Delahunt’s Zinger
American Spectator ^ | June 28, 2008 | The Prowler

Posted on 06/28/2008 5:31:33 AM PDT by Laverne

It would be generous to say we were stunned," says a Republican House Judiciary Member, describing his response when Congressman and Obama Superdelegate William Delahunt (MA-10) yesterday asked the vice president's chief of staff David Addington about water boarding of terrorists. Addington declined to comment, citing President Bush's refusal to discuss techniques used to attain vital intelligence, and added that another reason not to respond was that Al Qaeda is probably watching.

Congressman Delahunt's response: "I'm glad they finally have a chance to see you." (Emphasis added.)

But the House Republican and Judiciary member was not so stunned to notice that no Republican rose to defend Addington, or to call out Delahunt for essentially inviting al Qaeda to impart physical harm to a senior member of the Bush Administration. "It was shameful that we didn't do anything. I can't explain it," says the GOP member.

Just as shameful, according to a Democrat Judiciary staffer: Delahunt was congratulated for "zinging" Addington after the hearing. "Zinging was the term used. These guys are tired of the same old lines and excuses. I mean how many times can they pull out that old bogeyman of al Qaeda. The American people aren't buying it anymore, and certainly Delahunt doesn't."

Delahunt claims he didn't mean what he said. But enough other Democrats on Capitol Hill clearly understood what he had done. Sen. Charles Schumer, who bunks down with Delahunt when they are in Washington, D.C., made sure his schedule was such that he wouldn't be in contact with Delahunt for several more days, according to a Senate leadership aide. "We don't want any part of that guy right now. We expect he's going to be in the middle of something pretty ugly, pretty quickly."

Some political consultants who watched the Judiciary Committee hearing say that Republicans should be capitalizing on Delahunt's and Democrats' overplaying their Addington strategy. For example, Democrats during the hearing never once inquired whether any of the interrogation techniques used against terrorists had produced important intelligence for use against the enemy.

"You have to understand, guys like Delahunt, really all of the Democrats here, don't care about winning the war against the terrorists, or keeping us safe. They might have cared after 9/11, but now they are ruled by the radical left. All they care about now is putting the Americans who put in place the policies that have kept us safe for seven years on trial. The terrorists just don't matter to this crowd," says a former Department of Justice lawyer. "And if the American people and Republicans understood this, the sooner we'd be seeing a different election."

This is finally getting some coverage. I needs a LOT more. Delahunt should be censured at a minimum. I'm waiting for a formal response from the VPs office; I hope I don't have to wait too long. His comments were outrageous. And where were the republian's to come to Addington's defense during the exchange -- silent. That is shameful.

Delahunt was not elected by the people.
He lost the vote, but sought out a corrupt
Judge to overturn the election results for him.

Thinking of even newer interrogation techniques that could be used on Delahunt to find out why he thinks about AlQaida taking revenge on Republicans so much.

Dollars to doughnuts the puke is a member, or at least a "pledge".

The stupid, stupid Democrats who are chosing to run against the people of the United States this year really should be handed their heads on platters on election day.

"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious.
But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly.
But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself.
For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men.
He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist.
A murderer is less to be feared."

Who were the Pubbies on the committee who sat on their hands? They should be taken to task as much (or more) than Delahunt.

The candidate selection process for state and Federal offices, at least among the GOP where I live, is severely dysfunctional.

Most Republican Members of Congress are wealthy, come from wealth, go to the same schools, the same churches (if they go at all), belong to the same clubs, and marry the same women as their opposite numbers.

They don't fundamentally disagree (for the most part) with Democrats on the core values of liberalism.

They DO disagree, to some extent, on what measures are sensible or prudent to implement nondiscrimination and compassion, their ruling principles.

They are, to use Lawrence Auster's great term, "right-liberals".

So when exposed to communists like Delahunt (a communist is merely a left-liberal who has followed his values to their obvious conclusion), they shrink away from confrontation, lest they be accused (inevitably) of being Nazis.

It is very important that an opposition, however small, be elected to the House of Representatives that will act against the interests of liberalism (both varieties) whenever and wherever found. Perhaps there are 20-30 Members now who fill the bill.

I'm afraid, however, that to get them out of the GOP and into a new party, the GOP will have to collapse first, or be taken over from the grass roots.

From my understanding Representative King who had already objected to Delahunt getting to ask question, (affirmed by Chair Nadler) left the hearing.

After King left, Delahunt was given time belonging to another congressman, and Nadler allowed him to ask the questions.

BTW, Delahunt was not even on the committee, and had no right to ask any questions.

Dana Milbank: Another great moment in legislative history just occurred. Steve King (R-Iowa) objected to Bill Delahunt (D-Mass.) being allowed to ask questions because he’s not on the subcommittee. But now King is out of the room, and the chairman, Jerrold Nadler, has given the floor to Delahunt under “unanimous consent” because nobody is here to object.

I read somewhere that all Republicans had left the hearing, allowing Chairman Nadler to let Delahunt speak. He, Delahunt, is not a member of the committee and Repubs had objected to him participating.

Republicans should be demanding recourse and exposing this, as well as apologizing to Mr. Addison

How can this be credited? Are we actually to believe that men at the pinnacle of power in America, United States Representatives, the living embodiment of the establishment, men and women who have worked ceaselessly to claw their way into these positions of power, would now risk it all and stand aside as the enemies of their country tear apart the very apparatus which gives them power? How can we believe this? That is not to credit them with patriotism but merely to credit them with cynical self-interest.

The charge is really breathtaking. Could it be that something greater than even self-preservation animates their behavior? Why would they risk seeing themselves go down even with the ship of state? How can they so placidly contemplate an American Armageddon?

Sometime ago FrontPage Magazine offered an analysis Saul Alinsky and his blueprint for the destruction of America as laid down in Rules for Radicals. The authors there suggest that Barak Obama is an acolyte of Alinsky, indeed he dedicated years of his life to putting into practice Alinsky's methods. A reading of the article which appears here, http://www.frontpagemag.com/Articles/Read.aspx?GUID=D6E27ECE-9798-4F01-A378-3F1405F69704 uncannily parallels the biography and modus operandi of Barak Hussein Obama

The frightening part of all this is in connection with this context: Alinsky believes that America must be destroyed so that his vision can be put into place. Is that not and the likely consequence of what has been suggested in the first paragraph quoted above? In other words, the vision of these people on the left, even in Congress, is no less apocalyptic than the one outlined below which describes Alinsky.

Having painted a verbal portrait of a thoroughly corrupt and melancholy American society, Alinsky was now prepared to argue that wholesale change of great magnitude was in order. What was needed, he said, was a revolution in whose vanguard would be radicals committed to eliminating the “fundamental causes” of the nation’s problems,[22] and not content to merely deal with those problems’ “current manifestations”[23] or “end products.”[24] The goal of the radical, he explained, must be to bring about “the destruction of the roots of all fears, frustrations, and insecurity of man, whether they be material or spiritual”;[25] to purge the land of “the vast destructive forces which pervade the entire social scene”;[26] and to eliminate “those destructive forces from which issue wars,” forces such as “economic injustice, insecurity, unequal opportunities, prejudice, bigotry, imperialism, … and other nationalistic neuroses.”[27]

I'm coming to the belief that we are dealing with a psychic pathology. That means that logic has no effect on the state of mind of these revolutionaries. Incidentally, it also goes a long way to explaining a conundrum that has puzzled many posters here on Free Republic: why do so many Jewish liberals vote and behave in a manner inconsistent with the security of Israel?

It certainly means, if true, we are dealing with a very sinister threat. One that is even more dangerous because merely to raise the question will generate charges of racism and/or McCarthyism and immunize these revolutionaries. On the one hand, these revelations will be ignored to death by the mainstream media and, on the other hand, when mentioned, these charges will be dismissed as the ravings of racists or McCarthyites.

It is very difficult for normal people to understand a movement which operates under the rule, "Think of it always, speak of it never".

They've kept their eyes on the prize, all these years. They've never been this close, so close they can almost feel their man's hand touching the Bible next January, and speaking the lie, "I swear to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States of America".
