Three teens were arrested and charged with riot and petit larceny after they were among a group who ransacked a 7-Eleven in Uniondale, smashing a plate-glass window, throwing some store goods on the floor and stealing other merchandise, police said.

Cyborg, it’s my 7-11, isn’t it?
The man who runs this store is the nicest guy. That neighborhood is NOT what it used to be.
I was married in the church across the street for Pete’s sake.
Good to see they were charged as adults, hope they get more than a slap on the wrist.
Full restitution.
Oh, and keep making those delicious taquitos my brother.
Actually, this happened about 10 years ago at the 7-11 in Linden, NJ, near where my aunt lives. About 15 kids come in mid-afternoon and proceed to take everything in sight. The one manager on staff couldn’t do anything, and the kids stripped the store within 5 minutes.
Yeah, what’d the writeup say? 1:22 pm?
Bunch of thugs.
Late Juneteenth festivities?
It’s called swarming, I believe.
Late?
The incident happened June 10th.
The arrests came eight days later.
Oops. I only watched the video.
One wonders: these young people must take responsibility for their actions, but the blame should also shared by the parents and the community that they are raised in. Why are these fits of wilding are so prevalent among them? Why are they so angry against the world?/Just Asking - seoul62.......
Uniondale has become the gang capital of Nassau County, even more so than Hempstead.
This particular 7-11 is basically wedged between them.
Q: What does a Franklin Square resident call the bearded lady at a circus?
A: Mom.
;-)
I've always spelled it "petit."

Its got nothing to do with genetics but with blatant disrespect for the law.
The sixty or so white kids at my high school who jumped up and looted a soda truck parked outside the school cafeteria in April,1964 had no genetic predisposition to loot either. They took advantage of a situation. No home training.
Just like the kids you saw on the video.
If only they celebrated Kwanzaa in all of their families maybe this wouldn’t have happened. Its the 7-11âs fault for not having wider aisles.
I don’t think it is anger against the world, they have become feral because the parents don’t tell them no or teach them manners or respect.
I have 3 boys, two are teenagers, if they ever did something like this they know they’d be safer in jail than home with me and their Dad.
You know, it's getting to where I'm going to have to start taking blood pressure meds to read FR. Wtf to you mean by 'genetic predisposition'? That they're black and therefore predisposed to crime? Like the black members of FR? Like the Hispanic members of FR? Like the people of certain genetic predispositions that are serving in Iraq right now?
These incidents are not new and not limited to people of color or whatever genetics you had in mind. Lack of parenting, lack of morals, lack of a community that cares all have more to do with this behavior than genetics.
Sometimes I wonder where some of you keep your sheets when you aren't FReeping.
Not to far from where my Mother lives, a hard-working immigrant chinese youth was delivering chinese food for his family’s store. He was robbed and beaten to death for forty dollars worth of fast food by these misunderstood mutants. The shake your head moment is when their family pleads on their behalf in court, stating they are good kids, just misunderstood. Sir and Madam, I beg to differ - what alternate universe are you referring to? You raised mutants, monsters - what on God’s beautiful planet, did you teach them: any morals, any right versus wrong or was it I received the short end in life by whitey and everyone else and I am taking out on them. The sad thing is there is a small sector of minority youths of good parents that do right in this world and it is a dam shame that these mutants ruin for them./Just Asking - seoul62........
Yes, I know from what you speak of: my late Father was ex-Army and my Mother Japanese = strict household./Just Asking - seoul62......
I was a Police Office for 30+ years and I can attest to the fact that evil comes in all colors and shades.
You don’t know this community very well then. I actually used to live there and this is unusual.
I’m actually surprised this happened. It hasn’t happened in years. Last time I heard this happened was over ten years ago. This is very unusual. The guys are very cool and it’s a popular spot.
Oh, and the Monterey Jack Chicken Taquitos were fabulous (served piping hot, garnished with a Duo of Twix and complemented nicely with a cold American lager).
Just saw the video. That’s TERRIBLE. I don’t know where these kids are from BUT by the time this is all over I think there will be more than three arrested. I’ve noticed a lot more kids living here in Uniondale and Hempstead BUT they’re really from the city.
I didn’t even notice any damage! It was like business as usual! I just love those guys.
You lived in Uniondale? Has it really changed? In reference to the Queens area that I grew up in, it definitely has changed./Just Asking - seoul62........
It goes through cycles like other nabes in NY. I like it. Some people don’t. Now I live in the country and it’s too much traffic and houses with manicured lawns for me.
Well, my Liberal Husband’s Idea of the next house phase in future = retirement is the Upper West Side of Manhattan. I mentioned down South, where your dollar stretches farther and you can buy a real house not a cubby hole./Just Asking - seoul62......
I just spent a week on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. One week was enough. Even with bringing in food, I was still spending about ten dollars a day on food and the like. You are right about the South too. Money stays longer in your hand!
I understand where you are coming from. In the early stages of being married we lived in the upper east side, observations: Fresh Direct was very popular, Stores were outrageously overpriced, did anyone ever cook - restaurants were always full, did anyone ever brew a cup of coffee at home, because Starbucks was always full./Just Asking - seoul62......
There are lots of little shops that I liked such as The Green Bean. Lots of Fresh Direct trucks. The food was half way decent at Memorial Sloan Kettering which I attribute to the area. I don’t think anyone brews coffee. I broke my Starbucks habit when I moved to the country. They knew me by first name at the Starbucks in Uniondale. OH YES...and it seems as if no one washes clothes either. Life is easier and more sustainable and environmental in the country.
I need to be surrounded by people. The Princeton area is too low density for me as it is.
As much as you may complain about costs in NYC, remember that NYC has neighborhood places that are fairly reasonable for food and the quality is top notch. When I spent two years in Seattle, your choices were in effect limited to expensive restaurants of middling quality, and fast food.
You could swing by Princeton-Plainview Teaching Hospital and hang with Dr. House.
LOL! Princeton Hospital actually has a very popular Mexican Restaurant (Tortugas) a block away where over half the clientele is wearing scrubs. I've always been tempted to ask the manager if Dr. House was in today.
I think they hide the hospital in the student union...
You can find some gems on the UES. The main benefit of NYC is access to the things I like without having to do it myself or look for it on the Internet.
Noted, it is the trade off living in New York: higher costs all around, conveinence but at a price. The housing costs are a killer here in New York, we are searching now and homes in Queens area where I reside: Three to Four Hundred Thousand Range buys you basically a small to medium handy man special and there is no guarantee of a parking spot!!!!! Need input from Freepers all around the United States, what will homes in the Three Hundred Thousand to Four Hundred Thousand buy you? This House searching is getting very depressing, because the really affordable ones in our price range are in blighted areas with the worst school districts./Just Asking - seoul62........
$300-$400 will buy you a house and acres of land where I live. The town is sleepy with a super GINORMOUS Walmart.
Animals.
Yo, Cyborg, how are you? Long time no see!
$350K will buy you a brand new three bedroom house, two story on half an acre in Clarksville, TN. Same house would cost $800K+ here in the Princeton area. Clarksville has few amenities, however, and the schools are atrocious (as they are throughout the south), which is why I would still recomend a private school WHEREVER you live. Basically, the economy in Clarksville is centered on Fort Campbell and the Trane/Ingersoll Rand plant. Very family oriented place, low cost of living, but NOT for me.
Up to date hard facts: Three to Four Hundred Thousand price range in this specific area of Queens, where we want to live, right now: buys you a two bedroom Handyman special with a small backyard, no driveway. Middle, five hundred thousand will buy you an attached all brick, nice two bedroom, no acres of land, full finished basement and a shared community drvieway. I say Pennslyvania or the South, my Husband does not want to take a pay cut. He has undergraduate and graduate degress in civil engineering from an excellent school and an MBA, could he really earn and live well outside of New York? I need the cold hard facts and so I can disuss with him, thank you all./Just Asking - seoul62..........
I’m okay...much better actually now that my mom is out of the hospital!
There are a lot of sintering and powdered metal places where I live. The guys with the degrees run the plants and make a lot of money by rural PA standards. Depends on what level of quality of life you’d be comfortable with. If you are happy shopping at a chain grocery store with not much diversity of choices then small town living will be fine. People leave and thrive outside of NY all the time. It just takes a little getting used to. Took me about two years to get used to the lack of social life that doesn’t involve booze!
Good news about your mom. Love your tag line. I find the nagging decreases the more mileage I put between me and my mother. On the other hand, my son can’t seem to escape. : )
