Report: McCain Meets With President Of Log Cabin Republicans
hotair.com ^ | June 25, 2008 | Allahpundit

Posted on 06/25/2008 8:27:10 PM PDT by Free ThinkerNY

Unconfirmed as yet by the campaign, but the LCRs say it’s so:

A source with close ties to the Log Cabin Board of Directors provided information about the meeting to GayPatriot earlier this week. This source disclosed that the Log Cabin meeting was not reflected on Senator McCain’s published schedule in advance and the meeting…

Log Cabin President Patrick Sammon confirmed the meeting with Senator McCain in email correspondence with GayPatriot earlier today…

Based on published news reports, the meeting with Senator McCain would be the first between any national-level gay Republicans and a Republican Presidental nominee since “The Texas 12″ met with then-Governor George W. Bush in 2000.

One of Maverick’s more appealing mavericky qualities during the campaign has been his attempt to expand the tent by reaching out to minority voters. The rift’s not going to be healed anytime soon and he surely realizes it, but this gets us a tiny bit closer to healing it eventually. It’s commendable that he’s willing to devote resources to the task. What’s especially impressive — or insane, from the strict Machiavellian point of view — is that meeting with the LCRs could actually cost him votes among the most strident members of a social conservative base that’s not real keen on him to begin with and even less so after he dumped Hagee and Parsley. Surely there aren’t so many gay Republicans and independents that winning them over will offset the potential loss in votes among evangelicals, so what’s McCain’s game here? Or is there no game at all and he’s simply acting out of decency towards a GOP constituency?

I wish the drive bys would stop using Hagee and Parsley as some sort of serious Evangelicals of any stature. They are pastors of mega churches with highly questionable theologies. McCain ignoring them after their anti-Catholic rants will not cost him any votes.

Pretty transparent attempt to keep the LCRs from voting for Obama, and perhaps bring middle-of-the-road Democrats across the line (the ones who are okay with gay rights but not okay with Obama's socialism).

Whether this is a winning plan is a whole different question.

I think McCain is acting out of decency.

The LCR’s are admirable in that they put national security and freedom over their personal issues. I am glad McCain is reaching out here.

Frankly, I have no trouble with this. I don’t care what two consenting adults do in their bedroom. My problem is with the leftist anti-family “homosexual agenda.” And the Log Cabin Republicans by and large oppose that agenda, too.

I live in a neighborhood with a huge gay popoulation.
I Don’t agree with lifestyle but there are many I speak with who are republicans and a few who are dems who can’t vote for Obama and voting McCain.

there are also gays I have talked with who also don’t agree with the recent marriage decision here in Calif.

Also know several who are gay and in the military.

If the alternative were Clinton (either), Kerry, Gore, or even Carter, then I’d sit this one out. We would survive them. Problem is the alternative is Obama, the dims answer to Chavez and Imadinnerjacket. Bad as McCain is, we CANNOT let that happen.

The associations with the Log Cabin Republicans or his disassociation with Parley and Hagee mean little if anything to me. He lost my vote because of his associations within the snakepit of treachery known as the United States Senate. He sleeps with Teddy Kennedy as in McCain-Kennedy.

I most certainly do believe in the powers of redemption and pray that practicing homosexuals come to the realization of their sins against God and nature. Catering to the unrepentant homosexual agenda by politicians, such as McCain in this instance, does nothing but embolden them in their quest for recognition and legitimacy. Neither is deserved.
By the way, this group doesn't merely wish to "be left alone in their bedrooms." Read up on them and then come back and let us know what you find in terms of their agenda.

The Dems lost pathetically running on “Anybody But Bush” in 2004.

Frankly, I have yet to hear a single reason why we should expect “Anybody But Obama” will work any differently for us.

McCain sorely needs an actual election strategy, and last month.

Fellowship with God is preconditioned upon the Creature facing Him with respect to His provision.

Any group of men who precondition their membership in that group with policies which they explicitly declare to come first before God, have already preconditioned themselves to not be accepted by Him.

No individual or group of individuals have fellowship with God when they precondition that relationship by their individual preferences over His.

Associating with such groups is not the same as our Lord and Savior witnessing to men and women who sere sinners, but were receptive to receiving Him and God’s provision first before their sins.

Redemption has been paid, but not forgiveness until the believer returns to Him on His grounds.

And also note that Jesus said, "Go, and sin no more." So when you are doing all this reaching out, do you help them leave their life of sin? Or do you do more harm than good by giving them a pass, telling them that God is only kidding.

What you say may be mostly true (though for atheists and pagans to learn from Christ, they would have to let go of being their own “kings” in effect and accept His work of Redemption for them), anyway..It is true we must love these “sinners” (homosexuals and gays), after all I don't condemn them I am but the chiefest of sinners saved by God's Grace, myself, but it DOESN'T In any way mean we should embrace their politics (political goals) foisted upon the nation through our Government's public policies!!..

In 2004, the candidates on the ballot in region of the U.S. were George W. Bush for President, Alan Keyes for U.S. Senate, and Ray Wardingley for U.S. Congress.

Our Log Cabin "Republicans" in Illinois supported Kerry over Bush, Obama over Keyes, and Bobby "black panther" Rush over Wardingley.

Why? Because none of their "fellow" Republicans on the ballot supported special rights for gays.

I don't care what they call themselves, the Log Cabin crowd exists only to inflitrate the GOP and get it to support the RAT agenda. They are NOT Republicans, just a Democrat front group. The only "Republicans" they endorse are RINOs who promise to vote for the radical gay agenda. A REAL Republican group endorses the candidate closest to their own views in the primary, and then backs whoever the party nominee is in the general election.

If they were a group of conservative-minded gays whose motive was to get other liked-minded pro-life, pro-gun, lower-tax, less-spending, anti-amnesty, pro-WOT people who HAPPEN to be gay -- to pull the lever for Republicans, I'd be fine with that.

That is not their motive. Their motive is simply to make the GOP socially liberal and pro gay-marriage. And that is the ONLY issue that will get them to endorse "Republicans".

In short, they are the Log Cabin Democrats and ought to advertise themselves as such.

>> The LCR’s are admirable in that they put national security and freedom over their personal issues. <<

Quite the opposite. The LCR puts their personal issues ahead of national security and freedom. That's why they were rooting for Kerry and Obama in 2004.

The Log Cabin "Republicans" Board of Directors voted by an overwheming margin of 22 to 2 to OPPOSE President Bush's re-election.

Log Cabin has spent most of the year fighting the Federal Marriage Protection Amendment [that would prevent gay marriage]. "We have made it clear that we can either be the party of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Rudy Giuliani or we can be the party of Alan Keyes and Rick Santorum,” said LCR Director Patrick Guerriero. "During the fight over the anti-family FMA, we sadly watched as the President and his Administration leaned on Republican members of the House and Senate to support this divisive and unnecessary amendment. We watched as the President’s support for this anti-family amendment emboldened the forces of fear and exclusion to push anti-gay ballot initiatives and legislation on the state and local level. We watched as the radical right works to defeat fair-minded Republicans across the nation. We watched as the Republican Party Platform rejected our Party Unity Plank and included language opposing not only civil marriage but also civil unions, domestic partnerships or indeed any basic benefits for same-sex couples. At a time when courageous gay and lesbian military personnel are helping to win the war on terror, the platform outrageously claims ‘homosexuality is incompatible with military service’,” continued Guerriero.
