McCain courts Latino leaders

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- McCain appealed to Hispanic voters Saturday with a message against raising taxes and highlighting his patriotism alongside Latinos during the Vietnam War.

McCain told the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials it is a “terrible mistake to raise taxes during an economic downturn” and said increasing business and individual tax rates could hurt Latino businesses.

There was a similar AP story that got pulled, so here's another version from a source that shows a little less hostility toward a free press.

The McCainster goes on to say...

“We will not succeed in the Congress of the United States until we convince a majority of American people that we have border security,” McCain said. “But that does not have to be in an inhumane or cruel fashion.”

Perhaps a more ardent McCainiac can tell me why I should believe the guy. (But no worries if you can't. I still plan to get liquored up and vote for him.)

...I should add that the Al P story that got pulled mentioned that The Obamessiah is also wooing Hispanics.

I wish it did not seem so clear that convincing a majority of Americans we have secured the border was the goal rather than actually doing it . I know , “Vote McCain he is not Hussein “.

I will believe the border is sealed when I see it. Even then, if McLame and Congress think that is then a license for Shamnesty II, they have another think coming.

He behaves as a man who doesn’t want to win. I look for Conservatives to leave him hanging out to dry, and frankly, I can’t say as I blame them. He has squandered opportunity after opportunity and left Conservatives wilting on the vine more than once.

McCain: “I didn’t win on immigration reform, but I’ll go back at it. And I’m glad I did it.”

No, no, no... You're supposed to tell why I should believe him.

Why do we always go back to this? We will not win without hispanics. McCain has already said the border must be secured and the governers certify it is secure. I suppose he is hoping that will convince the majority. I don’t see anything nefarious in that though.

“We will not succeed in the Congress of the United States until we convince a majority of American people that we have border security,” McCain said.”

Oh, brother! “Until we CONVINCE a majority of the American people that we have border security.”

A big time Freudian slip, I’d say. What not actually have border security, Juan, rather than playing word games and hedging on every statement.

He has NO intention of overseeing any real border security.

RE: "Perhaps a more ardent McCainiac can tell me why I should believe the guy."

.. and while they're at it, how about one more favor, please?

Would some McCain supporter (avid supporter that is, we all intend to choose him over the Messiah -- Sorry, Holy One) explain why supporting a zillion people breaking U.S. immigration, perjury, and document fraud laws is something that Americans of Hispanic origin seek?

Is McCain, et al saying that Hispanics have no respect for our heritage as a Nation of Laws? They are all inveterate lawbreakers? Ain't that an insult?

I will believe that the border is sealed and we are actually enforcing the laws when about 25% or more of the population where I live leaves.

I’m not a strong suporter of the backstabbing creep but I would like to give you a reason to believe him; He has that shiny “R” after his name.

All 4 governors are open borders traitors. They would say that it is secure right now to get the shamnesty that they want for “The Race.”

I don't mind "them" being here. I'd just like to know who "they" really are. I couldn't see how McAmnesty1.0 did that. Nor can I see how Ver2.0 does it either.

Oh well, a couple o' shots of Cazadores and I'll be fine come election day.

I almost think that McCain is actually TRYING to lose.

In any case, I won't be voting for him.

Juan McLame is only concerned about the illegals. No to McPain and Osamabama. I’ll vote 3rd party or write in a conservative for prez. I will probably vote for the other Pubbies for other offices, even though the’ll probably lose up to 70 seats in the house and 10+ in the senate.

The unfortunate reality is that a vote for a 3rd party or a write in is a vote for Jughead. Just do what I’m doing. Get wasted and vote for McCain. You’ll hate yourself in the morning, but it’s better over the long run.

Phoney pandering at its finest. The states that have the greatest number of Hispanics that can legally vote are BLUE. Can McCain win CA? not no, but hell no. New Mexico, NO AGAIN.

What about Texas and AZ, yeah right BO is going to win in those states, NOT A CHANCE....will it be the Hispanic vote that decides this NO WAY...

State by state is how this election will pay out..

I've carefully considered your post over an adult beverage or two. The thing about the McCain open-borders pandering is that it may well cut into traditionally Democrat numbers in the blue states. The thing of it is that they really aren't blue states or even blue counties; they're blue cities.

The urban, Latino population is McCain's target and this strategy might work. You see, in these blue, urban areas, Black and Latinos are competing for political power. In places like L.A., Latinos are displacing Blacks in patronage jobs, for example. For years and years we had a Black mayor elected in large part because he had a strong base of ethnic support. Now we have a Latino mayor who's larger base of ethnic support helped him beat out James Hahn. (The Hahns, though White, were very popular in the Black community thanks to his father.) That mayoral election was a show-down between the Blacks and Latinos for political power. A lot of Latinos are now looking at a Black(ish) Presidential candidate and wondering if he's the best thing for their political fortunes.

Enter McAmnesty.

McCain has been targeting urban Latinos for years now. They really do like the guy; more than we do. They like his talk about letting their families come up here without fear of arrest. He really could peel enough votes away to turn those blue urban centers red. Red cities mean Red counties. Red counties mean red states. It! Could! Work! (To quote Mel Brooks.) This is why I didn't want the guy as our candidate. I'm not worried that he'll lose. I'm worried about how he'll win. I don't want a Frankenstein campaign that leaves us pandering to the open borders crowd.
