Surrounding my condo entrance is a cedar fence. When Gov. Bobby Jindal was campaigning for election in 2007, I had no need to put up a sign to show my support and hope. A bumper sticker was already attached from his campaign four years earlier.
The sign remained fresh, as the fence is covered by a patio and carport awning. This sign represented a feeling of hope and trust that Louisiana would finally elect a governor of the people. A leader who would live up to campaign promises and when it came time ... would do the right thing.
I am shocked at Gov. Jindals refusal to veto the excessive pay-raise bill approved for themselves by the Legislature.
This sleazy legislation was ramrodded through when lawmakers knew that voters and constituents were screaming in protest.
This kind of slick maneuvering must be dealt with by the voters of this state. People, please get involved. We as citizens do not stand a chance of moving our state forward if we do not immediately stand up and let these lawmakers, and the governor know that the balance of power is with the people, as it should be. We cannot let sleazy, over-the-top and self-serving legislation get a free pass.
My friends will not have to ask why my Jindal sign is no longer displayed at my condo entrance. I am sure they have the same feeling of betrayal deep down inside.

Don’t give up hope.
On July 5th, 2005 the PA General Assembly voted at 2 AM to increase their salaries and those of judges and other state officials. To say that there was some unrest would be an understatement.
Within 4 months, the raise was rescinded except for the judges who sued to keep theirs (and the PA Supreme Court Chief Justice turns out to have colluded with the legislative leaders to arrange the whole deal.)
Not only that, public pressure persuaded 25 or 30 of the rats (from both parties) to decide not to run for reelection. In that November’s election, another 25 or 30 incumbents lost and for the first time in PA history, a sitting SC justice lost his bid to retain his seat. Another almost lost, but she too decided to step down before her term ended.
There is still a lot of corruption to be cleaned up, but our efforts (not that I am claiming any special credit — credit goes to Russ Diamond who started the CleanSweep movement and several others from both parties) led to an unprecedented turnover of 20% of the legislature.
Follow Russ’ guideline and keep it bipartisan and you might meet with similar success. Good luck.

Clarification and credit where its due
We have been studying the CleanSweep model for several weeks. There is a possibility it can be replicated here in Louisiana. I’ve not seen the electorate this energized in many years.
PS — The pay raise increases ranged from 16% to 54%. Some of these guys would have gotten a $40,000 raise.
Pa government is working hard to unseat Louisiana and Arkansas as the most corrupt state.
Two top GOP leaders were amongst those who got their asses handed to them and one Democrat leader who refused to pay back the raise he got was also trounced. We expect any day now that he and many others will face indictment on unrelated charges involving misuse of tax payer monies

I don’t see anything in this sufficient to discredit Jindals conservatism.
You've clearly not been paying attention. This is about the fourth 'mistake' Jindal has committed since he was sworn in. He greatly increased state spending, he granted huge pay raises to top state bureaucrats and he tried to sabotage the Stelly Rollback tax cut.

Sutherlin says citizens consumed by pay raise flap
Yep, here in Minnesota we have global warming/health care for all Pawlenty, sure be glad to see him go be McDole’s VP so we can select a real conservative for Governor.
I agree. This whole thread is bogus and overly dramatic.
Let the legislature get a lousy pay raise and be done with it.
The ridiculous thing to do is to sacrifice one of the most promising (and brilliant) Republicans on the altar because "I am personally ticked off."
Drop it.
I need a lot more than this.
If a promising conservative new to the scene didnt face immediate attempts by the left to discredit him, I would be very surprised. At this point, thats all this is.
If Jindal is not a real conservative, that information will become clear with time. Im not in a hurry to dismiss him.
Looking for a conservative for the future? Jindal is toast. Next.
“This whole thread is bogus and overly dramatic.”
And hysterically eager.
So far this tell us more about the attempts to discredit Jindal than about Jindal himself.
Ain’t happening. We are stirred up here and there are some politicians here about to pay a big price. Stay tuned.
The voters of Louisiana get to make that choice next election and they’re very very pissed off. If they run him out of office, which they will, he won’t ever be a factor in Republican national politics. Consider him dropped.
Yep, the walls sure came tumbling down in Pennsylvania on that one thanks to Russ. Unfortunately, after the dust cleared, a brand new wall was found to be emplaced right behind where the old wall was formerly standing.
In other words this could be merely a political miscalculation by Jindal. Is there enough to be at odds the defining conservative principles? I don’t see it yet.
Ya know, I'm really getting put out by the blowhards who keep saying "Jindal's a true conservative" without having to document a damn thing. This debate here has been going on for about two months, ever since Jindal stabbed us in the back on the Stelly Tax Rollback.
Every time I make a post about Jindal and his betrayal of us conservatives, I back it up with documentation and links. We have the facts on the budget increases and on his early opposition to the tax cut. And the facts on this legislative pay raise and Jindals lack of stones to do the right thing is pretty clear.
All the blowhards who claim Jindal's a conservative have is hot air. They document or back up nothing.
So the question then becomes are all the blowhard Jindalites real conservatives or are they just political whores?
All you’ve got on me is that I’m not in Louisiana and haven’t been motivated to check details to the extent you have. That much is true.
But you sure are getting emotional about this. What’s that all about.
Looks to me like you just admitted you don't know the subject matter on which you attempt to pontificate. But I had somehow figured that out several weeks ago.
I have relatives in La. and judging from their reaction and what is being reported in the press about the reaction in general I would say he has made a huge mistake. Too bad because even Rush was touting him as a player in the future. McCain was also looking at him as a running mate.
You just gave yourself away. Several weeks ago I wasnt doing any debating about Jindal, meaning youre referring to my comments on other topics.
Now your agenda is to discredit me in general(good luck with that). Why do you hope so fervently to portray me in such a way? Lets take a good long look at your agenda now.
Of course you mean after Illinois don't you?
My mistake. All you Jindalites sound the same.
If Im a Jindalite I should learn more about him, and fast.
Sarcasm aside, Ill say at this point Im content to take information posted by others, when I happen to run across it. If theres a hurry to label Jindal in a certain way, Ill take note.
May conservative principles guide us.
Although I’ve questioned Rush in the past, I trust him completely and will rely on what he says about Jindal.
If Rush says anything different about Jindal, it will mean something.
Jindal is looking like a lightweight...(not unlike Barack I might add)...

Thanks for the links, abb.
While the ranking of conservative principles is debatable, one would have to agree that "less government at all levels" has to be close to the top. At least it is with me. Jindal has violated that principle flagrantly. It's all documented.

We are preparing our signs.
ONE is:
NO VETO
NO VOTE
Another one:
GAS-$4 a gallon
Lobby Meals-$50
Legislators pay-$50,000
Promises & Veto-PRICELESS
If Jindal truly is a RINO (which I dont know yet), it gives him a much better chance of being picked as McCains vp candidate.
Unless you have been following all of the details of the actions of Jindal and the Louisiana legislature, you are in no position to make this judgment. The Louisiana legislature is behaving just as they have done for decades. And Jindal has shown no leadership ability whatsoever...all that he has demonstrated is his ability to put on a dog and pony show, never missing an opportunity to claim credit for making the sun rise in the morning and set in the evening. His much touted ethics reforms are examples of toothless legislation...they look good on the books but there are no measures taken to assure enforcement. Jindal has a well organized self-promotion advertising campaign to make sure that the public is informed of all of his “achievements.” This campaign has recently been running frequent advertisements bragging about legislation that “Jindal has passed”, when Jindal actually opposed the legislation. In addition, Jindal recently has broken a written, highly promoted campaign promise...and this is not the first time. I have supported Bobby in every campaign he has undertaken...but never again.
Hey Patrick there will never be a politician that will please everyone 100% of the time. Get a life boy! BTW whats up with you and your feaking sign?
Same here. Are we getting the whole story?
Which is the very reason I started these daily updates. But I can't make you read them - I can only do so much.
I live in South Carolina but was in LA Mon and Tue of this week on a trip.
Based on what I heard on local talk radio, the citizens are very, very pissed about the pay raise.
And I don’t blame them.
Funny what constitutes conservatism when it suits conservatives.
