It's clear McCain does not understand how markets work or why they are good.

Libertarian ping! To be added or removed freepmail me or post a message here.

It's clear McCain does not understand how markets work or why they are good.

Yet, the man chaired the Commerce Committee of the U.S. Senate for twelve years.

Apparently, he knew nothing. And he learned nothing.

Either that...or he concluded that business was routinely conducted simply by bribing the appropriate government official.

I am sooooooooooooo unenthusiastic about this man acceding to the Presidency.

A perfect example of this is to compare USAir and Southwest right now.

USAir is cutting capacity, charging baggage, and other, fees, charging for drinks, upping prices.

Southwest are totally add-on fee free.

What’s the difference?

Southwest are currently paying for fuel at prices that they bought forward on a year ago.

I agree, but Obama wasn’t stupid enough to admit it.

Did I say that?

No, I didn't.

Nonetheless, I remain "sooooooooooooo unenthusiastic about this man [McCain] acceding to the Presidency".

If you prefer that I be enthusiastic, then please advise your candidate to at least say something conservative. That would be a good start.

You know, the old technology exists to produce a car that gets 100 MPG, but the oil companies are preventing it from coming to the market trope,

The technology exists to produce a car that gets 62.8mpg highway, but it's not the oil companies preventing it - it's the Environmental Protection Agency. You see, it's a diesel, and burning double the gasoline is somehow less damaging to the "environment" than burning diesel fuel.

"I believe there needs to be a thorough and complete investigation of speculators to find out whether speculation has been going on and, if so, how much it has affected the price of a barrel of oil. There's a lot of things out there that need a lot more transparency and, consequently, oversight."

I have my flame suit on, but, On the surface, I don't have an issue with this statement. There has been a bull run on oil commodoties ahich has driven up the price. Without a thorough and complete understanding of the situation, how can we determine if there is some remedy?

.....Did I say that?....

Just checking. I’m not a strong believer either.

I’ve never run across a gungho strong McCain supporter on FR.

It is hard to separate the absolute anti’s from the mostly disgusteds.

While I personally may think it may be good business sense that the oil companies develop and perfect alternative energy, I fail to see why they should be obligated to do so.

I am a gung-ho McCain supporter since February 20, 2008, the day Romney dropped out of the race. It's a binary solution set, and I am very, very enthusiastic about having John McCain beat the stuffing out of Barack Obama.

I would also like for there to be coat-tails, so we can put a few more Democrat congressmen out to pasture.

I have no desire to return to Carternomics.

An Obama presidency would make you yearn for Carternomics.

Will the mandated “ultra-low” sulfur diesel get around that problem?

It could be that an Obama presidency would be closer to Hugonomics.

McCain follows the Kerry economic model. Marry into millions and you don't need to know a thing about money. It grows on trees for all he knows.
