Don't you hate it when old Navy guys just can't get along? John McCain took a swipe at Jimmy Carter the other day in an interview, with the transcript getting posted over at the Las Vegas Sun earlier today. As the folks at CNN's Politicker point out, it's not just a gratuitous political shot, since McCain has been trying to tie Obama to Carter, generally considered by the right (and quite a few centrists) to have been an ineffectual president.
But the comments are a bit jarring. McCain was asked by interviewer Jon Ralston, a Nevada political observer and blogger, about Yucca Mountain and nuclear waste and Carter's decision to end reprocessing, which McCain held up as a possible solution to the nuke waste problem.
"Q: You know why he did that then? "A: Yes, because Carter was a lousy president .... This is the same guy who kissed Brezhnev ...."

Who says that McCain doesn’t know his head from his...
“Carter was a lousy president”.....
This is a good start!....Next I want to hear that
Obama would make a lousy president and why!
they may both be Navy guys, but an aviator vs a sub guy??? And they think they’ll get along?
OKAY!!!
this is where I send a check to McCain! ha!
Gack!....what did he/she do?...fly into a brick wall?
Say it again and say it often. And then start “Obama wants to serve Carter’s second term” meme....
EWWWW
He has moments of lucidity.
McCain needs to say in his best Spanish accent: “Socialists?..We don’t need no stinkin socialists!”
As a young boy, Carter had a dog named Bozo.
These days, a big part of his day is spent reminding people that his name is Jimmy, not Bozo.
A few more well spoken truths by John might just get me to change my tag line... though I am not deluded enough to think that John would suddenly embrace conservatives just to earn my approval.
Well, John McCain, that’s at least one thing we can both agree on!
There is so much wrong with that picture that I just can’t say. Linda Carter was a knockout.
That McCain knows Carter made a great PB&J but not a great POTUS is noteworthy, though.
Carter deserves every nasty thing said about him.
I just read an article that tonight Carter will be meeting with 250 river paddlers in drought-ravaged Georgia to blow his own horn about how he was able to stop a dam project when he was governor of GA. I bet a lot of Georgians are so glad that they lost a much-needed reservoir so that a handful of folks have a long river to paddle down.
I wish McCain would tell us something we DON’T already know.
Really?
That's really going out on a limb politically by walking the edge of truth isn't it?. /S
ROTF!
Sadly enough, if one listens to the carter speeches on conservation and threatening energy rationing while POTUS back in the '70's one wonders if Jimma' Carter didn't do a Michael Jackson in reverse and become Obama later in life after listening to Obama political speak. ; )
The only thing worse for America than the carter presidency is the carter ex-presidency. He is an idiot.
Carlin was in awe of John McCain’s direct speech ability.
Carter was the worst president ever! Go get him McCain! Wee Hoo! I love it!
Oh, and make sure you tie carter around obama’s neck!
Finally something that I’m in 100% agreement with John McCain on. Pigs flew today!
Oh, and make sure you tie carter around obamas neck!
Especially with the energy situation and Iran threatening. It has the potential to be 1979 all over again if Obama is president.
Let's give credit where credit is due here; Carter's obvious incompetence made it easy for Reagan to ascend.
Somebody should have told Carter that just because the boat went underwater, he didn't have to hold his breath the whole time.
McCain took an oath to protect and defend the Constitution.
Why is John McCain not guilty of treason?
My Uncle is a diesel boat sub guy, my stepdad a naval aviator of the same period. Step dad gave Uncle a picture of an aircraft carrier, and uncle painted cross hairs on it and said "now it looks right".
GOOD!!!! Now, let’s just hope that he doesn’t apologize.

'Lousy' kisser, too...
The correct lingo would be “an airdale vs. a bubblehead”.
Let’s hope. And if Carter says “I’m offended” - then McCain must say, “Good, be offended”. Maybe, just maybe, we can open this can of PC crapola and more will start speaking truth. Obama calls truth, ‘rumors’.
I know that you can’t be asking me to defend McCain...but, if you think he should be tried for treason drop a line to Husseins DOJ and maybe they can make time to do it(as they will be busy with war criminal investigations of the entire Bush cabinet).
Even a broken clock is right twice a day.
McCain is starting to sound like a “maverick” to me.
Many around here defend McCain because he would be better than Obama, the fact is that our republic is doomed no matter who wins. The supreme court has usurped the power of the legislature, the Constitution has been rendered meaningless. I am past the point of rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.
Jimmy is just good at one thing, building barns and small houses.
About time someone told the truth about commie Carter. George Bush 41 and 43 both let Carter get away with murder.
Carter was NEVER a sub guy.
Ever.
He was one of Hymnan Rickover little sycophantic butt-boys; he spent two years trailing along like a puppy after Rickover; NEVER staioned on a nuclear sub.
He left the Navy earlier than his obligation on a hardship discharge before the USS Nautilus (SSN-571) was ever commissioned.
Yes, Jimmah Cahtah was the worst excuse for a President in the Twentieth Century. The real question is why Obama loves Cahtah’s policies so much he intends to implement them once again.
Life sucks and sounds like you could suck all the life out of a room just by entering. I have no wish to converse with you beyond this post.
... may wish to find out what treason actually is before making such silly statements.
“Carter served on surface ships and diesel submarines in the Atlantic and Pacific fleets. As a junior officer, he completed qualification for command of a diesel submarine.” While Wikipedia is not the best source,it shows he DID serve on subs, maybe not nuclear ones, but I didnt say that. “
I also confirmed this with the USN history site. He served aboard 2 subs, and qualified for sub command.
