LAREDO Day after day, Mexican trucks line up as far as the eye can see for entry to the U.S. at the World Trade Bridge, carrying everything from raw tomatoes, broccoli and fresh basil to frozen seafood. They also bring in salmonella, listeria, restricted pesticides and other food poisons.
Customs and Border Protection officers take less than a minute per truck to determine which products enter the U.S. and find their way into grocery stores and restaurants across North Texas

That lady looks like she needs a good meal....!
I have eaten in the nice restaurants in Mexico a hundred times with no sickness so they must know where the safety lies.
When down there, there are lists of food items that a tourist cannot bring across the border. Strangely, an avocado would have to have the seed removed!! [?]
Anyway, I hear that tomatos are not the real cause of the latest salmonella scare and they don’t know what caused it.
.
A bit scary when the FDA does not know what caused that outbreak
If it were a massive, massive outbreak I would worry. Otherwise I don’t think about it much. Have eaten out and had tomatos and didn’t worry.

Still waiting for tomatos here -
Any blooms yet? Have had some really great ones here, not all that large but very good.
Put netting over them to keep the Cardinals from pecking on them. Then the butterflies couldn’t get to them to pollinate and they’ve slowed down.
Don’t know if there are many honey bees around.
.
A few blooms - plenty of rain and growth
Tall round square pattern wire on some - stakes on the others
I’ve seen honey bees here
One got inside as I opened the front door today!
Booberry pancakes with syrup and honey may have attracted the honey bee -
Not here, we grow our own. Its quite easy a long as you get at least 70-80% sunshine, even on a patio, deck or drive. You must be much more aware of the soil temp in such a case. You still have time to plant quick growing varieties like cherry tomatoes. Check out. . .

The two things $$$ can’t buy are tru luv and home grown tomatoes.

Lol, they certainly attract you!
I just watered my plants, came into the house and it started pouring rain! TYPICAL!
I need to go check on my tomato plants
No rain so far today - I just watered them
Good, gotta keep them alive, lol.

As of last week, authorities were examining the various transport and warehouse venues.
FNC today:

Waiting to cross the border

Guess the Mexicans aren’t using refrigerated trucks?
Plus, they probably don’t clean the warehouses, etc well enough. Have no idea how they are stored for transportation.
We’ll find out, sooner or later.

Strange we are not ever getting bad food shipped down from Canada.....
