You are the Democratic candidate for president. You want to reach out to Catholics. So what do you do when the majority of the elected officials on your National Catholic Advisory Council have the seal of approval from NARAL Pro-Choice America?
That's the position Barack Obama now finds himself in. A few months ago, his Catholic advisory council was announced with great enthusiasm, and Sen. Bob Casey (D., Pa.) was listed as a national co-chair. His appearance at the top of the council sent a clear message: This campaign is determined to recover some of the lost Democratic sheep who have gravitated to the GOP over abortion.
This council does indeed include some Catholics whose pro-life credentials are impeccable, including Minnesota Congressman James Oberstar. But let us also stipulate the obvious: Of the 21 senators, congressmen and governors listed on the council's National Leadership Committee, 17 have a 90%-100% NARAL approval rating. Even Mr. Casey now enjoys a 65% NARAL approval rating.
It's not as if these NARAL scores are outliers: Sen. Obama himself boasts a 100% NARAL rating, and for good reason. In a speech before Planned Parenthood, he declared that the right to an abortion is at stake in this election, and vowed that he would not yield on appointing judges that would uphold Roe v. Wade.
Mr. Obama is for using tax dollars to fund abortions, and against restrictions on partial-birth abortion. In the Illinois Senate, he voted against legislation protecting a child who was born alive despite an abortion. In sum, if you want to know what Mr. Obama's policies mean, it's this: taxpayer-funded abortion on demand.
Not fair, complains the Obama camp. They point to statements

Isn’t this the equivalent of Jews for Hitler circa 1944?
Oops, I meant 1939.
No real Christian can for abortion. It should run deeper than Catholiscism
Agreed. I most certainly should.
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
But the right to an abortion is the most sacred ::sarc::
Hey, at least his team didn’t include staunchly Anti-Catholic bloggers, they just include many of those who call themselves Catholic because their parents or relatives are.
Sick. Sick. Sick. And shame on us for even having to have this discussion.
Casey is a LOT of things - pro-life is NOT among them!
None of this is relevent if it weren't for that unconstitutional roe v wade ruling. If the foul humans such as obama want to live in a culture of death, our form of government provides for that. Abortion and anything not listed in the bill of rights should be decided by the state legislatures. Why anyone could possibly think killing babies is acceptable public policy is beyond me but people can vote with their feet and get away from such a foul society.
I am a Catholic and let me tell you one thing..there are more liberals in the pew’s and more liberals in the local archdiocese and that are priests than you could shake a stick at.
It makes NO sense. Just like blacks voting blindly for Democrats who never have and NEVER will do anything for them.
Pronunciation: \ˌäk-sē-ˈmȯr-ˌän\
Function: noun
: a combination of contradictory or incongruous words (as cruel kindness); broadly : something (as a concept) that is made up of contradictory or incongruous elements
eg. "NARAL Catholics"
From NARAL-
Sen. John McCain (R-AZ)
Sen. John McCain served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1983 to 1986 and in the U.S. Senate from 1987 to present. During his four years in the House, then-Rep. McCain cast 11 votes on abortion and other reproductive-rights issues. Ten of these votes were anti-choice. In the Senate, Sen. McCain has cast 119 votes on abortion and other reproductive-rights issues, 115 of which were anti-choice.
In addition to his solidly anti-choice record, Sen. McCain has never cosponsored or supported legislation that would prevent unintended pregnancy or reduce the need for abortion.
McCain’s our man!!!!
Headed by Bob Casey , the radical PA senator that tried to slip millions to Barry’s old employer ACCORN in a Iraqi war bill .
Contradiction in terms here. There are no NARAL Catholics. There are some people who adopt the name Catholic to falsely describe themselves. I spent some of my childhood in Istanbul but I am not a Turk and would not be a Turk were I to call myself one.
He has also voted for post live-birth “abortion.”
Every time he gives the abortion or the same sex marriage sermon several people get up and leave.
I suspect these are the same people driving Volvos and BMW's with the Obama stickers.
In addition to his solidly anti-choice record.
Solid? What was the 11th vote??? Obviously it was a vote for choice on something.
Yeah and they dont even KNOW how liberal/progressive they are.
Many of us go to other Parishes because we cant or are NOT welcomed.
Public forum wont get into details but it would make your head spin.
It says...”choice AND OTHER REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS ISSUES”
Don’t know what it was, but might it have had anything to do with embryonic stem cell research?
In any case, you better believe that an overwhelmingly one sided voting record as that would be seen as anti choice or pro life by NARAL.
It might matter to you that once he didn’t vote the correct prolife way.
It only matters to NARAL that he has chosen the wrong side nearly all the time.
He is their enemy incarnate and it’s this they will use to keep angry Hillary feminist voters in line.
They are all making horrible choice for their lives both here and the hereafter.
Obama is evil incarnate.
Ahh YUP. In other news... The Whiskey Drinking Teetotalers Club will hold it's monthly Big Booze Bash on ...
What did Bishop James Clifford Timlin who supported casey jr of the Scranton have to say about Casey Jr.?
Bishop Timlin never offered any support for Rick Santorum who was a leading proponent of the Pro Life Movement!!!!!
I’m not even a Catholic, but I still think this is too weird for words.
NARAL Catholics? What’s next? Atheists for Christ?
There are ZERO NARAL catholics in the Catholic Church. These people are pretending to be catholics; they are heretics. Love does not include murder of children.
CINOs (”catholics” line up for Snobama-messiah) ping!
Well THAT’S it barack mcgovern is certainly going to win. After all Catholics will flock to him BECAUSE he is a baby killer, no make that a BORN baby killer. Yup, it’s all over.Considering the rocky economy maybe we should call off the election and use the money to buy heating oil for the poor.
I agree with your reply. Our pastor made this statement at a non church event several years ago.
"I don't know how any Christian can go to church on Sunday and vote for a democrat on Tuesday."
No such thing!!! Once one associates with one it ceases to be associated with the other.
1933 maybe?
NARAL Catholics
No such thing!!! Once one associates with one it ceases to be associated with the other...
...here’s the trouble...some of the most devout Catholics in the parishes, those who attend church daily and who could recite all the prayers in their sleep, are older folks whose people have been voting Democrat for years, since they got off the boat onto the shores of America...many of them have no idea of the positions of the party they have been conditioned to vote for...and if you say to them “you support killing babies when you vote Democrat” they recoil in horror and go into denial mode...however, their votes count the same as any other, and their numbers, though dwindling, are still many...they are not evil, they are uninformed, and not cognizant of their actions upon the greater social fabric...
I'm painting with a broad brush here...not every old person fell into that category but a whole lot of them did. Lay people, priests and bishops. Their time is passing now and we have a Pope who is bent on setting things straight again. Alleleuia!
To remain uninformed in today’s media blitz world makes you a dumbarse, no excuse for not knowing where the two major political parties stand, none at all.
Gee, Barry, I thought Rats say only Republicans used litmus tests on judicial nominees. In fact, if Republicans *did* use litmus tests, there wouldn't have been a Kennedy, Souter, O'Conner...
Not exactly because in fact those Jews would still be Jews even if it was entirely against their self-interest to support Hitler. These vile creatures are not Catholics by any notion no matter how fanciful.
... on Tuesday at the Whole Hog BBQ Kosher Pork Vegetarian Grill. All pro-abortion Catholics, tone-deaf piano tuners, and porn-star virgins are cordially invited to come and join the fun.
So true! Naral Catholics! We should be lol at the oxymoron. Not thinking of folks we know who fit the bill...
‘Catholics’???? I think not! No real Catholic can vote for a baby killer!
Amen! Then there are the cafeteria Catholics!!!!!
I was with ya 100% until the BMW thing. I want one! I have a chance to buy one! I don’t support abortion! Please!
It was fix or repair daily with that over priced Volkswagen wannabe and the tune ups seemed to come faster than the mileage.
About three years ago my wife bought a Hyundai Sonata and we are yet to change anything other than oil.
We parked our Trailblazer and GMC Sierra both great automobiles and strictly drive the Sonata due to the 28 MPG.
Don't listen to me about the BMW, if you got the cash, then go for it.
