Controversial Priest Returns to the Pulpit - GMA Exclusive: Father Michael Pfleger Talks...
ABC News ^ | June 26, 2008 | Jonann Brady

Posted on 06/26/2008 5:02:21 AM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

The Rev. Michael Pfleger, the Chicago priest suspended for two weeks after a sermon mocking Sen. Hillary Clinton, returned to his pulpit on Sunday like a fighter ready to take back the title.

In an exclusive interview, Pfleger told "Good Morning America" that he does not "apologize for being passionate, I don't apologize for being free."

"But I apologize when my passion or my freeness and my flawedness of character get in the way of a content which is much more important to me," he told "GMA's" Robin Roberts.

Pfleger gave the controversial Clinton speech on May 25 as a guest preacher at Trinity United Church of Christ, Sen. Barack Obama's longtime parish, which the likely Democratic presidential nominee has since left.

Pfleger said, in part, that Clinton felt a sense of "white entitlement" to the presidency.

A firestorm erupted when the sermon hit YouTube, and the media picked it up and rebroadcast it. Obama denounced Pfleger's comments as "divisive" and "backward looking."

Pfleger issued an apology, but he received numerous death threats, which he said were indicative of the racial climate in the country.

One e-mail threat he received said, "I wish one of the folks in your dangerous neighborhood will shoot you."

"I mean, just some of the mean, horrible things that were said," Pfleger said. "I think you have to also understand it's the reality, it's the reality of the sensitivity of this country, the name-calling, the number of e-mails and letters using the N word, calling me a wigger and telling me to leave the country, and why don't I go to Africa."

But Pfleger is also not backing down.

You're known by the company you keep. Also, I don't believe that Pfleger got all these threatening e-mails. Seems like a drama queen to me.

He sounds like a queen, period.

This so-called priest didn’t just mock our “beloved” former first lady.....he also mocked white people in general.

This is the same creep who led marches on Chicago gun shops and threatened to kill the owners.

Yet another reason why I don’t watch these morning liberal talking head shows.

But when he asked a crowd of protestors in front of a gun store to drag the owner out and "snuff him" that was okay. No death threat there you hypocrite!

Personally, I wish he had followed through on his threat to the gun store owner himself. I wish he would have led the charge in to the store to drag him out. We would have seen who got “snuffed out”. The thing about it is that his speech was not supposed to be for public consumption. I think someone just taped it with a cell phone or something like that.

He’s a typical liberal. Appears to be so nice and reasonable, but then moments like this are caught where he shows his real character. Like what happened to Obama at that San Francisco fund raiser.

This is the true enemy and they are ruthless. I do believe Obama will be the one to wake Americans up to what liberals are though.

A white guy like Clinton can rail on white people and tell them they don't do enough for blacks or the poor or whomever. When Obama does it it looks like he's saying "You white people don't do enough for me" instead of "enough for them".

I think the words of the good Father Pfleger should be taken as they were given. He stated that the Roman Catholic church wasn't going to do anything about him, cause of his support in his parish.

The church is a large bureaucratic corporation that now has a Pope that is trying to clean up the mess.

Maybe the good Father Pfleger should be made to repeat the orders of the Franciscans and actually go back to being a priest

IX. On preachers.

The friars must not preach in the diocese of any bishop if they have been forbidden to do so by him. And no brother should dare preach to the people unless he has been examined and approved by the minister general of his brotherhood and the office of preaching has been conceded to him. I also admonish and exhort the brothers that in their preaching their words be studied and chaste, useful and edifying to the people, telling them about vices and virtues, punishment and glory; and they ought to be brief, because the Lord kept his words brief when he was on earth.

Brothers who are ministers and servants of other brothers must visit and admonish their brothers, and they should correct them humbly and lovingly, prescribing nothing against their soul or our rule. Brothers who are subject to authority must remember that they have surrendered their own wills for the sake of God. Thus I strictly order them to obey their ministers in all those things which they have promised the Lord to observe and which are not contrary to the soul and to our rule. And wherever there are brothers who know they cannot observe the rule spiritually, those brothers should and may recur to their ministers. The ministers should receive them lovingly and generously and treat them so intimately that the brothers can speak and act as lords do with their servants. For that is the way it ought to be. The ministers should be servants of all the brothers.

I admonish and exhort the brothers in the Lord Jesus Christ to beware of all pride, vainglory, envy, avarice, worldly care and concern, criticism and complaint. ............above all they should wish to have the spirit of the Lord working within them, and that they should pray to him constantly with a pure heart, be humble, be patient in persecution and infirmity, and love those who persecute, blame or accuse us, for the Lord says, "Love your enemies, pray for those who persecute and accuse you" (Mtt. 5:44). "Blessed are those who suffer persecution for justice's sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven" (Mtt. 5:10). "He who has persevered until the end, however, will be saved" (Mtt. 10:22).

XII. Concerning those who go among the Saracens and other infidels.

Whoever should, by divine inspiration, wish to go among the Saracens and other infidels must ask permission from their provincial ministers. The ministers should grant permission only to those whom they consider qualified to be sent.

Martyrs don't get canonized anymore for being burned at the stake. This guy is working on sainthood by being a "victim" of public opinion, of his own church and of alleged "death threats".

All demented leftists who wrap themselves over-zealously in the flag or religiosity get "death threats", for instance, Mother Sheehan.

I saw clips of Pfather Pfleger's sermon on Chicago TV last Sunday night. He was like a menacing bulldog holding on to a bone, not backing down, growling at any idea of giving up his "crusade" for wealth re-distribution.

This is EXACTLY what is at the root of his communist ideology and perverted theology. Don't be fooled into thinking anything else about this renegade priest.

Obama, Pfleger, and Earmarks [UPDATED]

CBS News notes that Pfleger is "another pastor friend."

But he's much more than that. Pfleger and Obama have had a long relationship. Pfleger backed Obama against Bobby Rush when Obama ran in 2000 for Congress.

Already by that time, Pfleger was on record supporting radicals like Louis Farrakhan.

Pfleger is a campaign contributor to Obama, in addition to being yet another "spiritual mentor," and Obama got a $225,000.00 earmark for Pfleger's church when Obama was in the state legislature in Illinois.

Obama's strategist, lobbyist David Axelrod, told the New York Times that Father Pfleger was "remaking the face" of Chicago’s South Side and that all of Mr. Obama’s earmarks went to worthy programs like his.

Great, so not only is Obama associating with far left hate filled preachers, he's getting them tax dollars too.

[UPDATE:] Our friends at the Catholic League have gone on offense over this issue.

"Obama and Pfleger are no strangers. Indeed, when Obama was in the state senate in Illinois, he conveniently arranged for Father Pfleger's St. Sabina’s Church to receive state monies for its social programs. Of course, the guardians of church and state separation said nothing then and they are saying nothing now. That’s because they’re all in the tank for Obama. Just as important, why is it that of all the wonderful Catholic priests in the Chicago Archdiocese, Obama long ago chose Pfleger to hang with? Truth be known, Pfleger has a very troubling history: he has welcomed the anti-Semite Louis Farrakhan to preach in his church; he has hired prostitutes to worship there; he has been arrested for defacing billboards; and he once urged the crowd at an anti-gun rally to hunt down a gun store owner 'like a rat' and 'snuff' him.

"Senator Obama says he wants to bring people together. Then why does he choose as his clerical friends people like Rev. Jeremiah Wright and Father Pfleger? They are two peas in a pod, both equally divisive, separated only by the color of their skin."

"God Damn America, U.S. to Blame for 9/11"
--Rev Dr. Jeremiah Wright, Obama's pastor for twenty years

Wright: "In the 21st century, white America got a wake-up call after 9/11/01. White America and the Western world came to realize that people of color had not gone away, faded into the woodwork or just 'disappeared' as the Great White West kept on its merry way of ignoring Black concerns."

[special Friday night edition--original airdate May 2, 2008]

(some key excerpts)

JOSE DIAZ-BALART, TELEMUNDO NETWORK: "Liberation theology in Nicaragua in the mid-1980's was a pro-Sandinista, pro-Marxist, anti-U.S., anti-Catholic Church movement. That's it. No ifs, ands, or buts. His church apparently supported, in the mid-'80s in Nicaragua, groups that supported the Sandinista dictatorships and that were opposed to the Contras whose reason for being was calling for elections. That's all I know. I was there.

I saw the churches in Nicaragua that he spoke of, and the churches were churches that talked about the need for violent revolution and I remember clearly one of the major churches in Managua where the Jesus Christ on the altar was not Jesus Christ, he was a Sandinista soldier, and the priests talked about the corruption of the West, talked about the need for revolution everywhere, and talked about 'the evil empire' which was the United States of America."

REV. BOB SCHENCK, NATIONAL CLERGY COUNCIL: "it's based in Marxism. At the core of his [Wright's] theology is really an anti-Christian understanding of God, and as part of a long history of individuals who actually advocate using violence in overthrowing those they perceive to be oppressing them, even acts of murder have been defended by followers of liberation theology. That's very, very dangerous."

SCHENCK: "I was actually the only person escorted to Dr. Wright. He asked to see me, and I simply welcomed him to Washington, and then I said Dr. Wright, I want to bring you a warning: your embrace of Marxist liberation theology. It is contrary to the Gospel, and you need, sir, to abandon it. And at that he dropped the handshake and made it clear that he was not in the mood to dialogue on that point."

"On May 1st, May Day [1969], the day of the gigantic Free Huey rally, two of Alioto's top executioners vamped on the brothers from the Brown Community who were attending to their own affairs. These brothers, who are endowed with the revolutionary spirit of the Black Panther Party defended themselves from the racist pig gestapo.

Pig Joseph Brodnik received his just reward with a big hole in the chest. Pig Paul McGoran got his in the mouth which was not quite enough to off him.

The revolutionary brothers escaped the huge swarm of pigs with dogs, mace, tanks and helicopters, proving once again that "the spirit of the people is greater than the man's technology."

To these brothers the revolutionary people of racist America want to say, by your revolutionary deed you are heroes, and that you are always welcome to our camp."

Obama's Church: Gospel of Hate
Kathy Shaidle, FrontPageMag.com
Monday, April 07, 2008

In March of 2007, FOX News host Sean Hannity had engaged Obama’s pastor in a heated interview about his Church’s teachings. For many viewers, the ensuing shouting match was their first exposure to "Black Liberation Theology"...

Like the pro-communist Liberation Theology that swept Central America in the 1980s and was repeatedly condemned by Pope John Paul II, Black Liberation Theology combines warmed-over 1960s vintage Marxism with carefully distorted biblical passages. However, in contrast to traditional Marxism, it emphasizes race rather than class. The Christian notion of "salvation" in the afterlife is superseded by "liberation" on earth, courtesy of the establishment of a socialist utopia.

Catholics for Marx
By Fr. Robert Sirico
FrontPageMagazine.com | Thursday, June 03, 2004

In the days when the Superpowers were locked in a Cold War, Latin America seethed with revolution, and millions lived behind an iron curtain, a group of theologians concocted a novel idea within the history of Christianity. They proposed to combine the teachings of Jesus with the teachings of Marx as a way of justifying violent revolution to overthrow the economics of capitalism.

The Gospels were re-rendered not as doctrine impacting on the human soul but rather as windows into the historical dialectic of class struggle. These "liberation theologians" saw every biblical criticism of the rich as a mandate to expropriate the expropriating owners of capital, and every expression of compassion for the poor as a call for an uprising by the proletarian class of peasants and workers.

From Jeff Head's website...
One notable quote from [James] Cone describing his Black Liberation Theology is as follows:

"Black theology refuses to accept a God who is not identified totally with the goals of the black community. If God is not for us and against white people, then he is a murderer, and we had better kill him. The task of black theology is to kill Gods who do not belong to the black community ... Black theology will accept only the love of God which participates in the destruction of the white enemy. What we need is the divine love as expressed in Black Power, which is the power of black people to destroy their oppressors here and now by any means at their disposal. Unless God is participating in this holy activity, we must reject his love." - "Divine Racism: The Unacknowledged Threshold Issue for Black Theology", in African-American Religious Thought: An Anthology, by William R Jones, ed Cornel West and Eddie Glaube (Westminster John Knox Press).
http://www.jeffhead.com/blacklibtheology.htm

From the New York Times, April 28, 2008
Reverend Wright at the National Press Club
"In the late 1960s, when Dr. James Cone's powerful books burst onto the scene, the term 'black liberation theology' began to be used. I do not in any way disagree with Dr. Cone, nor do I in any way diminish the inimitable and incomparable contributions that he has made and that he continues to make to the field of theology. Jim, incidentally, is a personal friend of mine."
