I see you are from South Carolina. Let’s compare where our states were at critical points in history during the 20th century. Here are some numbers to mull over the next time you blame the evil yankees for “socialism”.

1916 ELECTION (after revoluntionary Woodrow Wilson enacted the income tax and all that fun socialist stuff)
ILLINOIS - Wilson/Marshall Democrat 43.34%
SOUTH CAROLINA - Wilson/Marshall Democrat 96.71% (Republican Hughes got 2.62%)

1940 ELECTION (after FDR just spent eight years growing the federal government into a massive nanny state)
ILLINOIS - Roosevelt/Wallace Democrat 50.97% (wins by 1% thanks to dummies in Chicago)
SOUTH CAROLINA - Roosevelt/Wallace Democrat 95.63% (Wallace was such a hard core marxist he OPENLY supported communist nations!)

1968 ELECTION (Dems have just spent the last decade turning America into radical anarcist druggie hippie parade) Nixon runs on “law and order” to restore America from chaos
ILLINOIS - Nixon/Agnew Republican 47.08%
SOUTH CAROLINA - Nixon/Agnew Republican 38.09%

1980 election (after Jimmy Carter spent four years proving he was the worst President in history)
ILLINOIS - Carter/Mondale Democrat 41.72% (Carter loses Illinois by nearly 10 point margin)
SOUTH CAROLINA - Carter/Mondale Democrat 48.04% (lost to Reagan by 1%)

Seems South Carolina voters were divided over whether Wilson, FDR and Carter were the second coming or the FIRST coming!

Single-handedly the stupidest comment I’ve read on FreeRepublic today.

Congrats.

(Eisenhowe) was born in Texas which means he has Southern blood and that's what counts.

Eisenhower's parents were both of a German-American background originally from Pennsylvania. They just were passing through to Texas on the way to their permanent home in Kansas. Eisenhower's family didn't have the benefit of the many decades of southern breeding and inbreeding that makes a true southron.

You should publish this ‘inbreeding’ thesis of yours, colonel.

Sounds totally original.

You could probably get some yankee gubmint money for your project...........

Considering that I’m the product of centuries of southern breeding and inbreeding, I guess I can have a little fun with my background. I did find out that my great, great, great grandfather married his first cousin. Their inbred son, my great, great, grandfather, volunteered in the Confederate army in the Civil War.

Can you guys please come up with some consistant rules about who’s a “yankee” and a “southerner”

A whole thread of it’s own. ;)

Are people just too dumb to realize that a federal republic that truly respects state powers is the only alternative to a massive, centralized national government?

Apparently so.

Nevertheless, when Ike moved to the midwest at age 2, but Obama moved to the midwest at age 24 (b. 1961, came to Chicago 1985), I think it's clear which one is more of a "transplant". I doubt many Illinosians can identify with attending Muslim schools in Indoneseia.

What I find interesting is all the southerners who whine constantly about the evil "yankee tranplants" ruining their way of life but insist no southerner ever moves north (apperntly "the great southern migration" talked about in history books is a figment of our imagination). I will gladly take back all our "yankees", if they will take back the southern transplants living here.

How about it? I sure am tired of Jesse Jackson (SC native), Bobby "black panther" Rush (GA native), Danny Davis (AK native), Barack Obama (HI native), telling us Illinoisans how they think things should be. We'll send 'em back to their home states, and in exchange we'll gladly take back all of evil yankees who retired to Florida and Arizona.

They say the reason why Republicans no longer win in Illinois that everyone who voted Republican here 20 years ago is now either in Florida, Arizona, or dead, and I believe it. "Liberal" yankees my butt.

I make the rules on these threads.

If you're 'from' Georgia, you're good.

If you're a carpetbagger...................

I'm down with that struggle.

Let's start with Palm Beach County Florida and all those millions of yankee assholes and work our way up.

"Liberal" yankees my butt.

The Reb bashers on these threads have to be proponents of centralized national government or risk having to admit that their beloved Messiah, disHonest Abe, was wrong and they would rather endure the chains of communism than admit that because of their dubious yankee 'pride', which, makes them pretty damn dumb.
