More than 100 injured in South Korea beef protests

Posted: 29 June 2008 1306 hrs

SEOUL: South Korean police clashed violently with protesters opposing US beef imports here on Sunday, leaving more than 100 people injured, officials and witnesses said.

Police fired water cannon and wielded batons to try to control protesters, who hit back with poles and steel pipes, smashing police bus windows and spraying street fire hoses.

With rocks also hurled through the air, many of the injured suffered head wounds and were taken to hospitals in ambulances, according to witnesses on the scene

The protest is getting smaller but more hardcore leftwing elements are joining.

These days it is completely dominated by militant lefwing organization. There is no longer ordinary citizens just protesting beef import issue.

In an ominous turn, on Internet, calls are coming out to gather 386 generation, the ideologically hardened generation of mass protest. They want to rally around the banner of Chondaehyop and Hanchongryon, the two militant and violent student organiztions.

The slogan of "anti-caplitalism" also popped up during this weekend. The left wants to have violent showdown this week.

Local news report says that foreign media from U.S.(CNN) and Japan(NHK) dispatched sizable contigent to S. Korea expecting big events.

This is the sign that the left would not go down quietly just because they lost big in the last election. Neither does Kim Jong-il who is also doing his part to incite violence behind the scene.

Their objective appears to be (1) to show that the government is no longer in charge, or (2) failing that, to engineer bloody confrontation which will produce some victims(preferably dead, young female (or teenager)) and incite the people to explode, creating wholesale riot situation, in which they parade around the dead body for many days, getting maximun publicity.

Some leftie female loons are working on it now. They show up at the protest, pushing strollers. Sometimes they confront the police line, daring to strike here down. Nobody found out if there was an actual baby inside. However, it won't surprise me if there was. They use strollers(or suspected babies inside) as human shields. These people are getting truly nasty. The true hardcore left or shall we say commies?

Beef, now? This has been going on for about 50 years in South Korea, but they’re really reaching for causes now.

They learned well from the Bolshevik tactics of 1917 and onward, in many societies.

Makes one long for the good old days when the ROKs knew how to handle a communist insurgence within their borders. If I remember correctly, the communist organizations were infiltrated by ROK intelligence operatives, communist ring leaders were identified, and then ROK paratroopers were dropped into the city in the middle of the night to arrest them. These treasonous communist bast**** were then taken to the city morgue where they were shot and their bodies “disappeared” in the incinerator. End of problem.

Things were so simple back before we became too civilized to do what is necessary to survive, now weren't they?

These protesters are POed about a lot more than US beef imports.

Maybe they’d like to immigrate to the North since they find the US created South such a burden to their psyches.

Actually, if the current government truly loses control, you may not completely rule out the possibility of ROK military intervening.

At this point, I don't think it would go that far.

No, chances are that they would rather emigrate to U.S. and join militant wing of Rat Party, and supporting N. Korean regime from LA. It sounds ludicrous, but that is the most likely scenario. They will make perfect Obamanoids:-)

It is not about beer or car anymore. It is about bringing down the current government, which most here does not want.
A great majority of local folks wants wholesale destabilization.

These days it is completely dominated by militant lefwing organization. There is no longer ordinary citizens just protesting beef import issue.

Although this issue is dominated by the left, I see good reason to maintain local food production capability as a way of offsetting political risks and as a form of disaster preparation. IMO farms are a place for an urban people to find food and shelter should their city become a target. Maintaining the infrastructure so that they could operate as such would be a good business.

The hardcore Left is learning from the Palestinians to hide behind their own children while confronting "the man." If one or two gets killed in the confrontation, so much the better for the "cause." Obscene.

Easy fix - they don't want US beef - don't eat it.

With the recent decision by the Robed Rouges re: Habeas Corpus, this type of tactic may once again become SOP.

I followed the story from the beginning, and I was baffled by the "candlelight vigils" to protest US beef. Just don't buy it, already. I figured it was an Asian/West disconnect. Now I understand better--it's like the crazy left was behaving in 2000 trying to steal the election. A pretext to destabilize the new government.

Remember when the Japanese would not allow US beef to be sold in Japan becuase of the uniquely different digestive systems of the Japanese?

Well, I wish the protest/riot were just about that issue. However, sad to say, it is not.

Actually, I am all for setting aside certain quota of agricultural production for domestic suppliers for national security reason. Also have some reserve farm land so that if things go south, we can increase production.

We don't need d*mn too many golf courses in S. Korea to survive. Much of it used to be farm land.

I'm in the process of writing a book on the topic.
