Mugabe stripped of honorary knighthood
News Limited ^ | June 26, 2008

ZIMBABWEAN President Robert Mugabe has been stripped of his honorary British knighthood as a "mark of revulsion" following recent pre-election violence, the Foreign Office in London said today.

Queen Elizabeth II has approved the annulment of the honour - bestowed on Mugabe by the former colonial power 14 years ago - on the recommendation of Foreign Secretary David Miliband.

"This action has been taken as a mark of revulsion at the abuse of human rights and abject disregard for the democratic process in Zimbabwe over which President Mugabe has presided,"

"We can no longer justify an individual who is responsible for a consistent campaign of human rights violations and the disregard for the democratic process retaining an honour," said the spokesman.

"As international and regional leaders have said, Mugabe's actions in the run-up to the second round of elections has demonstrated his total disregard for democracy and human rights.

"His actions have proved beyond all argument that he is not worthy to retain this honour."

If the article is correct, he was knighted under a Conservative government.

At some point, some English monarch is going to say to himself “hey, I’m the English monarch, England still technically rules over much of the world, soveriegnty by definition rules, it’s time to set some things right - TROOPS! FALL IN!”

Hey Queen, How about ya park about 50 British warships and loaded troop carriers off the east coast of afrika and give Mugabe 48 hours to leave.

Not such a big thread considering that Zimbabwe is landlocked...

Am amazed this human swamp-grass ever was Knighted; amazed he kept the honor for all this time.

Can only say; better now; than never; to remove this degradation.

OK, I stand corrected. I couldn’t load the whole article earlier.

But corrected only technically, since John Major was the guy who kicked Maggie Thatcher out of office and started making the Conservatives over as the “me too” party. As a result, they’be been out of office pretty much ever since, since who wants “me too” if you can get the real thing? It’s been a long time since the Labour Party has had any real competition.

(Which is why I fear the election of John McCain, much as I also fear Obama.)

Why would Britain invade Zimbabwe?

It sucks for the inhabitants to learn what the word “Independence” means, but for the rest of us Zimbabwe is the perfect example of the effects of Marxism.

Zimbabwe’s example is a sore spot for socialists the world over, and a guilty pleasure for the rest of us.

They both got it for non-profit social work, same for Roger Moore. I think John’s thing was AIDS work, of course.

Around 90 commissioned warships. 20+ commissioned vessels of RFA (Royal Fleet Auxiliary).

If only I were a betting man......

What’s really irritating is it was the Tories that did it. Fourteen years ago was right in the middle of John Major’s administration. What were he and Douglas Hurd smoking?

Yeah, that’s a big deal. Apparently the only one ever stripped before was the dictator of Rumania, in 1989. The question is obvious — why were either of them given the honor in the first place?!? Thanks geo.

It’s a start, I guess. SOMEONE acknowledges this POS is a POS.

Tesco says it will not be pulling out of Zimbabwe despite millions starving under Mugabe regime. Hmmmmm
