An employee of a Virginia Beach pizza restaurant shot and killed a masked robber who had come in the back of the shop to rob it Saturday night, police said.

The shooting happened about 10:08 p.m. at Dominick's Pizza & Pasta, in the Timberlake Shopping Center in the 4200 block of Holland Road.

In addition to the aforementioned avoided costs (savings to the Commonwealth and it’s citizens) you should add the probability that he (the robber) would have killed an employee or customer and then received the death penalty, followed by a lengthy period during which a white shoe D.C. firm would fund, pro bono, an endless appeals campaign (a la Kitty Behan). The agony of such a circus is incalculable, thus the avoided costs are nearly infinite!
