Democrat's al Qaeda comment sparks Republican ire (glad that AQ can ID Cheney's chief of staff)
CNN ^ | June 27, 2008 | Ed Henry

A Democratic lawmaker's comment that he was "glad" that a top aide to Vice President Dick Cheney could be identified by al Qaeda has sparked outrage among Republicans at the White House and on Capitol Hill.

During a contentious House hearing on harsh interrogation techniques for terror suspects Thursday, Rep. Bill Delahunt, D-Massachusetts, was pressing David Addington, the vice president's chief of staff, about meetings he attended while serving as Cheney's chief counsel.

Delahunt asked repeatedly whether the topic of waterboarding, a controversial interrogation technique that simulates drowning, ever came up.

Addington replied that he could not discuss that because "al Qaeda may watch C-SPAN."

"Right," Delahunt responded. "Well, I'm sure they are watching, and I'm glad they finally have the chance to see you, Mr. Addington."

"Yeah, I'm sure you're pleased," Addington shot back.

It sounds like maybe they have increased the flow of hallucinogenic drugs into the water in Massachusetts. What’s the matter with those idiots up there?

Demo-scum wishing for terrorists to kill a Republican former WH official......

Delahunt is trying to spin it away with a nonsensical version of what he ‘meant’ when it is obvious to anyone that he meant he was glad Al Qaeda would know what Addington looks like in order to target him. There is no other plausible reason for
Al Qaeda to care to ‘see’ his image.

Delahunt is a light weight idiot. Some have also suggested that Addington is mad as a hatter. Lucky us!

These punk Congressmen are full of themselves. It’s a shame their districts keep returning them to the House over and over again.

Hey, Newt! How’s that term limit thing working out for ya?

From REDSTATE.com today:

Damn us all and our party if we let this go.

Congressman Delahunt can be reached at 202-225-3111 and by fax at 202-225-5658
By The Directors

It is no secret that public discourse in this country has become very shrill. Blogs on the left regularly feature vulgar diatribes against the right. Some on the right do the same. Keith Olbermann tells the President to “shut the hell up” on his television program. The New York Times publicly reveals the name of a CIA agent who did the dirty work of interrogating captured Al Qaeda operatives. The left says, “So, the right did it to Valerie Plame,” treating as morally equivalent the disclosure of the spy no longer spying and the disclosure of one of the men Al Qaeda would love to behead.

While Congress has also descended into a more shrill style, until yesterday it had not crossed one line of civility that never should be crossed on either side.

David Addington is the Vice President’s Chief of Staff. Yesterday, he testified before Congress.

During the course of the hearing, Congressman and Obama Superdelegate William Delahunt (MA-10) asked Mr. Addington about water boarding. Mr. Addington responded that he would not go into details because Al Qaeda is probably watching.

Congressman Delahunt’s response was, “I’m glad they finally have a chance to see you.”

Mr. Delahunt now denies he meant what he said. But what he clearly said was “I’m glad they finally have a chance to see you.” Al Qaeda now knows the face of one of the men who relentlessly pursues its henchmen and deals with their interrogations. Mr. Addington volunteered for public service, not a death sentence with Congressional encouragement. Mr. Delahunt is both a vile liar and a cowardly lion willing to roar down at Mr. Addington while encouraging terrorists to do his dirty work in a war he has been ineffective at stopping.

The left, while attacking Charlie Black for stating the obvious — that a terrorist incident helps the GOP politically because they are seen as more competent in the national security arena — is defending this degradation of congressional discourse and vile swipe at Mr. Addington.

This discourse — a member of Congress glad Al Qaeda has a face it can pursue — is beneath the dignity of the Congress and beneath the dignity of civil discourse in this country.

If you do not call your Congressman today and demand the House of Representatives, at the very *least*, censure Congressman Delahunt, well damn us all. We have no right to carry on our fight.

The number is 202-224-3121 and Congressman Delahunt’s email address is william.delahunt@mail.house.gov.

And some intrepid reporter should ask Mr. Obama what he thinks of this. After all, Mr. Delahunt was one of Mr. Obama’s early supporters and is now an Obama superdelegate. Of course, you can ask Barack Obama yourself at (866) 675-2008.

When you call your Congressman, you should make sure he knows an apology from Mr. Delahunt will not suffice. Delahunt clearly is lying about and denying his statement. “I’m sorry” would just be more of the same.

"Domestic Enemies" (note both words capitalized), roger!!

I've taken "the oath" to "protect....from enemies, both foreign and domestic" three times; once when I enlisted, once when I accepted a commission, and once when I went on civil service. I have never gone through any process, nor do I believe a legitimate means exists, to relieve me of my responsibilities regarding said oath, so just how am I supposed to fulfill my sworn obligation??

I sure as hades have a list of clear, seditious, treasonous, liberal socialist dummycrap "domestic enemies", and I know where they are, but what am I supposed to do about it? The simplest answer might be an armed uprising, but that's largely illegal as well as logically undesirable, so the only thing left is the vote. Some say, however, if the vote REALLY meant anything, "they" would have outlawed it years ago.....

Anyone can file a lawsuit. Maybe a movement to sue these creeps would show more light on who they are. The lame stream media loves lawsuits and would cover them for sure.

I watched several hours of that when it was replayed last night and it was very disturbing. Here they took the time to subpoena Yoo and Addington - but then they trampled all over their answers. You call in these with the greatest expertise in the matter supposedly of interest and then you don’t let them give you complete answers in their testimony.

Jerald (Jabba the Hut) Nadler was chairing the hearing, and he badgered Yoo on the issue of lawyer client confidentiality - as if Yoo, who served as a deputy AG in 2001-2003 and thus had the DOJ as his “client” could simply waive the privilege for the DOJ. Any 2nd year law student knows that would be a major breach of ethics.

Yoo was hesitant and not combative, though he should have been. Addington was willing to give fully developed answers - but was not allowed to do so. But he took no $hit from the democrats. I appreciated that.

Interesting idea, at least for someone with significant resources at their disposal; perhaps one of the larger conservative legal foundations might be interested.

For the average middle-cleass individual, however, one would simply be inviting an onslaught of "clintonista-like" attacks, starting with the IRS and getting worse from there. After all, when they are wrong, the action they take is to attack their accusers on "stuff created out of whole cloth" (the politics of personal destruction).

So my PERSONAL options regarding meeting the obligations of "the oath" are extrememly limited; they would, however, by extremely effective if I could get past my conscience and my responsibilites to my family!!

i don’t think addington did it intentionally, but he could not have done any better if he had tried - he baited delahunt into a self righteous snit of anger and delahunt showed his true colors - and revealed exactly what he was thinking

same thing happened with maxine waters when she was so mad that she stuttered out the democrat dream - to take over the oil companies

we need to use this tactic more because it causes them to defend the indefensible

tgo (mark levin) baited delahunt into calling his show tonight (well he called and asked him to be on the show - but if you listen to yesterday’s show, baited seems to be the right word)

he bravely called in with about 3 minutes left in the show - and gave his lame excuse that he thought he said *i* instead of *they* - tgo said he would take him at his word

which means he is a much more forgiving man than i am - because i think delahunt’s excuse is an obvious lie

which would make delahunt a liar - someone needs to confront him with that and hold him responsible for being so angry that he wishes death on an American citizen serving in government

‘sorry’ is not good enough for me any longer - not that we got an apology
