NARAL Catholics Line Up for Obama
Wall Street Journal ^ | 26 June 2008 | WILLIAM MCGURN

You are the Democratic candidate for president. You want to reach out to Catholics. So what do you do when the majority of the elected officials on your National Catholic Advisory Council have the seal of approval from NARAL Pro-Choice America?

That's the position Barack Obama now finds himself in. A few months ago, his Catholic advisory council was announced with great enthusiasm, and Sen. Bob Casey (D., Pa.) was listed as a national co-chair. His appearance at the top of the council sent a clear message: This campaign is determined to recover some of the lost Democratic sheep who have gravitated to the GOP over abortion.

This council does indeed include some Catholics whose pro-life credentials are impeccable, including Minnesota Congressman James Oberstar. But let us also stipulate the obvious: Of the 21 senators, congressmen and governors listed on the council's National Leadership Committee, 17 have a 90%-100% NARAL approval rating. Even Mr. Casey now enjoys a 65% NARAL approval rating.

It's not as if these NARAL scores are outliers: Sen. Obama himself boasts a 100% NARAL rating, and for good reason. In a speech before Planned Parenthood, he declared that the right to an abortion is at stake in this election, and vowed that he would not yield on appointing judges that would uphold Roe v. Wade.

Mr. Obama is for using tax dollars to fund abortions, and against restrictions on partial-birth abortion. In the Illinois Senate, he voted against legislation protecting a child who was born alive despite an abortion. In sum, if you want to know what Mr. Obama's policies mean, it's this: taxpayer-funded abortion on demand.

Not fair, complains the Obama camp. They point to statements

He's not going to pick up a lot of Catholic and evangelical votes. He's a very extreme pro-abortion candidate. There's no restriction on abortion, no matter how minor, that he hasn't opposed.

But the right to an abortion is the most sacred ::sarc::

Hey, at least his team didn’t include staunchly Anti-Catholic bloggers, they just include many of those who call themselves Catholic because their parents or relatives are.

None of this is relevent if it weren't for that unconstitutional roe v wade ruling. If the foul humans such as obama want to live in a culture of death, our form of government provides for that. Abortion and anything not listed in the bill of rights should be decided by the state legislatures. Why anyone could possibly think killing babies is acceptable public policy is beyond me but people can vote with their feet and get away from such a foul society.

I am a Catholic and let me tell you one thing..there are more liberals in the pew’s and more liberals in the local archdiocese and that are priests than you could shake a stick at.

It makes NO sense. Just like blacks voting blindly for Democrats who never have and NEVER will do anything for them.

From NARAL-

Sen. John McCain (R-AZ)

Sen. John McCain served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1983 to 1986 and in the U.S. Senate from 1987 to present. During his four years in the House, then-Rep. McCain cast 11 votes on abortion and other reproductive-rights issues. Ten of these votes were anti-choice. In the Senate, Sen. McCain has cast 119 votes on abortion and other reproductive-rights issues, 115 of which were anti-choice.

In addition to his solidly anti-choice record, Sen. McCain has never cosponsored or supported legislation that would prevent unintended pregnancy or reduce the need for abortion.

Contradiction in terms here. There are no NARAL Catholics. There are some people who adopt the name Catholic to falsely describe themselves. I spent some of my childhood in Istanbul but I am not a Turk and would not be a Turk were I to call myself one.

The Hispanic priest down at the local church says anyone like Obama who believes in the murder of the unborn should not be considered a Christian and should not receive communion.

Every time he gives the abortion or the same sex marriage sermon several people get up and leave.

I suspect these are the same people driving Volvos and BMW's with the Obama stickers.

It says...”choice AND OTHER REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS ISSUES”

Don’t know what it was, but might it have had anything to do with embryonic stem cell research?

In any case, you better believe that an overwhelmingly one sided voting record as that would be seen as anti choice or pro life by NARAL.

It might matter to you that once he didn’t vote the correct prolife way.

It only matters to NARAL that he has chosen the wrong side nearly all the time.

He is their enemy incarnate and it’s this they will use to keep angry Hillary feminist voters in line.

NARAL Catholics
No such thing!!! Once one associates with one it ceases to be associated with the other...

...here’s the trouble...some of the most devout Catholics in the parishes, those who attend church daily and who could recite all the prayers in their sleep, are older folks whose people have been voting Democrat for years, since they got off the boat onto the shores of America...many of them have no idea of the positions of the party they have been conditioned to vote for...and if you say to them “you support killing babies when you vote Democrat” they recoil in horror and go into denial mode...however, their votes count the same as any other, and their numbers, though dwindling, are still many...they are not evil, they are uninformed, and not cognizant of their actions upon the greater social fabric...

It's just the opposite in my parish...I'd go so far as to say my diocese. The blue hairs are NOT the most devout as a group. By far that honor and distinction goes to the 20-30-40 somethings, married with children. The 'Spirit of Vatican II' moral relativists and anti-dogma, heterodox busy bodies who damned near killed any sense of reverance in the church and who banished the Tabernacles to back rooms or out of the way chapels are all blue hairs now. Alot of them know exactly what they are doing when they vote 'rat. They think they know better than the Church...they find obedience to the Magesterium an outdated and childish idea and feel that they've fully grown in their faith.

I'm painting with a broad brush here...not every old person fell into that category but a whole lot of them did. Lay people, priests and bishops. Their time is passing now and we have a Pope who is bent on setting things straight again. Alleleuia!

OK but I'm, off German cars since selling my Porsche several years ago.

It was fix or repair daily with that over priced Volkswagen wannabe and the tune ups seemed to come faster than the mileage.

About three years ago my wife bought a Hyundai Sonata and we are yet to change anything other than oil.

We parked our Trailblazer and GMC Sierra both great automobiles and strictly drive the Sonata due to the 28 MPG.

Don't listen to me about the BMW, if you got the cash, then go for it.
