Officials in the Louisiana Secretary of State's office say a recall petition has been filed for Governor Bobby Jindal, making him the fifth elected official to face a recall attempt since the state legislature voted itself a payraise earlier this month.
For a recall election to be called, the signatures of one-third of all registered voters in the state must be collected. That would be a total of 960,285 voters. Ryan Fournier of Jefferson submitted the recall petition.
Other lawmakers facing recall attempts include House Speaker Jim Tucker (R-Terrytown), Rep. Steve Pugh (R-Ponchatoula), Rep. Joseph Lopinto (R-Metairie) and Rep. Franklin Foil (R-Baton Rouge). Signatures of one-third of all registered voters in their respective districts are required to force a recall election.
Jindal has indicated he will not veto the payraise, fearing a damaged relationship with the legislature.
The last Louisiana Governor to face a recall attempt was Kathleen Blanco shortly after the 2005 hurricanes. That effort was aborted before signatures could be collected.

Gov. Bobby Jindal is the target of the latest recall petition filed in the wake of legislative pay raises, the secretary of state’s office reported this afternoon.
Jindal has consistently said he won’t veto the more than doubling of legislators’ base pay approved during the just-ended regular legislative session angering Louisiana residents. The pay jumps from $16,800 to $37,500 effective Tuesday, July 1.
Four legislators are already subject of petitions seeking recall petitions, including House Speaker Jim Tucker of Terrytown, and Reps. Franklin Foil of Baton Rouge, Stephen Pugh of Ponchatoula and Joe Lopinto of Metairie.
In Jindal’s case, it takes the signatures of one-third of the state’s voters to force a recall election. Recall organizers have 180 days to collect the valid signatures.

He screwed up big! Making deals (reaching across the aisle) to get his agenda through the La. Leg. No going back now.
Ummm...how many dems voted for this pay rise? And why are only pubbies getting petitioned for recall?
Perhaps Louisiana should adopt an amendment to the state constitution like the federal one has to prohibit pay raises from taking effect during the session it was approved in.
Good.
It may be more symbolism than reality given the difficulty in recalling people.
Go get him.
It will damn sure move the issue up to the national news and get him looked at a little more closely, other than reprinting press releases from his office.
I didn't see a single Democrat on that list. Doesn't mean there won't be one. But, it's suspicious at best.
The tradition in Louisiana has been to keep the members of the legislature poor so they'll accept bribes easier. Darned shame we have Freepers who appear to support such corruption.

Looks like you are being used by Democrat sympathizers. All the people on that list are Republican.
Because the Republicans are supposed to be the party of small government and fiscal responsibility?
Why should there be? Democrats love government spending of any kind.
Almost all of the dems voted for the raise. This is stupid. They wouldn’t get bothered enough to recall the real crooks and the most incompetent governor ever elected all of the years they were in office. Jindal simply stated that he wasn’t bailing out the legislature on this one.
That is becoming more and more clear everyday. Anybody who doesn’t think there is an agenda with all of this is “not paying attention”, a popular phrase on these threads. Jindal won’t be recalled and he shouldn’t be recalled. This is pure nonsense. What they are doing by all of this is torpedoing any chance this state had of being looked upon favorably and getting some help in here and they are undermining our best chance for progress in decades which I suspect is what they want.
