that causes me to despair. It is a terrible mistake to try and demonize Obama on religious grounds with a view to weakening him politically. Obama is a very slick political force, even more clever than Clinton. He does not get drawn into fights he does not want to have.
He already knows he cannot lose the religious debate. If, he loses the fight with Dobson 75% to 25% among evangelicals, he is ahead by 25% from the last election. It was reported on CNN yesterday that Obama may already be polling as high as 35% among evangelicals. More important, he cannot lose this debate among Catholics and especially Jews. By escalating the religious elements of this debate it will allow Obama to further soften (clarify) his position on abortion (which he will). He will take the position that he holds sacred the right of the woman to choose, at the same time, he will affirm the sanctity of all human life and call for specific measures to dramatically reduce the number of abortions among young woman. I would even venture that he might propose funding and call on the faith communities to lead this initiative. It will allow him to appear to be the reasonable man, except for the most militant activist who acutely oppose abortion.
The only way to defeat Obama is on pure policy issues. These religious distractions and the attacks on his character only provide him with more ammunition to ramp up the “change” theme of his campaign.
s/b “Just because some idiots out there choose to ignore it does not make it a invalid argument.”
typo
But his policy issues have everything to do with religious/moral convictions (example, abortion, “gay” rights, socialist style economics etc.) and for those of faith, you can’t compartmentalize or separate your convictions according to politics vs. every day life. That is exactly why it is on Biblical grounds that Dobson made these statements. If nothing else, maybe people will look more closely at Obama’s true record and policies and not just what comes out of his spin machine and his mouth.
YOU are not allowed to make tipo’s errrr typOOOs.*<@:P
